Dragon Scales Scarf
A narrow decorative scarf that wears well under a jacket collar,
as a simple neck adornment or a hatband.
Quick to knit using suggested yarn for two gifts!

Mary Hunt originally
designed and knitted this scarf in need of a quick gift
for a new bride and knitted it with two skeins of
merino. Two balls of
Jojoland Melody Superwash will make a lovely scarf.
Since then, she has
updated the design shown on the left in hand painted
Sea Cruise Serenity. Notice the nice new border!
Yarn and Needles
300-350 yards of fingering or
light sport-weight yarn such as Heritage Yarns
Serenity
cotton/rayon as shown in sample
(Using Serenity cotton/rayon
from Heritage Yarns, one skein makes two scarves)

U.S. needles or size to produce a desirable fabric.
Gauge is not terribly
important for a scarf but expect to get somewhere near
5 sts./7 rows = 1”/2.5 cm over
pattern after blocking using Serenity. The weight has a
nice drape and an accessory that can be worn in any climate any time of
the year.
Finished size after blocking:

Finishing
and Blocking
Wash the scarf and while it is damp, block it.
This scarf will be wide before blocking.
Look at the bindoff end, you will see that the fabric has formed
natural arches. Pin those close together on your blocking surface, and then
stretch the scarf until the scarf is only 3” wide (you may need to move
the pins.)
Stretch it along the entire length, and pin the bottom edge to mirror
the top. Let dry.
Enjoy! Mary and Margaret
