JEOPARDY! CLOSES GENDER GAP

America's Favorite Quiz Show® Features More Female Contestants Than Ever Before

(CULVER CITY, CA) November 28, 2007 - Jeopardy! viewers this season may have noticed a growing number of female participants on the show. Since September, 52% of Jeopardy! contestants have been women, more than ever before in the show's 24- year history.

Last season, Jeopardy! began conducting its contestant tryouts online, which allowed viewers the opportunity to take the qualifying test from their own computers. The online testing continues to be an enormous success, with over 200,000 participants representing all 50 states. Due to the nature of the expanded online database, more female contestants from backgrounds such as homemakers, teachers, writers, and grad students have all appeared on the quiz show.

"As a direct result of our online testing process, it's refreshing to see more women as contestants," said Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek. "We're seeing more players who may not have the time to travel long distance to our testing cities to qualify as potential candidates."

Stay tuned in the weeks ahead to see more of the country's smartest female (and male) contestants go head to head on America's Favorite Quiz Show®.

The next national online tests are scheduled for January 29, 30 and 31, 2008. For more information, eligibility and rules regarding the online test, click here.
