Sessions Set for Victims/Survivors of Clergy Sexual Abuse - Sept. 12, 2002

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee will hold two listening and support meetings for survivors who have been victims of clergy sexual abuse.

The first session will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22. A second session will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26. Both sessions are currently scheduled to be held in rooms at Milwaukee’s Midwest Express Center to make attendance easily accessible and confidential for survivors. Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan and Bishop Richard J. Sklba will attend both sessions.

"We are committed to meeting with and listening to victims and survivors of clergy sexual abuse," Dolan said. "It is important for their stories to be heard."

A group of victims/survivors, victim advocates, community representatives, members of the archdiocesan Project Benjamin community advisory board, and archdiocesan representatives, has been meeting in large and small groups since mid-May to plan these sessions. Lina Juarbe of The Healing Center at Milwaukee's Aurora Sinai Medical Center has facilitated the efforts of the planning group. This group will continue to meet to plan the final format for the sessions.
