materials: I and H hook; red heart soft baby

Waist=18 inches

waist to crotch = 8 ½ inches

3/23/05 1 correction made to ROW 1 LEG RIBBING - change made in blue. Thank you, Debbie, for bringing this to my attention.

4/4/05 correction made to LEG RIBBING - change made in blue. Added "repeat row 3 and 4 around, slip stitch seam together. Thank you, again, Debbie. I appreciate your help.

WAISTBAND RIBBING:

with H hook

Row 1: ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 4 chs. ch 1, turn (5 sts)

Row 2: working in back loops only, sc in next 5 sts. ch 1, turn(5 sts)

Row 3 – 60: Repeat row 2

Row 61: join to first row by slip stitch through back loop and free loops of beginning ch. Be careful not to twist waist band.

BODY from waist to top of legs:

change to I hook

Row 1: working in rounds now, ch 1 turn, sc in ends of rows around. Join in first sc. (60 sts total)

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first st), 1 dc in ea sc around, Join in top of ch 3. (60 sts total)

Row 3 thru 11: Ch 3, 1 dc in ea dc around. Join in top of ch 3. (60 sts total)

note: For larger pants, add more rows to the body

FIRST LEG:

Row 1: ch 3 (counts as first st), dc in next 29 dc's, join in top of ch 3. (30 sts total)

note: leave remaining dc's unworked…we'll use those later

Row 2 – 10: ch 3, dc in next 29 sts, join in top of ch 3.

Row 11: ch 3, decrease over next 2 dc around, dc in last dc, join in top of ch 3.

LEG RIBBING:

Change to H hook

Row 1: ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 3 chs. sl st in same space as chain, sl st in next st.

Row 2: Turn (do not ch) sk sl sts, sc in back loop only of next 4 sts. ch 1 turn

Row 3: sc in back loops only of next 4 sts, sl st in next 2 sts,

Row 4: turn, sc in back loop only of next 4 scs. Repeat row 3 and 4 around leg, sl st seam togeter. fasten off and weave in ends

SECOND LEG:

switch to I hook

Join yarn through both loops of first and last stitch of first leg, (working in unworked stitches)

Row 1: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join in top of ch 3.

Row 2 – 11: work same as rows 2-11 on first leg.

Now do ribbing same as first leg. Fasten off and weave in ends.

WAIST TIE:

Ch 150, sl st 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Fasten off. Tie know in each end close to ends and cut tail close to knot. Weave tie through waist under ribbing.

I just made a pair of these, except I substituted ruffles instead of the leg ribbings. They turned out so cute! Thank you for this pattern! :)

These are really cute. I made a pair to give away as a present or put in my Hope Chest, but what does this size fit? Like 6 mo? Thank you!

CAUTION: be very careful when going to all these neat crochet LINKS!! Many (if not all) contain SPYWARE!! I spent all morning on angelcrafts which is Lyn's Designs, and I ended up with 17 defferent pieces of SPYWARE! There is a FREE Spyware removal program called SPYBOT that will search out, find, and remove the NASTY SPY BUGS from your computer.
Spyware follows you everywhere you go and reports your information to the owners of the spyware. Your privacy is invaded! They can get any of your info they want! So do NOT use those cute little cursors, SMILEYs, etc. they are ALL SPYWARE.

re: drawstring baby pants...On waist tie: after Fasten off. ..
Tie know in each end close to ends
...?
CORA - it should be: Tie a KNOT in each end . . .
You have to use your thinking cap on nearly every pattern. I have noticed many people forget to check their patterns for spelling, punctuation and completeness.
Even a forgotten COMMA, can leave the instructions unclear. Typo errors are common, so look at your keyboard for surrounding letters and you will usually see the correct one.

Pardon me for asking the obvious..but why did you have to state not to wear them on your head? Have there been problems with this? Is it similar to the warning on coffee cups that product may be HOT? :)

But seriously...I've come back to your site over and over to get a pattern or two, and I've enjoyed reading the comments and stories. Keep up the good work.

I would like to make these for my son (0-3) months. Should I use a smaller hook size? If so, what do you recommend?

Thanks,

Thank you, debij40. I think you will need the drawstring to keep the pants up.

Hi - these are very cute. I was wondering if they would work just as well without the drawstring - or is it neccesary to prevent them from slipping.

Hi Terry, thank you. I don't have a pattern with the booties attached, but you could close up the legs by omitting the ribbing and doing rounds with decreases in them until the leg is closed.

Hi Steph, these fit a 3 month old if you follow the pattern as is, but you can make them to fit your child, just make the waist band long enough to fit around your baby, then add rows from waist to crotch to make it fit the way you want it and then start the legs. You should be able to customize this pretty easy. I'd love to know how it turns out.

Can you tell me what size these pants fit? I have a huge 3 month old, and plan to make them in wool for him to wear as a diaper cover.

Thanks!

Thank you for the hats pattern. I made my cousin hat because she has had cancer this winter so she need more than a scaft or tunben. She love it so she want it a spring to so I made the " X and O"for her.

Thanks for sharing this! It is a good idea to make them from wool and use them as a diaper soaker. Wool soakers can be pretty expensive. Now I just need to learn how to crochet! :P

You're welcome, Brenda. I'm glad you like the site. I'm afraid I can't help you with your other questions. I haven't designed any baby dresses and don't know how to enlarge them. Try to do a search on google for crochet baby dresses. I hope you find what you need.

Hi: I want to thank you for the website for the mary jane shoe pattern. Has anyone got any websites for little girls dresses to crochet? How do I make a dress pattern larger. I tried a larger hook but this does not seem to work. I know I need to add stitches but don't know how to go about it. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi: I have a question does anyone have a pattern that easy to do for Mary Jane Booties? I am crocheting a baby dress and would love to have and easy pattern for these booties. I have a couple of patterns but they never seem to come out right when I am doing the straps. Anything anyone could do to help would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks so much for the pattern! I whipped up a pair for my son, but he's a big baby, so I had to add extra rows for the crotch and length. I made them out of wool so it could be a pair of longies -a diaper soaker. I loved the pattern, I am going to have to make him a few more pairs. They are the only pants that don't fall under his feet when he crawls.
