2005 Global Marijuana March

Report from Portland

The weather was cooperative, and the march here in Portland headed through town almost on schedule.

It was a festive event, thanks to the musical stylings of the Jesters Roving Band. Their funky groove kept us moving at just the right pace. It was great to see folks from the THC Foundation, Voter Power, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP), KBOO and Oregon Green Free (OGF) work together to make this march so successful. Thank you to all who participated; we estimate between 200 and 250 people! Speakers after the march were Madeline Martinez with Oregon NORML, Paul Stanford from the THC Foundation, Don DuPay from LEAP, Paul Loney for Project Hemp and Melodie Silverwolf from KBOO.

The party continued at Billy Reed's with hors d'ouevres, door prizes and live music by Tim Payt and the rockin' blues of Bolt Upright. We appreciate the staff at Billy Reed's willingness to accomodate patients, and we hope to have future events there. We hope that you enjoyed this day of activism and community as much as we did. See you next year on the first Saturday in May at high noon for the 6th Annual Million Marijuana March!
