[SOUND OF
THE CITY]
"The
sound of the city, the sounds that are
heard, in San Francisco..." These words begin
the most memorable radio station jingle of all
times — KSFO's signature "Sound Of The City"
theme song. Hear it — and the story behind its
creation — in a special extended presentation.

[voices out of

In the early
1970s, John Schneider began the epic task
of chronicling the history of radio in the San
Francisco Bay Area. The museum is proud to
announce that Mr. Schneider has allowed us to
present this monumental account of the Bay Area
radio's colorful origins and development.

[JAMES GABBERT]
He's
not just a local legend,
he's one of the great pioneers of broadcasting's
modern era. From humble beginnings as co-founder
of KPEN, which he helped grown into powerhouse
K-101, James Gabbert has been station
owner (KIOI, KIQI, KOFY AM-FM-TV and KDIA),
engineer, innovator and announcer — and those
are just a few of the many hats he's worn over
the years. A member of the first class inducted
into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame, we
salute him on the 50th Anniversary of KPEN's
launch.
