Commemorating the 4th Anniversary of the Invasion of Iraq

The Holy See and our bishops’ Conference expressed grave moral concerns about military intervention in Iraq and the unpredictable and uncontrollable negative consequences of invasion and occupation.
January 12, 2007 Bishop Skylstad, President USCCB

On Saturday, March 17 there will be demonstrations all around the country expressing concern for both our soldiers as well as the people of Iraq. We, in southeastern Wisconsin, are invited to “Stand For Peace” on Saturday, March 17th at noon. Gather in Milwaukee at the Sunburst at the eastern end of Wisconsin Avenue for a brief assembly followed by a walk down Wisconsin Avenue to the Federal Building where participants will deposit messages to our representatives in a “ballot box” that will be delivered on Monday. All along the way there will be displays showing the negative effects at home because of expenditures on the war.

Groups may wish to create “feeder marches” that might form in the vicinity of the Sunburst and walk together to the assembly area carrying an identifying banner. More information will be posted soon at the Peace Action Wisconsin Website.
