Dolly Parton ramps up 'Barbie' tour
Dolly Parton has added several more dates to the North American leg of her "Backwoods Barbie World Tour."
The outing is set to kick off Oct. 17 with a run of shows around Florida and stick close to the East Coast before heading into Canada. Parton will wrap the trek in mid-November with newly announced shows in Milwaukee and Green Bay, WI. Other cities added to the schedule since last check are Raleigh, NC; Winnipeg; Manitoba; and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. An updated itinerary is listed below.
This Friday (9/19), Parton is scheduled to make her national TV debut to promote her latest album, "Backwoods Barbie." She'll sing her new single, "Shinola," on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and then appear on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Monday (9/22).
A live-performance video for "Shinola" was filmed during Parton's recently completed European tour, which turned out to be her most successful Euro trek to date, according to a press release. The video was shot in front of a sold-out audience of 18,000 at London's O2 Arena.
"Backwoods Barbie" is billed as Parton's first mainstream country album in 17 years. The set surfaced in February and debuted at No. 17 on The Billboard 200 and No. 2 on the Top Country Albums chart, making it the country legend's highest debut ever. The first two singles, "Better Get To Livin'" and "Jesus & Gravity," have made waves on the Hot Country Songs chart.
The album's title track will be featured in the upcoming musical "9 to 5," which is based on the 1980 film that co-starred Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Parton wrote all the music and lyrics for the production, which premieres Sept. 20 at Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theatre. The musical is scheduled to hit Broadway next April.
