Including over three thousand works, chiefly acquired by Ernest Fenollosa and William Sturgis Bigelow, the collection is known for select ink paintings dating to the fifteenth century by artists associated with Zen monasteries, comprehensive holdings of Kano-school and Ukiyo-e painting, and the narrative handscrolls Minister Kibi’s Trip to China and The Burning of the Sanjô Palace.
