Introduction

The purpose of this WebQuest is to introduce our team to the concept of matter. Matter is everywhere and is everything.  You are made of matter. The computer that you are using for this activity is made of matter. The food you eat, the liquid you drink and the air you breathe are all made of matter.

Put on your sunglasses, fasten your seat belts and enjoy our fast paced quest to discover a world filled with matter.

In this activity you will be divided into three groups, the Solids, Liquids, & Gases. Mr. Conant will give you your group assignment in class.

Now that you know which group you are in scroll down to the “Worksheets” section of this page and click on your group.

Evaluation

The WebQuest worksheet will be collected and given a quiz grade.  At the end of chapter 1 in your text book you will create a "What's The Matter?" poster.  Your poster will graded using the following rubric.

Your Poster is extremely neat, contains correct spelling, has appropriate content, and contains print, drawings, and pictures (magazine clippings). Your poster is neat, contains correct spelling, has mostly correct content, and contains some print, drawings, and pictures (magazine clippings). Your poster is fairly neat, contains satisfactory spelling, has some correct content, and contains little print, drawings, and pictures (magazine clippings). Your poster is not neat, contains many spelling mistakes, has little related content, and does not contain a range of print, drawings, and pictures (magazine clippings).  

 


Conclusion 

 At the completion of this WebQuest you should know many aspects of matter. Before this activity you learned about how matter is measured (metric system). During the activity you learned about the particles of matter (atoms), the three major states of matter, as well as the difference between chemical and physical changes.
