Bloodite Interview: MightyTwinkie

Real name : everyone just calls me J
Gender : Male
Date of Birth : January 2, 1981
Location : USA, close to the beach
Connection : 56K flex...runs at about 21K on a good day
Hardware : Cyrix 300, 8mb S3Virge card, 32 megs of ram...but hell...at least I got a nice 17inch monitor (that's the spirit! - Infern0)
In-Game Character and Color : Caleb, anything with a lot of yellow
Control Method : Mouse and keyboard, with completely customised keys
Date and time interviewed : April 25, about 10:00pm

01 What's your gaming nickname and is there any particular reason why you chose it?

MightyTwinkie. It started with Quake, I chose the full yellow outfit, but couldn't think of a name. I went under my real name for a while, but I didn't like that very much. I guess it was just everyone who chose black as their color and names like "Killer" or "Thrasher" that lead me to do something like this. I liked the name, so I kept it.
02 Do you use a custom character config and, if so, how is it setup?
Not sure, never bloodbathed before, due to my lame computer. (probably for the best... - Infern0)

Strength : 4
Resistance : 3
Speed : 4
Focus : 1

03 What weapons do you include in your arsenal?
Well I think I WOULD carry:

01 : knife
02 : flaregun
03 : assault rifle
04 : shotgun
05 : voodoo doll
06 : vulcan cannon
07 : howitzer
08 : sniper rifle
09 : tesla cannon
10 : napalm

04 Do you prefer bloodbath, standard teamplay or CTF?
Team play. I like the thought of having a few individuals to provide cover fire and help me out. (Yes it's a nice thought I suppose, shame it never works like that! :) - Infern0)
05 What maps are you best on?
Anything with normal gravity. If a level has messed up gravity, then I'm worse than usual.
06 Which weapon do you think induces the most lag?
In SP, probably the Mac-20s akimbo. The amount of smoke that they cough up just kills framerates after the first few shots
07 What is the funniest kill you've performed or received?
In Quake2, I had just warped in after somebody had cleaned out the room of power ups and was running down a pipe that lead from the room. Whoever it was had missed a grenade. With only the blaster to my arsenal, I figured the explosive power of the grenade would do some good, even without a launcher. Having seen the guy run down the pipe, I pulled the pin on the grenade and began to chase after him. Jumping out of the pipe, my grenade was ready to go off in my hand. Looking around, I couldn't see my target, so after yelling something rather loud, I spun and tossed the grenade away without looking. Miraculously, it hit the guy I had been chasing as he ran up a staircase. It would have been a difficult shot if I was trying, but I pulled it off perfectly on luck alone.
08 What's your standard way of carrying out a humiliation death?
I think the flaregun would be a good way to do it, and stand there and watch them before they burn.
09 What games do you play online apart from Blood 2?
None right now, including Blood2. I've tried several times, but can never manage to get anything to work. My internet connection isn't quite powerful enough to play a game online, and my computer barely strong enough to play a game OFFLINE. Problem is I USED to play games online quite often, and I've grown to miss it terribly. Used to play Quake, Quake2, Warcraft2, and Diablo. Been practicing Unreal botmatch on the family computer to keep the skills up a bit.
10 What is your all-time favourite weapon from any game?
The shotguns. Almost every game out there now has one of these. Perhaps the only game where this weapon is no fun is Quake. Other than that, this gun is just loads of fun. Sniper rifles are fun too.
11 What is your all-time favourite map from any game?
Can't say that I have one. Anything without a lot of thin ledges, lava, or 0 gravity, I like. Man do I ever hate zero gravity.
12 What do you think the future holds for Blood 2?
Thats REAL hard to say. With all the other blockbuster games that came out at about the same time, B2 didn't enjoy the comercial success most of us would have liked. For now, if the mods and fan activity remains constant, then it will not likely die for a while.
13 What tips do you have to share with your fellow bloodbathers?
Don't lose your cool with deathmatches. Keep things light and realize it's a game. When you start to hype yourself up, you tend to make more mistakes. At least I do. Don't get upset and such if you get blasted one time too many, getting hyped up and angry doesn't help you play better.
14 How can people contact you so they may try and damage your bloodbathing prowess?
As for my bloodbathing prowess, I really have none. My computer and internet are not quite powerful enough to play anything online, so I won't deathmatch anybody even if they ask real nice. I'm sorry, but I simply can't. Perhaps one day, when my dream computer becomes reality, I will accept the gauntlet and bloodbath. Until then, you can contact me from the Resurrection page at http://surf.to/b2r
15 What do you think about PlanetBlood and is there anything else you would like to see on it? (this is also the place where you can plug your sites)
I really like the new Cathedral-like look to it. The blue colors and stained glass windows give it a more "crypt" feel about it. Only wish the screen shots would change more often. (Good point, I'll try and get them changed more often - Infern0)
16 How did you happen to become part of the Resurrection team?
Probably luck. I was in an ICQ chat with several bloodites, when Dell came in. Dell wasn't on my list, so after the chat closed he added me to his list, then I added him to mine. When Dell made his "Infamous" post, the very first post about resurrection, I just happened to be online and we started ICQ chatting about it. I said that I would write letters to inform Planetblood and The Crypt about this project. After I said I would do that, Dell said "Ok, you'll be in charge of public relations." I have since begun helping out with different aspects of the mod, such as storyline.
17 How long have you been writing fiction of any kind and did you write any other stories about characters from other games?
Now theres a tough one. I truly began writing for fun at about the age 14 or so (before Doom was released). I had heard somebody tell me what the story of Doom was going to be, and I just thought that it would be such a terrifying experience that I had to write something like it. However, after the first paragraph, I said "This sucks" and deleted it from my HD, then going back to play Wolf3D the rest of the day. A few months later, after Doom came out, I tried writing again. After the first few paragraphs, I looked at it and said "What the hell was I thinking?" and erased it from my HD, going back to play Doom the rest of the day. For the next few years, I didn't write anything creatively, though my teachers said that my writing for class was very good, and I had a piece of work featured in the school's literary magazine every year since then. At about age 17, I got some of my guts back to write something again. I realized that part of my previous failures came from having characters devoid of any sort of personality. Creating the characters was a difficult thing for me, I couldn't take a few hours, make half a dozen people, then throw them into the book to wander through the pages without ever really knowing them. After much despair and anger, I finally realized that I had some RPG characters that my friends and I had been playing for several years now. These characters had been developed for about 2 years now, so I knew everything about them, and their personalities fit so perfectly together. I set out to write a novel about them, but after about 60 or so pages (and much acclaim from my friends who played the other characters that I featured) I found another book based on the same RPG that I was basing everything on, and was so simmilar to mine that I deleted my HD once again. After a minor wait, I came up with 2 more storylines based in the same RPG world. I took precautions this time, and based it on the offspring of the original characters, some 30 years after the original book I intended to write. By leaving the time frame of other published books, I didn't have to worry as much about my ideas turning up in other books. I had completed about 30 pages in one, and a long timeline and plot for the other, when somebody on the-chosen forum asked me if I had ever considered writing a book based on Blood. I thought about it for a while, and then thought it would be a good idea. Doom had a series of books, based on the exact time of the game, meaning, the game and book were pretty much alike. It was fun to say "hey I know where that is" for a while, but after the first book, it was not only tame, but weird too. I only finished to see if the main character got home, with a fat reward and the celebrity wife. Except for Duke3d, Blood was the only game that featured a character that was in adventures before, and would have logically had adventures we didn't know about. For example, after Doom and Doom2, doom guy would probably have gone insane or something. Caleb, however, has that 100 year space between adventures. I really can't think of basing a story on any other game besides Blood. What the future holds, I'm not at all sure, but writing is a lot more fun for me now.
18 What is the main thing about the Blood series that appeals to you the most?
Character, setting, feel. Everything about it seems cooler than any other game. Caleb has got to be the coolest and toughest character out there. The setting and feel are just better. Its hard to explain. The dark and gritty feel of it, instead of the full sci fi feel with starships and other planets.
Closing Comment : Thanks for that most enlightening interview J, maybe one day we'll all get our dream computers and play without the fear of having to upgrade anything, yes...I'm sure that'll happen - Infern0
