'Slim Jim' Baxter's skill quickly established him as an Ibrox idol after Rangers signed him in June 1960. An attacking left-half, he won three Scottish championships, three Scottish Cups and four league cups. His profile was enhanced by selection for FIFA's World XI against England at the Football Association's centenary in 1963. A leg fracture disrupted his career in December 1964 and on recovery he moved south with Sunderland and then Forest. Baxter's greatest moments were Scotland's Wembley triumphs against England, 2-1 in 1963 and 3-2 against the world champions in 1967.
Wolfgang Overath

Overath was one of the most admired members of West Germany's sides at the FIFA World Cups of 1966, 1970 and 1974. He started his club career at Siegburg but quickly moved to Köln, where he spent 15 seasons, and won one Bundesliga title. An old-style inside-left before moving to the centre of midfield, he scored 17 goals in 81 appearances for West Germany between 1963 and 1974. He was a FIFA World Cup runner-up in 1966, scored the goal against Uruguay which earned Germany third place in 1970, and ousted Günter Netzer to become his country's key midfield player as they won the competition in 1974, before retiring from international football. Overath continued his love affair with Köln when he was appointed club president in 2004.

The high point of Shevchenko's career came when he converted the decisive penalty which brought Milan a shoot-out victory against Juventus in the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League final. However, winning the Ballon d'Or in 2004 and helping Ukraine to qualify for their first ever FIFA World Cup finals in 2006 have been equally impressive achievements for the brilliant striker. He suffered penalty shoot-out disappointment in the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League final, missing the final kick as Milan lost to Liverpool FC. Shevchenko helped Dynamo claim five league titles before he moved to Italy, where he finished as the league's top scorer in his first season with 24 goals. His prolific scoring form has continued, racing to 150 goals for the club in a little over six seasons. However, he made a surprise move to Chelsea in the summer of 2006 but failed to settle and scored just nine league goals in two seasons before re-signing for Milan in August 2008.
