View works from the collection
Edward S. Morse (1830ƒ{1925), a zoologist by training, collected, classified, and catalogued over 5,000 ceramics during visits to Japan starting in 1877. Most information about the Morse collection on this website is taken from the catalogue he published in 1903. Morse's catalogue provides a valuable comprehensive overview of the subject, but not all of his attributions and datings are accepted by scholars today.
