Alas, poor Doyle! We never got to know him well. Little known fact: Do you know in nine eps the boy never, ever smiled? Must have known he was doomed to an early grave.
They Can't Take That Away From Me (which, oddly, did not win the "Longest Title of a Vid on the
AW 2000 Reel" -- that went to Perri's I'm Not Supposed To Love You Anymore) was my "practice" vid, to
see if I could actually pull off this vidding thing. I learned a lot about vidding this way.
In the end, my little ode to Doyle gave me what I wanted: the confidence and knowledge to play with this new concept and see if I could make it fly.
I had spent the previous few weeks struggling with Crais from Farscape and trying to get give me a plot or a story or a through-line or anything that I could use for a vid.
With about two weeks to go before handing-in day to get the vids to MediaWest on time, I was getting desperate. I had decided about a week before that that I wanted to do a Kate vid, and had already seized on the song I wanted to do it too: Ice, off of Fumbling Towards Ecstacy.
Kate wasn't exactly any easier than Crais. In fact, Dianne watched the rough cut of the vid, and made me tear it down and start again. But the result was, in less than two weeks, I had a vid that held together with plot, story and character. I have one regret about one shot (moved it to accomodate something else, and wished I'd moved it back). But aside from that, I am enormously pleased with this vid.
