The Gingrich-Pelosi Climate Change Ad: Why I Took Part

*UPDATE* Newt has responded to your comments below! CLICK HERE to read this latest response to you!

Visit ContractWithTheEarth.com for more on green conservatism

Many of you have written to me to ask why I recently taped an advertisement with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for The Alliance for Climate Protection, a group founded by former Vice President Al Gore.

I completely understand why many of you would have questions about this, so I want to take this opportunity to explain my reasons. First of all, I want to be clear: I don't think that we have conclusive proof of global warming. And I don't think we have conclusive proof that humans are at the center of it.

But here's what we do know. There is an important debate going on right now over the right energy policy, the right environmental policy, and making sure we do the right things for our future and the future of our children and grandchildren. Conservatives are missing from this debate, and I think that's a mistake. When it comes to preserving our environment for future generations, we can't have a slogan of "Just yell no!"

I have a different view. I think it's important to be on the stage, to engage in the debate, and to communicate our position clearly. There is a big difference between left-wing environmentalism that wants higher taxes, bigger government., more bureaucracy, more regulation, more red tape, and more litigation and a Green Conservatism that wants to use science, technology, innovation, entrepreneurs, and prizes to find a way to creatively invent the kind of environmental future we all want to live in. Unless we start making the case for the latter, we're going to get the former. That's why I took part in the ad.

Thank you for reading and visiting Newt.org

Well I just voted for Chuck Baldwin. You Global Warming, "green conservative", free trader, reverse-merchantilist, guest worker mongers creep my out.

That and saying stuff like "Capitalism has failed" during the credit bubble crisis is a rather odd thing to say. Capitalism hasn't failed, the invisible hand simply reacted to the credit bubble which you guys created. The invisible hand always moves to and fro, even in Communist regimes.

Sometimes I wish I never studied physics, then I could join the rest of you all in ignorant bliss. The Hydrocarbon molecule is the most efficient energy carrier for transportation energy, no if's, ands or butts.

You Global Warmists scare the hell out of me, you are more dangerous then Communists. Don't expect me to vote for McCain either, I already made up my mind and re-registered Constitution Party.

By Anonymous @ Monday, May 19, 2008 7:26 AM
Okay.. here it comes. The Climate Security Act... and YOU are being used in support of it. Read this article in the San Jose Mercury ( http://www.mercurynews.com/localnewsheadlines/ci_9308526 ). Here's a quote: "For those trying to put the nation on a low-carbon diet, the timing is right. In odd-couple-style TV spots, Nancy Pelosi joins Newt Gingrich, and Pat Robertson sides with Al Sharpton, in urging Congress to take action. Time magazine has struck up the drumbeat, trading its red border for green with a recent cover story called "How to Win the War on Global Warming."

Newt... you've joined the ranks of the useful idiots. You're being used to destroy the American economy and impoverish the American people. And for no good reason except to satisy your need for approval.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, May 07, 2008 11:54 AM
There is NO excuse, no matter how thoughtful, for taking part in the greatest global hoax ever perpetuated by man.

You sitting down with Pelosi was not unlike Carter sitting down with Hamas. I've lost all respect for you.

You've completely validated them. That snake oil salesman Al Gore is raking in MILLIONS selling carbon offsets and now you're his poster boy!! That commercial does nothing to further your thoughtful "green conservatism." It makes you look like two kids sitting on a couch that just got caught making out at your parent's house.

Thanks, Newt, for setting back real conservatives' efforts to stop this new communism, global warming hysteria. I hope you make tons of money selling your contract with the earth (whatever that's supposed to mean, who's signing for the earth, Gaia?).

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, May 06, 2008 11:06 PM
Newt,
I do agree with you that we can't just "shout no". I think it would be more appropriate to shout "HELL NO!"

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, May 06, 2008 12:43 PM
I have lost all respect for you. Global warming is nothing more than a bunch of crap being shoved down the throats of american citizens by people who hate this country. Since you refuse to join the fight to present the truth about what creeps like Gore are saying, I can only conclude that you have crossed over to the dark side.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, May 06, 2008 11:29 AM
If you are truly concerned about the environment you will challenge your San Francisco values buddy on the couch with doing something about the illegal aliens. They are adding millions of additional carbon footprints to this country.

The liberal position on this is contradictory to what is good for the environment and you are not calling them on it. You sitting on the couch with that liberal is the most disgusting thing I have ever witnessed out of you. I have cancelled my email newsletter from you as you have totally lost my respect as as conservative. You are playing the McCain card pretending to be a conservative.

This country need a 3rd party and you and McCain are forcing me to vote 3rd party this year

Newt, I am so disappointed in you and your poor judgement. You embraced a hoax, you endorsed a really stupid premise; you signed on to a fashionable way to advance socialist theology;
your words will be used in the future to defend this idiotic theory of man-made "climate change."

Newt Greengrich?

HA!!!!! hahahahahahahahahahahhah!!!

I agree that we should be concerned about the envirement. However, there is at least one thing that is way more important
I am a true, born again Christian and therefore spiritual things are the most important to me. I have been studying the endtime prophecy scriptures (Bible) for many years and any one who knows the Bible and the current events in the world can only come to one conclusion: We are living in the very, very, very last days. The endtime prophecies are too numerious to address here. But one of the most important things is to know that the rapture of the Church is the next thing to take place. The rapture is that all true born again Christians will just suddenly disapear without a trace. The is covered very well in the series of books called "Left Behind" by Tim LaHaye. I would love to continue this dialogue with you.

I was quite disappointed to see the PSA you did with Nancy Pelosi not because you paired with her but your seeming agreement with what I consider to be the global warming hoax passed off as settled science. With the first Earth Day in the early 70’s came the warning of a new ice age that was soon coming. When that faltered it was man made global warming that would doom the planet. Now that this dogma is beginning to undergo scrutiny the new catch phrase is “climate change”. Well the climate changes every day, every month, every season. Words have meaning and climate change has attached to it all of the enviro-babble that the political left can muster.

I read Alvin Toffler’s Future Shock where I believe I first heard of the concept of ‘carbon credit’. What a great idea if you are a globalist! First you convince the public that carbon dioxide is a pollutant and then you turn carbon into a global currency in the form of carbon credits that can be bought and sold. This is classic redistribution of wealth from producer nations to non-producers. Wasn’t Toffler very prominently seated at the Democratic Convention back in 2000?

This is not to say I am against protecting the planet, the air and the water. Being politically conservative I prefer to be referred to as conservationist. This philosophy is what our grandparents instilled in us. Do not waste, save and re-use where possible, take what you need but use all that you take.

I did see your interview with Bill O’Reilly and I agree that we must come to agreements where possible. But by accepting the premise of the enviro-left means you have already lost the argument. The liberals/progressives are very clever, they demand compromise and each time we compromise with them it means a slight tilt to the left.

The extreme environmentalists seem not to be interested in any compromise. No drilling for domestic oil, no new refineries, no nuclear, no coal, no hydroelectric. They seem to think that exotic new energy sources (tax-payer funded of course) will save us at no cost. Bio-fuels take more energy than it returns then there is the unintended consequence of higher food prices. Windmills are now killing migratory birds so there is pressure to shut them down during migration seasons and the esteemed Senator from Massachusetts does not what them in is sailing area. Geo thermal has very limited usage. Solar farms require vast tracks of land. Hybrid cars have the problem of disposal of large batteries.

Before this entire nation becomes a third world country as Los Angeles already seems to be, I suggest that Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged be required reading. It is a glimpse into the world we are headed for.

By Anonymous @ Saturday, May 03, 2008 4:00 PM
The reason for Newt to go along with this hoax is what really ticks me off. He says we have to be on the stage of debate and convince others (democrats) that with technological advances we can be enviromentally friendly and have all the energy we need. With all the advances we have made in the past 30 plus years and still no refineries, nuke plants and always a big NO on drilling on our own shores, I hope everyone realizes the ultimate goal of the left is not to make this country better but to drag it down and suffocate it. Even if we found a way to use carbon dioxide as a fuel in our cars they would find a reason not to use it, like taking away the plants and trees food source.

By Anonymous @ Saturday, May 03, 2008 12:25 PM
The U.S. needs to be energy independent. Leaders in our land develop Nuclear generating plants with the technology we already have for inexpensive power that is safe. Drill for oil on the Atlantic and Pacific
coasts of America. Build refineries now for oil and gas. Lets not allow our economy to be stilted by a few gloom and doom people. Be bold do what is good for America.

By Anonymous @ Saturday, May 03, 2008 2:14 AM
WeCanSolveIt as long as we buy into what Albert Gore Jr. is selling, and last time I checked Bull S***, wasn't in demand, unless you're a liberal democrat trying to buy carbon credits so you can feeeeel better. I miss the good old days when man made global warming and the idea of two grown men getting married was a joke everyone laughed at, look no one is laughing anymore, oh I hope this is only a bad dream, please wake up.

Michael Savage was right on about you. You are the Georgia GOPAC tick aka Spinelus cavinien for going along with this global warming with the liberals. No wonder everyone is so cynical about politicians, most of you sell your souls for some reason our other. Sorry Savage that I thought you were nuts for so long! You're the only voice of sanity in an insane world!

By Anonymous @ Saturday, May 03, 2008 12:54 AM
You are really disappointing Newt. Why would you sell out and side with the Democrats on the global warming hysteria? Nancy Pelosi and Al Gore are correct then? Why are Republicans always on the defense on this stupid issue? Who doesn't want clean air and water??? Why do we need to sell out our national sovereignty and hand the controls of our free market over to a bunch of left wing activists!? Get with it Newt, you're a let down.

By Anonymous @ Friday, May 02, 2008 8:45 AM
Mr. Speaker,
I've seen Al Gore's movie and his follow-up slide show which he is sharing via environmental deputies around the country. The awful irony is that most of these deputies are ignorant in the methods of science, and it is slap-dash propaganda efforts like this that make the conservative movement (and the American people) most vulnerable to the random winds of news cycles on the "science" of global warming, or what is now called "climate change."

A man came to Georgia Tech recently from Emory to talk about the "old" term, global warming. He WAS a candidate for phD., in the THEOLOGY department. While he was having difficulty setting up his slide show, he said he would be using the same version for us that he used to a fourth grade class earlier that same morning. Wanting to speak to his knowledge, rather than his ignorance of science, I asked him why the film was meaningful for him. He ignored the question mostly; by rote he barked the TO-DO list nearly identical to the animated presentation. This is of course, the reaction that Gore intended. Show a film or slideshow, make believe that you are going to talk about it and then pretend to solve the problems using answers from the film.

I urge you to see the slideshow if you haven't already and to view it with a scientific eye--if you can. It's only real and unimpeachable scientific claim is that CO2 is a greenhouse gas. The alarmist implications about it being the ONLY cause for warming, the projected figures of earth's average temp rising ten degrees (or so), and it's images of all life dying in a massive fireball are all unscientific and fluff. I asked him whether Earth was a closed system and how he could know for sure that CO2 was the only significant. He had no answer, except to shake his head. His great scientific claim at that point was the nearly 1000 UN and world "scientists" with no names who signed on to this theory. But which theory, I asked him. Did they sign onto the movie or did they postulate a theory? I asked him to let me know. I also asked him the names of the scientists and why few or none appeared in the slideshow making any kind of claims. He merely became indignant and uncomfortable.

He did alienate me, "what are you doing here?" he bellowed, "do you have a purpose for being here?"

This is the purpose of efficient propaganda--to alienate and marginalize political enemies. It works. The climate change movement is clearly growing at an enviable pace, and its detractors are unorganized and inept.

Part of the problem is the scientific credo itself: that something is theory until it is proven--a standard that Gore and the climate goons have completely ignored. 99.999% of the time the only true honest scientific answer about new research is, "we don't yet know."

And because Gore's defenders are holding his critics to the standard which they themselves have ignored, the only perfunctory and scientifically honest thing we can say about Gore is that it's probably not true or that he hasn't taken nearly any of the known variables into account, much less discovered any unknown ones. What's also true scientifically is "it's not science," and, by extension therefore "Gore is a goddam liar."

The environmental agit-prop works well in grade school, high school and is absurdly well-absorbed by today's college students--more so by the non-scientific majors, I believe. Even then, most students at a school like Georgia Tech, where we have over 10,000 budding engineering and science students, I find that most students maintain the mildly strong default position to be environmentally apologetic. In short, Mr. Speaker, this green wave of propaganda is a political war that conservatives and scientifically correct people are losing fast.

In my opinion, your appearance with speaker Pelosi where you mouth the words "climate change" will be used for many years as a club with which liberals and the awful Greens will hit conservatives and "global warming deniers", as some have come to call us.

I believe that there is a small but nascent conservative movement building to answer the false science. I urge you to find out about it and lend your support and influence to it. I believe people like us will be critical in "yelling stop," to the politically expedient false conclusions arrived at from false or meaningless scientific data.

Mr. Speaker, I am a student of science, but I do not wish to be governed by its raw data. Acquiescence to scientific truths as naked policy is bad enough, and it is truly awful when whatever the policy is based upon is entirely false.

At best, the green movement is a lie based on rushed & tortured science; at worst, a lie based on another lie. I'm concerned about my country, its education, its economy, our freedom and our misuse of science a partisan political bludgeon. We need to push back against this and expose the movement and Gore, its titular head for what they are---charlatans and liars who will do and say anything for political power.

While I agree that we need to be good stewards of the Earth, I just can't understand why the words "Climate Change" had to come out of your mouth instead of hers. Climate Change previously known as Global Warming is THEIR slogan/issue. Yours, as you say in your explanation of why you did the ad, is "Green Conservatism" focusing on "science, technology, innovation, entrepreneurs, and prizes to find a way to creatively invent the kind of environmental future we all want to live in." If this is true, why didn't you stick with YOUR/OUR terminology and ideas instead of lending credibility to their nutty jargon and thereby confusing people who look to you as a conservative compass. You are right in saying we have to be on the stage and engage in the debate and communicate our position clearly. But, and this is a BIG BUT, you picked the wrong stage to be on and you did anything BUT communicate your position clearly! It came across as if you are in agreement with the farse called "Climate Change". Please respond soon to tell us that you have something lined up to correct this major blunder.

By Anonymous @ Friday, May 02, 2008 1:59 AM
I was wondering what better set of circumstances there could be for beginning the national discussion on completely re-thinking our means of private transportation, than the one we have now. We went to war over 3,500 Americans being killed for just going to work, and yet every year in this conuntry, tens of thousands are killed by the transportation system we use. The energy source we use to drive this system is becoming prohibitively expensive, in both direct and indirect costs (not least of which is our economic tether to oil rich despots), and can only become more so in the coming decades. And what do those "crash dummy" test ads really tell you, if not that you should buy that particular car because if you use this system, sooner or later you're going to be in a collision, with all the property damage and injury that normally entails.

So when do we start talking about a private transportation system in which no one is ever killed or injured seriously, and that uses any of a variety of energy sources? If the current system were turned on it's head, making the vehicles dumb, and the infrastructure smart, couldn't this be accomplished eventually? Haven't we had the computer technology for quite a while now to control such an infrastructure? Wouldn't some variation on a monorail track to replace "roads" we have now make it nearly impossible (in combination with the computer control) for vehicles to collide? And couldn't the "fuel" for the vehicles be electricity (generated in any way that is most economical) delivered by that same monorail?

I know there must be a thousand obstacles that need to be overcome for such a system to ever be implimented, but when are we going to begin talking about them at least? When are we going to wise up to the fact that a car that gets 60 mpg is a *bandaid* on something that needs stitches. A new system from bottom to top is what we're eventually going to need, and it's going to take *decades* to impliment, and probably decades of research and development before it ready to begin being implimented. And it's probably going to take five years just to decide on what particular research and development to pursue. That's what I'd like to see begin tomorrow. I'd like to see a national leader like you begin to bring this out, and push for a national discussion.

We *need* a means of private transportation that is affordable, powered by any of various sources of energy, helps take away our dependence upon foreign dictators, and that doesn't kill us in ever increasing numbers. And maybe, just maybe if our courts weren't so clogged with tort cases and criminal cases involving cars crashing into other cars, people, and personal property, others would stand a better chance of getting their day in court in a much more timely manner.

Newt, I’m a big time conservative and I was with you on just about everything you say except for the global warming hoax. This hoax that you are trying to sell with the left could & would (if implemented) have the worst possible effect on our economy (more than any of the democrat policies). This is a hoax, as proven by so many scientists and can be identified by person with a level thinking head.
Advocating for global warming policies is tied for the worst possible thing you could do, so I have to say see you later; I am de-subscribing to your news letter today (as I am sure many others are too)!

I want to thank you Newt for being brave and having the courage to stand up for what you believe in. You knew it was risky to make this ad, but you also knew it was Right. Thank you for showing that Conservatives conserve, and that Christians are the stewards of this God-given Earth, as the Bible intends. Let's all give Newt a break on this one, as I think his reasoning for doing the ad is fine. Bipartisanship, although hard to swallow sometimes, is what it takes to get things done.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, May 01, 2008 12:38 AM
Newt! If you dance with the enemy, they will backstab you their first chance. Your reason is lame for this ad, since the ad leaves the impression that you believe these global warming lies. Help! where are the conservatives when we need them.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, May 01, 2008 12:28 AM
Newt,
"If you sleep with dogs you get up with fleas."
What hubris to think that man can affect climate change, and our leaders, such as the current Speaker, are anything but clueless. They are causing food stocks to be burned up in ethanol and causing people to starve in the name of global climate change.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 30, 2008 11:45 PM
Newt,
Bad decision man. I, too, saw this ad without having any forewarning and almost broke my hip when I fell out of the chair. So, based on the ad, one can conclude that you do concede that "climate change" can be changed by human behavior. I have lost a lot of respect for you.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 30, 2008 10:19 PM
Ouch!! Can hardly stand to watch the ad with you and Nancy! Anyone viewing that ad would leave with the understanding that you were on board with the global warming issue....also referred to as "climate change" just in case you're all wrong on the global warming piece. I didn't hear you say anything in that ad about "not supporting man made global warming"! When do we get to hear that? I have no problem conserving our natural resources and taking reasonable care of our planet. I've been doing that for years, and will continue to live that way. However, it has nothing to do with man made global warming!! So, I hope that in your next buddy/buddy ad with Nancy, you are a bit clearer on what it is the two of you agree on! It certainly wasn't clear with the current ad that is showing.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 30, 2008 6:22 PM
This one is where you lost me on the entire "Platform of the American People". I agree with Richard Fernandez ("Wretchard" of "The Belmont Club):

"Environmentalism has become the political lifeboat into which the survivors of the socialist shipwreck have crammed themselves. The need to “manage the climate” became the new foundation on which to base regulatory structures, impositions, and taxes which were formerly justified by the imperative to manage the “commanding heights of the economy.” Kyoto was the highest expression of the program to “manage the climate” and provided the same new basis for socialistic policies that Marxism once did. "

Embracing the false premise underlying their scheme is not going to deflect them from their goal. Only exposing the fraud will do that.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 30, 2008 6:15 PM
I agree with you. The green movement is something we as conservatives (and republicans are invited to join along) need to get in front of. I don't agree with the assertions of man-made global warming, however the environment is a precious thing and I am taught in my bible that we are to be good stewards of the earth.
If we don't get in front of this issue, then polticos such as Pelosi will pervert the process and add taxes that will cripple an already struggling economy. After all, that is what they do- throw money at the problem. The solutions here lie in private-sector entrepenuerism. Build the better mousetrap, and offer incentives for the ingenuity and the risks to do so.
We need to dictate the terms of going green. After all, it can make good business sense as well.

Brother Newt!
I am in my 60's, so if My comments seem rather naive, pardon I beg! I grew up in the Great Smoky Mountain in North Carolina in the 40’s. I have a natural affinity for nature and the beauty of our home! The mountains in spring and summer are spectacular with flowers and plants that cannot be found anywhere else, animals and fowl, fish! All of which induce a boy to go to the lakes and streams. Barefoot in the ponds and creeks, the sounds of nature go deep into the soul. So I do have a good deal of love for God’s garden! I have lived through many presidents and other politicians that want to get on the ‘current bandwagon’ about the earth and how to make it better! All of the ideas put forth seem, on the surface, to be beneficial to the planet. However, the real problem is NOT what people do to the earth for, as perspectives go, mankind is an insignificant part of the whole! The real problem this planet faces is from the planet itself, and other uncontrollable outside influences. You do realize that one volcanic eruption such as from Mt. Saint Helens put more fluorocarbons and CO2 into the atmosphere than those devices mankind has ever used? The larger problem that people have been made to think they have caused, global warming, is not from anything we have done or are doing, but rather from an alien source-that being the sun! Our source of heat and energy up in the sky is not, and cannot be affected by us—period! Yet it goes through cycles of heating up and cooling off, which in turn, makes planets heat up and cool off. If you’ll check the specs, there is another planet that also is going through global warming. Mars!! The scientists have evidence that Mars is heating up, just like earth, and that info is out there for the analyzing, but those scientists that are funded by the Al Gore tactics of ‘the sky is falling’ want to ignore that fact, in favor of trying to make us feel that WE have caused this phenomenon. They suggest that we all do our part to combat something that we have very little control over, and the result is to make more and more goods and services a lot more expensive, which hurts people who need to buy products, and use the services! While everything that we as a nation and the whole population of the earth talk about doing to help, may be all good, it will accomplish nothing other than to make people feel good about their selves, and spend an upwardly spiraling amount of money that could, and should be used for other things! The cash that is spent on projects to combat global warming by making us ‘greener’ would go a long way to help poor people that are hungry for something to eat. They’ve induced us to try CFL lighting product to save energy, yet fail to warn us that these bulbs, which MAY pay for the extra expense of purchasing if they burn long enough, are filled with mercury and can poison our personal environment. If a bulb needs to be disposed of you have to do it properly, which adds even more expense! The fact that you and Nancy get on the tube together to lend support to this ‘fear of what might be’ only helps to line the pockets of the unscrupulous that take advantage of the lies that people like Al Gore put forth as fact! I say that you should have made better use of the funds spent on the TV spots to help victims of crime, or Katrina, or the next natural disaster! But if you want to go down the road to Kyoto....

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 30, 2008 12:07 PM
Newt, I like you and I wish you were running for the Presidency. But, your use of the term "climate change" is logically an impossibility with mankind. God established the seasons (Gen. 1:14) and He and only He changeth the times and the seasons. (Dan. 2:21) He and only He sends the lightening (Job 28:26 and 38:25). He and only He sends the rain on the just and the unjust. Man needs to be careful how he uses words and protrayed thoughts. Control the pollutions of the air, water and lands? YES! Climate control by man? NO!

As a conservationist as well as a capitalist, I am apalled at the momentun that the global warming fraud/hysteria/religion has generated. You participation in the debate is wlcome and needed but, your apparent abdication to the left in the debate is more than disturbing. I hope that you will enquire into the voluminous EVIDENCE that global warming is natural and has occured approximately every 1500 years for the past 135,000, as opposed to the THEORY of man-made greenhouse gases contributing and significant warming

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 30, 2008 10:58 AM
Dear Sir, the ad was unsettling and did not look good. Please use your voice to give voice to the leading scientists who have recently published the NIPCC (N=NONGOVERNMENTAL). We need leadership that will educate the public about the nonexistence of "global warming", about the true nature of the oil industry, about the decades and billions already spent only to prove that solar and wind are not the utopian answer to our energy problems, nor to our spiritual problems.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 30, 2008 10:24 AM
I saw the ad last night and almost fell off my couch.

The day is cold and damp. Black and white. No leaving on the trees. Misery. Perfect doom and gloom.

I wish you would have expressed some of your real reasons for appearing in the ad instead of sitting there with Pelosi grinning as if they were fishing buddies. For anyone that may be on the fence about this notion of global warming, the ad could have been enough to sway them.

Shame on Newt for buddying up to Pelosi.
Shame on Newt for giving credence to Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection (the ads sponsor).
Shame on Newt for not learning from previous experience that he can not trust Liberal Democrats.

Mark

Nothing your ad partner has ever said in public has been truthful. So why would you waste time with this idiot?

By rmw @ Wednesday, April 30, 2008 9:21 AM
First off, you do not win any fight by conceding the monster issue, you have lost all control at that point.

Global climates have *never* been stable ... this is a delusion we have created for ourselves by ignoring just about everything about reality. There are cycles that have been clearly documented for decades, and yet these psuedo scientists still cannot tell you with any degree of certainty what is going to happen in the next 72 hours.

The CONSERVATIVE view should NOT be based upon *any* premise that man is causing a global disaster, because the ONLY reasonable conclusion that many will draw from that is that BIG GOVERNMENT has to regulate the "big bad guys" to "FIX" the problem.

You can INSTANTLY destroy any liberal's asinine perspective ... IF global warming is real, and IF we are going to die as a result, then doesn't it make sense to go to all out WAR with the Chinese and India since they are cranking out obscene amounts of pollution and will soon surpass anything we can? NO? Then who the hell are they kidding?

I would propose that a CONSERVATIVE view should be based upon these premises:

a) it is insane to live in your own swill. Allowing anybody to fill the air, water or land with anything that makes us all sick or kills us quicker is just stupid.

b) purest capitalism means that we must know the REAL cost of an item to make an intelligent decision about whether to use it or not. Allowing industry to dump poisons that we have to pay to cleanup later hides the TRUE cost of the item they were making. If I had to pay the cost of mercury cleanup when I bought the sheet of paper, I would be a helluva lot more reasonable with my use of paper.

c) every dollar spent has the secondary effect of empowering the seller. If you spend money with companies owned by liberals, you empower liberals. If you purchase products from terrorist sponsors, you get more terrorism.

I am sure there are more, but I have a real job so I cannot spend all my time discussin g this here!

Newt,

By appearing with the self-serving, power mad Mrs. Pelosi, you have denigrated any message you were trying to deliver. I switch the channel as soon as the ad comes on. Surely you know better than to try to deliver a serious message by associating it with the most disingenuous hack in Congess. Oops, I,m sorry, the second most disingenuous person in Congress. Harry Reid is number one.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 30, 2008 2:22 AM
In this era or bitter partisan demagoguery it's refreshing to see someone who understands the concept of the loyal opposition. While I believe that Gore's convictions are badly flawed and that the radical environmentalist crowd is motivated by ulterior motives of eviscerating the economic and military power of the US in favor of a pre-industrial agrarian society, we must remember that we are stewards of God's creation and as such must cooperate with others where possible. However, as Reagan used to say, trust, but verify. So, please watch your six.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 30, 2008 1:12 AM
Newt, Newt, Newt:

I'm not too happy about your ad with Nancy Pecrapy. You, of all people should know better and your explanation is plain silly. Once you accept their premise, you've lost.

Why can't you just simply publicize what a hoax climate change is and provide statistics to show it. I know there are plenty of scientists to support your case.

Remember, Real Change Requires Real Change, not Obama's form of change.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 30, 2008 12:27 AM
Shame on you, Mr. Newt, for even being seen on the same screen as that miscreant, and for caving to that junk science (which is bogus, bovine scatology);
when Mt. St. Helens erupted it produced more CO2 than mankind has in its entire history!

Please, Cease and Desist...

Newter... WHY does G.W. wait until he is nearly out of office to talk tough with the dems about drilling for oil or looking for fuel in our own territories? And WHERE have the republicans been on the issue? And WHAT are conservatives doing to advance our agenda on the fuel issues? We are so friggin frosted out here when we HAVE TO listen to that blowhard ChuckieSchumer talk about how long it will take to get oil out of Anwar and how little it will matter. We should have oil rigs dotting this country and ringing our shores sucking OUR oil and OUR natural gas out of what GOD GAVE US.... all the while developing hydrogen and nuclear power. You have engaged the grassroots with your real change platform, when will you or someone else engage the grassroots on the fuel issues - our oil, our gas, our nuclear. We should make getting to our natural resources - oil, nat.gas - a matter of national security, which it really is. We NEED A LEADER to spearhead this charge and keep it front and center. You? C'mon, Newter, you recognize, I think, that the results of this could be a legacy that could put you on a par with the greats... It ain't gonna happen with old Mickey. He hasn't a clue. You know it, we know it. And if the socialists get in office, we are screwed unless we have a reagan conservative just off stage pushing the agenda. FIGHT the GOOD fight. We need you NOW! Email me for lunch so we can talk about this stuff, if you are ever in the S.Ohio area.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 11:16 PM
Newter...is her plastic surgery as scary in person as it looks on TV? I am surprised she can still blink. You should have had your fingers up behind her head to make fun of her and her message. "climate change" is the new "global warming" which was the SOCIALIST grab for control of man's sources of power. I need a shower after watching your ad; can't imagine what it would be like sitting next to that b.s.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 9:52 PM
For 25 years I have worked in the environmental field- for government, giant oil corporations, giant waste management corporations, oil recycling, and oil exploration companies. I have an environmental science degree. Global warming's main cause is precession or the wobbling of the earth on its axis. Man contributes only a small percentage to this natural phenomenon, and the rate of warming is very small on a 26,000 year cycle. We are stewards of our land and culture, and should "conserve" both, and it fits our conservative ideology. Thanks for reaching across the isle.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 8:48 PM
Newt, I really looked up to you and thought you were one of the greatest men in America until you signed on to this Lie about Global Warming. I agree with you on almost everything you say until now. I'm looking elsewhere for leadership. Please show us different.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 8:40 PM
Newt, Please look at the facts, not the garbage put out by the left about "Global Warming". You were there in the late 60's and early 70's, Walter Cronkite and these same kooky people crying "Global Cooling". Please see the movie "Expelled" and also look at what other real scientists are saying !! It's all a power grab by the left. Let's get FACTS. There have been no FACTS given to support global warming, they tell the same lie enough that even you believe it. HOGWASH !!

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 7:39 PM
First off ... the Speaker's offense was not simple participation, conservatives have been the *REAL* preservationists in recent history ... it was the use of the term 'global climate change' and the insane notion that somehow we can alter it. This is socialist jargon for massive government control ... and we are seeing (by the *real* crisis, food shortages) ... what a disaster that is.

The earth's climate has *always* been changing, far more dramatically in most times than in recent history. Giving in to this notion just to 'play the game' is granting victory to the enemy, then simply negotiating the conditions of the surrender.

Algore is going to go down in history as the posterboy for the great famine of the 21st century that may very well kill millions of people AND DESTROY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF SQ MILES OF LAND (rainforest converted to farms to produce ethanol).

Conservatives should NEVER be associated with anything these kooks establish, ever. Mr. Gingrich is correct that we need to be in the fight, but we need to utterly destroy our enemies to save this earth from their mindless crap.

By Gatorwest @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 7:38 PM
What do we hear from the Republicans? Dig more oil, "get" ExxonMobil, Kick OPEC in the butt (Trump)! What America needs now is a leader like JFK who says: In 10 years we are off oil for personal vehicles! Here are the cars:

Chevy has launched a test fleet of hydrogen-powered fuel cell Equinox SUVs. http://www.chevrolet.com/fuelcell/ This fleet has already hit the streets of New York City, Washington, D.C., and Southern California.

Ford has ALREADY delivered Hydrogen buses to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, Greater Orlando Airport Authority (GOAA), Orlando Convention Central District, SeaWorld Orlando, University of Missouri Raleigh, city of Las Vegas, the San Mateo (Ca.) County Transportation Authority, and 10 buses to Canada for use in Prince Edward Island, Ottawa and Vancouver. To date, 23 buses of the 30 built have been delivered to customers for commercial use.http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=27904

Plus there are the great new electric cars coming from Chevy that are starting to seem like cars http://www.chevrolet.com/fuelcell/

Here is the fuel:
http://www.fuelcells.org/thomasstudy.pdf

GM now estimates that an initial nationwide hydrogen infrastructure to support 1 million FCVs and to place a hydrogen fueling pump within 2 miles of the homes of 70% of the US population as well as every 25 miles on the interstates connecting the 100 largest cities would cost between $10 billion and $15 billion. Less than what ExxonMobil paid in income taxes last year.

Newt, it's kind of like when the Japanese attacked Pearl harbor. America mobilized its Science industry & government, and put about 15 brand new aircraft carriers in the Pacific in no time! Let's get these cars built, out of the plants and into America garages. It's not like we have to go out and invent something, like the atomic bomb. The solution is driving around on our streets right now.

What's needed is a call to action.

Where is our LEADER?

Highly disappointed that you, of all people, finally caved in to the political left. There is so much evidence against so called global warming, now called climate change. I'm sure you viewed the BBC's retort to Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth. After viewing the BBC program, how were you able to change to Pelosi's viewpoint?

Newt, you are one of my favorite political leaders in America today which makes it so painful to see you sign on with the global warming crowd at just the moment when science is starting to show more and more that it's all a hoax. This year's bitter cold winter world wide is demonstrating that the earth's climate is more under the control of sunspot activity than man's production of CO2. Even the global warmists have acknowledged this by changing its name to the all encompassing "climate change." But like the prodigal son, all will be forgiven if you just come home to true conservatism and abandon this nonsense with Pelosi.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 6:22 PM
Newt- There is zero benefit to a "conservative solution" to a problem that DOES NOT EXIST. Nancy Pelosi is our political enemy and must be DEFEATED, not joined. Conservatives could wipe these people out in a debate of facts and principles, but you choose to give in. Real change requires real leadership! Instead we get this Mickey Mouse approach of capitulating because we feel "left out." Give me a break!

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 6:12 PM
We do have a responsibility to protect the enviroment, but we need to do it with widsom. Nancy may have some knowledge, but her wisdom is sorely lacking. Lets use our resources with wisdom not with fear and trembling. I enjoy the remarks you make in your column.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 6:10 PM
Mr. Gingrich:
No one cares, I'm just a Bozo, but here's my two cents cast into the millieu:
1.) Contract with America was brilliant. God bless you! You delivered, sir, which was even more important! We've coasted on the resulting economic tsunami through all these years, despite everything Congress and the Executive fumbled.
2.) Republicans will never be as good at, or as ruthless, as unprincipled Dem's who vote the polls - their god being power and money. When Repub's get away from principle, they lose - as rascals should.
2. Mr. McCain is a martinet who must be reined in by manipulating his own instincts for self-preservation. If he's not, we're better off with Republicans and a few Democrat statesmen voting as a block against a runamok Democrat administration, who (if we survive,) would NEVER repeat. That would usher in the end of this godless liberal madness. Worth four years of suffering. Again, IF we survive.
3. God bless Ronald Reagan but PLEASE articulate the principles, don't bore everybody with continuous references to a fallible icon from another era. The principles will ALWAYS apply, in any era. Conservative economics trumps everything - "No bucks, no Buck Rogers" (from Tom Wolfe's "The Right Stuff"). Arrogant though he may have been, Milton Friedman was absolutely inspired. EXPLAIN SIMPLE ECONOMICS, PEOPLE! IT'S JUST PSYCH 101 AND ARITHMETIC!
3. Google the name of a brilliant man: Iben Browning. He was a long-range climatologist who dieD in the '80's, but who was embarrassingly accurate. (The media shamefully skewered him for his misquoted PROJECTION regarding the New Madrid Fault - but that is an aside). He contended in the 1970's that three cyclical things (certainly NOT man) influenced climate: a.) sunspot activity; b.) crustal "tides" (volcanoes, etc.); and c.) radiation belt fluctuations - influenced climate. Man influences only locally, despite our arrogant pretentions. He contended taht the "global warming" hysteria even then was a bunch of academics justifying their phony baloney jobs. His daughter Evelyn Gariss Browning continues his climatological work, I believe.
4. ) The global warming panic has morphed into a lever to twist America into surrendering its sovereignty to others. Beware. While God commanded us to be stewards, He did not expect us to make the Earth into a god or environmentalism into a religion.
5.) We are the last best hope of a post-Christian world. We are the last hope of Israel. Forget these these we may - at or own peril. God help us all.

QED

I do not think the global warming has been proved. There has been too many records broken for cold weather in the last couple of years for global warming. Now I hear scientist saying global cooling is coming. I think we need to prove one or the other before we get crazy. Algore is already over the hill and I hope we the people can get some good answers from people of science and not the nuts.

Neut, -There a few Conservatives that I respect more than you. If, by protecting the enviroment you mean that I should not through my coffeee cup out the window. I totally agree.

I beleive the biggest mistake that everyone on both sides of the issue makes is that they look at the earth as to what is happening today, or even within the time frames of our lives. The earth however evolves over hundreds or even thousands of years. Everyone recognizes that many years ago there was an "Ice Age". for that to disappear there had to be global warning. I don't think humans caused that and "if " the earth is in fact warming now, we arn't causing this one either.

The Liberal left has to have two things to push their aganda. 1.) A villian and 2.) A victim. Their villians today are big corporations (oil, pharmaceuticals, tobacco, etc) i.e. Capitolism. The victims are any minority that they can keep dependent on them. If all African Americans became Secretary's of State, the left would be out of business.

Newt, You say in the ad, We need to address climate change. Why do we need to address (code for spend my $ and freedom) something we don't, and can't, know is happening? I'm afraid all you did was to help legitimize a false premise.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 1:54 PM
Firstly, the NOAA (real scientists) have let the air out of the global warming spoof... the ice has not only returned but there is more of it.
Secondly why does no one address the fact that in spite of her improper interpretation and wrong-headedness, Madalyn Murray O'hair gave us a great weapon to use in regards to separation of Church and State. Environmentalism is the modern rebirth of a Pagan religion, in my opinion this cannot be disputed. Our government has no business under the 1st ammendment, participating in any Earth Day, environmental or green efforts. This is tantamount to 'Gaia' worship, provably an ancient Pagan practice. If they can reject the inclusion of Christian principles from government, then we can likewise reject, on the same grounds, the inclusion of their religion in our government. This is a loosely and poorly disguised effort to revive an ancient "Earth Mother / Pagan" belief system.
To join with this effort in any way sends the signal to our youth and to our God that we are willing to bring Pagan idols into our homes, and to pay homage to the new age God of "science" (idolatry at best) and to insult God's divine authority over this earth... His creation. The only solution to this planets ill's do not lie in scientific puffery but in faith in the creator and in prayer.

As a former Georgia resident and a 30 year retiree from the Army, I am greatly disappointed in you appearing with the heroine of the left, Nancy Pelosi. By doing so, you are giving credence to the left-wing radicalism that is based on total government involvement/corruption and mismanagement that they are so famous for. They only know to increase taxes, regulations, expand big government, and to remove of our freedoms and rights in order to increase their power and control of many aspects of our individual lives. Have you noticed that "global warming" has now been changed to "climate change?" Now why did that happen? Could it be that so many reputable people have spoken out against Gore's shamming the American public, that a new slogan was needed that distanced itself from his insane self-serving rhetoric? Newt, I am really disappointed that you would appear with someone who is so hell-bent on destroying our government, our freedoms, and our country, especially with regards to her destructive views on how to handle the massive problem of illegal aliens. Yes, I am aware of the numerous environmental problems we currently face, but allying yourself with the radical left will only drag our country in their misguided, suicidal (regarding our country)direction. This is a direction this 30 year Army vetern doesn't want our great country to travel.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 1:30 PM
Dear Newt,
I love ya, BUT! I cannot see how playing the hand of Al Gore in the great non-debate (cause the debate is over I hear) about Global Warming is going to advance any conservative idea or agenda. The whole GW movement is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind. If the GW advocates are able to implement their agenda, the freedoms we enjoy in this country will be severely limited or ELIMINATED! No one on the Republican side is standing up and saying STOP THIS MADNESS. Senator Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma may be the only one, and not too many are listening to him. Even the President who has disappointed me in so many ways, has signed onto the concept.
It seems that the whole world "believes a lie". Hmm. Didn't I read that in a Scripture somewhere? Oh well.
The Republican Party no longer represents my views. The Democrats haven't since I was 18 and didn't know any better. I don't give a damn about the Party. I only care about right and wrong. I know those concepts can be defined many ways nowadays, but I believe in the old style, constant, consistent, Biblical right and wrong, not the moving target that passes for such in this day. Now our morals are defined by how "green" you are. I remember when being "green" meant you were a novice, uninitiated, unskilled, ignorant or stupid. I still think that about the "greens".
I have no political hero. Ronald Reagan is dead and now the Party men are telling us to forget him. What the hell am I supposed to do? I am left to vote for the liberal Republican, John McCain, because I sure cannot vote for Obama or Hillary. Either way I get more Global Warming bullshit, less freedom, more taxes, (McCain-Lieberman), more government and regulation, more illegal immigration, more taxes, less freedom, more taxes, less freedom. But I repeat myself.
I guess I'll just cling to my guns and my religion, cause there won't be much else left. God Bless America.
God D*** the Brave New World.

Great that you are fostering conservation of the planet.

The problem is that most of Al Gore's message is hysteria and wrong-headed approachees to deal with global warming -- two DISTINCT issues.

Your effort to promote conservation is lost in thye AlGore message of global warming hysteria.

You muddled your messasge, when normally you are quite clear.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 12:39 PM
Neville Chamberlain was not merely avoiding conflict; he was capitulating. That is the point in the comparison to Chamberlain.

The problem with the "engagement" approach is that, in order to do this, one must first accept the premise that we have to "go green" by doing things we aren't now doing, etc.

Things are more green in the U.S. today, meaning really green and thriving, than at any prior time in our lives.

The only problem we must confront (and we do) is man-made pollution. Pollution is what we create, just by living. Pollution, however, is a temporal thing. If we were to go away and are not here polluting anymore, natural cycles restore what we polluted to its natural state.

Pollution affects us. We know this. We deal with this. We are better at it now than at any time before. No one wants to live in filth and garbage.

The global warming crowd is concerned with solving problems. They can't be; this isn't a real problme. They create "facts" whole cloth.

This is not a legitimate debate. If we begin by accepting the premise that something man-made is wrong and is not being addressed, suggesting that we are doing little or nothing, we thereby have accepted a false premise. When we do that, we begin the discussion of what to do about an illusory "problem."

Once we agree to the premise of the illusion, we then begin looking for a solution. When we do that, the cure is undoubtedly worse than the problem, because the problem isn't real, it doesn't exist.

It was because of allegations of problems in schools that we created the necessity for the Federal Government to "fix education." The fix was the Department of Education. Has education in America gotten better during the last 30 years?

Remember this, Ronald Reagan came into office with the intention of eliminating the Department of Education. He was not able to do so. Now we have the Federal Government in all areas of education, right down to picking the players on extra-curricular sports teams after school.

Schools used to be run by parents. When the Federal Government began running the schools, parents weren't allowed to decide what's best for their own children in school, so parents dropped out. As a result, the quality of education dropped along with the parents. The fix to the allegations of problems in education became a whole host of bigger problems.

If the true purpose of the hysteria created by the Democrats regarding globabl warming is to in fact expand the control of government, there is, therefore, no logical incentive to actually do anything beneficial regarding pollution. The expanse of government didn't work in education. It won't work in environmentalism...because that is not the intent.

In education we were given not only the Department of Education, but also an entrenched cadre of lobbyists, lawyers and special interests. This is an example of the law of unintended consequences. The way to deal with the global warming hysteria is to defeat the false premise of the socialists foisting this as a crisis.

If, instead of rejecting the false premise, we accept at least in part the premise, there will be no improvement in anything. There will instead be commissions and committees and advisory groups, and...lobbyists, lawyers and special interests.

Caveat emptor!

To be effective and rational, climate change mitigation proposals must first demonstrate that:
1. There is serious adverse climate change, and
2. The change is caused by man, not naturally, and
3. The proposed action will be MATERIALLY EFFECTIVE, and
4. The benefits will outweigh the costs.
Point 1 is now subject to scientific debate and points 2, 3, and 4 are, for the proposals made to date, not only without scientific foundation, but often not even addressed at all.
Newt, your recent ad gives credibility to a speaker advocating an agenda most conservatives and moderates believe is harmful to America. The US government is doing everything possible to raise the price of oil, and now food, and this is hurting many people worldwide. Run an ad advocating drilling American oil and gas and if you want to get on the green bandwagon, advocate an immediate large scale nuclear power initiative. Lets deal with reality. The real reality is government is causing far more energy problems for Americans and the world than it is solving. An ad educating Americans that price is determined by Supply and Demand would be very helpful. If we don't do anything to increase the domestic supply of energy, we will be at the mercy of those who supply it. This is basic centuries old economics, but Americans don't seem to know it. Let's stop the political nonsense and work on the problems. Neither party is doing that now, and you're not helping.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 11:59 AM
I'm sorry you made the ad. I understand your stated reason but you failed miserably. Sharing with Pelosi the way you did implies agreement.
Do something positive: Advocate drilling in ANWAR; Reducing red tape in the construction of nuke plants; insure that invironmentsl radicals do not use the poorly drafted laws regarding endangered species to stop...or make very costly...projects that service man. ETC...there are many examples that had come from our self serving legislatures.
It is OK to be positive but NOT OK to support the likes of Pelosi!

By zlegatoz @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 11:36 AM
The other thing I like is that by emphasizing "science, technology, innovation, entrepreneurs, and prizes" some good conservative policy can be put in place.

If we can do that, it really doesn't matter whether people believe in golbal warming or not.

Good policy is good policy.

By zlegatoz @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 11:30 AM
The only problem with the Neville Chamberlain analogy is that Chamberlain was trying desperately to co-exist with the Nazis. He was conflict avoidant.

Newt is actually suggesting the opposite; that we get involved.

Yeah, perhaps in the short term it does lend more legitimacy than it should to the hoaxters. But their position is so entirely weak that when faced with some decent arguments (from our side), I think they'll start to look as silly as they actually are.

From a certain perspective, not engaging them is MORE conflict avoidant . . . or perhaps passive/aggressive (sitting over here yelling at Newt while actually allowing the left to run the table).

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 11:05 AM
The global warming hoax is foisted for the same purpose as was the Great Society: the expansion of government. Americans do not want more government. Democrats know this, so they attempt to induce panic. The Democrats scream that the sky falling. Americans want to do the right things. Their political leaders agit prop them into thinking they have done something wrong by living as Americans in a free society, so the American voters capitulate, wrongly. Newt Gingrinch has been courting the enemy for years. He apparently lacks the discernment to know this. So did Neville Chamberlain. These are not intellectual games. Real lives are affected. Most importantly, essential American values of Liberty and Freedom are at stake. As Ronald Reagan said, if these forces of socialism take hold, we will be plunged into 1000 years of darkness. As Lincoln said, America is the last best hope of the world. There is no man-made global warming. By accepting the socialist premise that there might be, we have just expanded and made worse the problem. Newt Gingrich either doesn't know, or doesn't care, with whom he's dealing. In fact, Gingrich is dealing with the same forces Ronald Reagan spent his entire political life opposing. There is no legitimate justification for compromising core values. Ronald Reagan left these people on the ash heap of history; Newt Gingrich is doing all he can to help their socialist republic rise from the ashes.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 10:57 AM
Hi Newt,
While I agree with your motives for adding a conservative voice to the discussion, something is very odd about your ad. In that ad you say, " if enough of us demand action from our leaders" something can be done and Speaker Pelosi agrees with you. Isn't Speaker Pelosi one of those leaders from whom action needs to be demanded? She talks like she is an outsider and not part of the leadership( I would consider the position of Speaker of the House to qualify as leadership). That ad is like listening to Senator Clinton talk about NAFTA as if she wasn't there when it was being worked out.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 10:41 AM
Yes the earth has warmed a little since the end of the Little Ice Age in about 1860. The current action of the sunspot cycle indicates we may be in for some global cooling. We have had a colder than usual winter. We may be in for more of the same for a while.

Watch the sunspot cycle. There is a slight lag between our global temperature and the peaks and lows of the cycle but there is a correlation.

By zlegatoz @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 3:48 AM
Ok, I'll comment (by the way, I think it is cool that you asked someone to comment):

-- Why all this partisan BS? --
Because we are ill-equipped to handle it any other way.

-- Why is everyone so tense? --
Because Newt is the most articulate messenger of conservatism out there right now, and it looks to a lot of people here like he is legitimizing a hoax. A lot of us think that Newt has a real shot at bringing some sense to the political landscape, but this ad doesn't fly with a large majority of his supporters.

-- And why is everyone up in arms over Carter going to Syria/Isreal and meeting with Hamas? --
I think there are a number of reasons. Among them:
- Legitimizing a terrorist organization.
- Undermining American foreign policy set by those who (for better or worse) were actually elected to do so.
- Illustrating naivety on our part which will only strengthen their perception of their cause.
- Actually accomplishing nothing tangible.

I could go on, but it would really be variations on a theme.

:)

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 29, 2008 2:16 AM
Why all this partisan BS? He wants to better America by showing American Government History (Former and Current SOH) in a light where they both agree. Why is everyone so tense, yes we disagree some may disagree with their politics but we arent talking about politics we're talking about saving the earth, and bettering America.

And why is everyone up in arms over Carter going to Syria/Isreal and meeting with Hamas? He can't hurt any; He can't promise anything to Hamas (Iran Contra *cough cough) If he even just shows a good side of America it can only HELP. Yes they are terrorists, but its hard to kill someone you know, its easy to kill people you dont care about and think they are all "western inbreds".

Someone please email me their opinions i want to know what you think about my questions. Thanks

Newt, Newt, Newt...what are you thinking?
Sitting on that bench with Pelosi is on par with Jimmy Carter meeting with Hamas.
(You'd be JC in this analogy.)
MMGW is a big-government tax scheme. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Please stick to the REAL issues.
*The spread of Islamic Terrorism.
*The Mexican Invasion.
*Crippling Taxation.
*The Socilaization of Education and Medicine.
*The need to drill in Anwar and off our coastline.

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson still retains sanity.

See her link on Rush's webpage for an article on the ethenol 'mistake', recognizing the disasterous consequences of Bush's mandate for biofuel development; and her plan to stop it!

Unlike you, Newt, she's got balls!

Newt,

Please send me a request for funding with a no postage required return envelope.

I've gotten lot of requests from the President, the First Lady, John McCain, the Nat'l Rep party, my state's republican party, and the local republican party and other's I don't recall right now.

I just send them some advice in their no postage required envelope. Since they've decided to court Liberals, that's who they need to ask for funding.

I have some advice for you, too. So please mail me a request for money.

By Anonymous @ Monday, April 28, 2008 5:32 PM
Dear Newt,

You are a good man and good men admit mistakes, and your TV ad with Pelosi is a huge mistake.

A leader does not compromise their convictions-a leader leads! If you want to promote “a Green Conservatism that wants to use science, technology, innovation, entrepreneurs, and prizes to find a way to creatively invent the kind of environmental future we all want to live in,” then do so. However, not by agreeing with left wing premises of climate change, or anything else the disciples of big government espouse.

You must add to your Green Conservatism the need to drill for oil, mine for coal, ect., where ever we can find it in this country because it will take years to find the needed break though you promote. Left wing solutions are already leading to food shortages, riots, and food commodities prices are rising with no end in sight.

I am very concerned for the Revolution that Reagan started, and if we are going to win, we must defeat liberalism and agreeing with them is not the way to beat them.

Have you forgotten what the left did to you when you were Speaker? (i.e. "The Newt that Stole Christmas!") Do you not know that they will do the same thing again?

I am respectfully appealing to you reconsider your tactics, because you must know that the left will not; and will fight to the death to win the culture wars.

Respectfully,
Bob Edmunson

P.S. I am looking forward to reading your next book.

Newt, I am so disappointed that someone who teaches and studies history would basically give up the high ground to argue with the village idiot of San Fancisco. You can not win an argument by first giving up and accepting the foundation laid by agenda driven power mongers. I do not think you will be able to recover from this slippery slope you have fallen on.

By Anonymous @ Monday, April 28, 2008 4:50 PM
Mr. Gingrich,

I hope you realize just how many people you have betrayed and disappointed. There may be a handful of comments on here that agree with your actions, but they were submitted by Al Gore and John McCain.

You have just commited treason against the entire conservative movement. Hope you sleep well every night and enjoy your new friends, Mr. Gore and Mr. McCain!!

By Anonymous @ Monday, April 28, 2008 3:28 PM
Newt,

Global Warming the the epitomy of Fear mongering. Oh my God we are going to all die if we don't do something now! And this fear is based on what? Some scientists and Al Gore? Remember for a long time, scientists all agreed the world was flat! It took a non-scientist to prove them wrong. Fear is how Democrates and Liberals want to govern. Make us so fearful that we will give more money, power, and a loss of our liberties to them. And you fell for their fear tactics.

I believe and pray to God and Jesus, not Mother Earth and Al Gore.

By Anonymous @ Monday, April 28, 2008 3:21 PM
Newt,

Before you submit your response, I hope you will take notice that only about 2% of these posts have supported your position. I'm not sure if you see yourself as a representative and will represent us, or if you are like McCain the Maverick who ignores and talks down to us. But we are getting tired of having to lower our standards to "get along" with the Liberals. Why are gas prices high? Liberls won't let us drill in ANWAR and build refineries. Why are corn prices so high and people are starving? Because Liberals want us to not use oil. Why do so many people in Africa starve? Because Liberals wont let us use DDT to kill the mosquitos. Why do people feel their is rampant racism in America? Because Liberals see everything in color, and work to keep us seperated. You have to ask yourself, like we do, WHY would you agree with Liberals about Global Warming? Their track record is an abomination and is destroying the world, and you side with them to"help the deabte". You should stand up to them. If not you, then move aside and let us find someone with the gravitas to do so!

By Anonymous @ Monday, April 28, 2008 3:05 PM
Newt, I am deeply disappointed. Do you have any idea how discouraging it was to listen and watch this video? If I want to partake in the Democrat/liberal agenda, I'd be a Democrat. I don't expect or appreciate having the liberal agenda forced upon me by my own party. Many Washington Republicans have forsaken me, and in return I am forsaking them come November. I'm staying home. You, with Nancy, sealed that deal.

By Anonymous @ Monday, April 28, 2008 2:56 PM
Newt,
I am almost at a loss for words to express my astonishment and disappointment at your lending even the slightest bit of credibility to this farce. Two points I'll make about global warming/cooling/climate change/whatever it's called this year: First, if MMGW is true then the only honest answer is for 75% of the current population to commit suicide, buying some time for the rest...funny, I don't see any hands going up (least of all yours, Nancy's or Algor's). Second, the whole argument became rather moot for me back around 1996 when I read a Nat'l Geographic story by two self-proclaimed GW proponent climate scientists who studied the volcanic eruptions of Mt St Helens 1980, Mt Pinatubo 1991 and Popocatepetl 1994. They were forced, by their own measurements, to conclude that the combined ejected debris-gases,soot,smoke,particulate material, acidic and noxious vapours, etcetera...were roughly equivalent to the entire output by mankind since the Industrial Revolution. And yes, it did have a small but measureable and negative effect on the atmosphere. But the further conclusion was painfully obvious to them: No matter what mankind did to minimize its emissions, another couple eruptions like any of these three would render our efforts useless. And there's nothing we can do to stop it.
Thanks for throwing in with the other side Newt, at least as our team gets smaller it get's easier to recognize each other. Next time you and Nancy should wear Global Marxism Now buttons.

By Anonymous @ Monday, April 28, 2008 12:03 PM
Newt, I have had a great deal of respect for you. You are influential. However, if you want to help this situation, use your influence to convince wimpy Republicans to push for drilling in our own great country. Anwar, Colorado, and many other places have the oil we need, while not compromising the wildlife around the drilling sites. This is the first order of business. Eliminating ethanol as a fuel source will reduce food shortages and high grocery bills. I agree with another comment that was posted, that the surplus corn could be used for fuel, but only if there is a substantial surplus. Corn was designed by our Creator for food. God wants us to use the resources HE created. But he wants it done responsibly. This is biblical. Irresponsibility and waste will lend us to lose all we have.
Please consider these options when you are using your influence.
Thank You, and God Bless America!

I agree Newt, that conservatives are not part of the debate. "Why not?" you may ask. Because according to the global warming alarmists, Al gore especially, the is no room for debate, "The science is settled!". How can you debate with people who refuse to admit that there is even a debatable issue? I'm sorry, Newt, but you missed the boat on this one. The only result from being Middle-of-the-Road is that you get hit by a really big truck! We have to stand up to the hysterical elites who would shove this concept down our throats without so much as the discussion that you so naively think can be enjoined.

By Anonymous @ Monday, April 28, 2008 11:04 AM
Newt, please go on H&C and tell the world that Pelosi's eco-terrorists were holding AK-47s on you off camera, and you had to say this.

Please!

By Anonymous @ Monday, April 28, 2008 2:49 AM
Newt, the reason conservatives are beneath the radar with regards to the climate change debate is primarily because on the face of it... it is a silly, unscientific, non biblical, sophomoric debate.

When there are so many other important issues to tackle... we don't need our quarterback playing catch with the other team.

If you are looking for a debate, try off shore drilling.. anwar.... coal to oil... etc.

We have for too long allowed emotion driven liberals to frame the debate in a sort of... (Do you still beat your Wife?) type of framework. For instance... abortion... Instead of stating abortion is killing a person.. we debate partial birth abortion instead... or age of consent.. when actually we should be re framing the debate to say.. Should we kill unborn humans??

Listen.. I'm not advocating throwing your used oil down the sewer or ridiculous scenarios such as that... Im just saying... I don't give a "Tinker's Damn" about climate change when my energy costs are skyrocketing and the immediate future of my children is at stake...vis a vi... Illegal Immigration... or Energy Independence... or.. a sinking dollar... or Islamic extremism.. or.. get the point?

Back out of this no win debate before you loose so much credibility you become impotent with regards to REAL issues...

God Bless you Newt.

By Anonymous @ Monday, April 28, 2008 2:24 AM
Newt,
You said, “Conservatives are missing from this debate, and I think that's a mistake.”
I believe you are wrong on that point and here’s why.
For the last two years, on your “Winning the Future” site, the ethanol debate was discussed in length. (It was my contention then, as it is now, that jeopardizing our food supply for energy gains was foolish without securing our food supply first. That’s why I proposed the USDA return to a Congressionally mandated, privatized, food reserve and then rotate unused commodities into value added products like ethanol.)
And now here we are, facing higher food prices and hearing about food shortages in various parts of the world, primarily because of ethanol production.

Two years ago the debates were separate, one about energy independence and the other about global warming.

Now the debate is one, set by the liberal left on how to ‘save’ our planet, by reducing our footprint and mandating cleaner burning fuels. And the only reason the two issues have become one, is the price of food.
Any Conservative can follow this logic to it’s liberal end, and see that ‘personal freedoms’ and ‘populations’ must be ‘controlled’ in order to ‘save’ the planet.
Conservatives ‘are’ participating in the debate by rejecting this silly notion.
Conservatives ‘are’ thinking with logic about today’s problems that we ‘can’ solve, not with emotion about possible problems fifty years down the road that ‘might’ happen.
Conservatives are participating in this debate, and with a growing voice, ‘your just leaning too far to the left to hear them.’
Make America energy dependent.
Secure our borders and our freedoms.
Reduced government spending and debt.
Secure our food supply.
Once our house is in order, then lets worry about trivial things, like predicting what the weather will be in fifty years.
What this country needs is a Conservative leader that will step up to the plate…
Hyrum Laney

By zlegatoz @ Sunday, April 27, 2008 11:59 PM
CONSIDER THIS

. . . the current effect of ethanol on the economy . . .

It is becoming abundantly clear that the forced use of corn for ethanol is driving up prices on almost everything. It was enacted in part because of a lack of political will from our side to say "NO" this is bad.

We didn't sufficiently engage on the issue. We can expect more of the same. Now, I ask you, which is more important (?):

Driving food and transportation prices up to a level where they REALLY hurt people?

Or the notion that Newt has sold out?

In response to the comment about the Bible containing words from God that we should live a simple life...take care of each other...blah, blah, blah

You and Nancy Pelosi obviously have the Mother Earth Bible.

I have read the Holy Bible all the way through every year since 1989 and I can assure you there is nothing in there about living a simple life. A holy life, yes, a simple life, no. There are many things that God states are evil, some abominable. Liberals cherish most all of those abominations.

You might be surprised to learn that the Bible says this world is going up in fire, God will create a new heaven and a new earth and only those who have trusted Christ as their savior will be inhabiting this new world. Genesis explains the beginning and the need for a savior. Setting the stage for his coming takes up the rest of the Old Testament. The New Testament details that coming, the sacrifice he made for those who choose him, the work of preparing the world for his return and the end of the world as we know it.

Don't be twisting the word of God around to justify your maniacal and dangerous philosophies.

By Anonymous @ Sunday, April 27, 2008 11:02 PM
Hi Newt,

I am reading all of these hate filled emails about you selling out, etc.. and it could not be farther from the truth. You are taking the middle road in a world that has become so politically polar. To even be seen as thinking of the possibility of climate change as being a possible decline to the world (which many credible scientists think, as you know), the people usually on your side are directing their anger and hate toward you and some appear to be ready to crucify you. You have great courage for your efforts in trying to bridge the gap between the two complete opposite opinions in which the truth, at the very minimal appears to me to be somewhere in the middle. People are listening to you and the improvement and saving of the world from our unclean fuel problem may owe some of its credit to you in the end. If we can wake up.

Thanks for being the mouthpiece for the 'Radical Middle"

A comical and entertaining diversion of the effect of the powerful effects of a lie; imagine it on a less comical and more global level, and you have a taste-- http://watchthesimpsonsonline.com/movie/389-913_The_Joy_of_Sect.html

*sigh* So predictable-- now you can see, former Speaker, you have the extreme left supporting you; your work is complete. I have received my first criticism from some anonymous leftist mocking my love for God's Word, and doing what they do best: judging my heart, and, playing God, deciding I am without compassion and care for humanity. Liberalism is the true ignorance of the day, along with all of its heart judgment and lack of reason. I have been told today I should care(because I'm told I don't because somehow they know my heart and life). Gingrich has bowed to the FEAR OF THE TIMES. NO different than the otherwise rational, freedom loving judge in the 1600's who, because of the MADNESS of the Salem witch trials, succumbs to the POPULAR idealism concerning witchcraft versus Christianity, sends innocent lives to death; only, in this case Newt sends American economy and sanity to death. We must always observe the UNIVERSAL TRUTH---

TRUTH--- is relaxed, and is never in a hurry to reveal itself, waiting patiently for folks with a rational mind to absorb it, usually on an individual basis.

LIES---always hurried(SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE NOW OR ALL IS LOST; LIMITED TIME ONLY; THIS OFFER EXPIRES SOON!!!!), it depends on "consensus"; knowing its short life span, a lie must have immediate response(always based on emotion), or it will be EXPOSED. Also, to effect paranoia and false guilt, and thus the immediate response needed, a lie MUST do its best to accuse ANY non-believer in said lie to be a DENIER; INFIDEL, HERETIC, who must either conform or be ELIMINATED. Nice work Newtie.

Not that it will penetrate your kool-aid laced head; but maybe readers of this post will check it out.

Steyn's recent columns on 'climate change' madness are very insightful and entertaining.

By Anonymous @ Sunday, April 27, 2008 8:38 PM
I am disappointed in your appearance with the current speaker on an issue that is not proven to be true or the fault of mankind. While we all can do things to not spoil our environment the tact taken is one to convince to people to buy into the premise we should start paying directly to improve the environment. I believe the free enterprise system this country has been founded on will do the best job at the best price. To be spouting the rhetoric that calls for obvious government subsidies is not the way to go. Currentlly, with gasoline topping out at $120 a barrel we still don't have a solution that can be done cheaper. Especially without effecting prices of all food stuff internationally.

Stand for controlling the environment if you must, but not at my expense. Fight to allow domestic oil fields be broadened and to expand off-shore drilling. To not do that is to force our dollars to be going to our enemies (yes, they are) and then used in the war against us. Bring down the price of oil and then I'd support grants to independent developers of alternative fuels. All with a "success clause" that would indeed recoup the expense, with interest, etc. Think of Gator-ade. That was developed with minor, be it direct, government expense. Now look at the energy drink market and what the public is willing to pay for bottled water. Works out to more than a gallon of gas, but we can't drink as much as our vehicles.

And what is the incentive for many municipalities to reduce the cost of energy. They're able to push up rates, with built in profit margins, based on their expense.

Our country was built on the belief in our ability to use our resources wisely. What's happened, with Political Correctness and Environmental Tree Hugging, is halting all use and not able to take advantage of the new technologies available. And then have a negative balance of trade based on the need to go elsewhere for our needs. Coupled with our outsourcing of manufacturing there's little wonder true Americans can see the day we're exploited by the rest of the world and reduced to little more than a haven for immigrants, with emphasis on the illegals coming in.

Environmentalism, Liberalism, Socialism, Communism and fascism have little difference when it comes to controlling our lives and restricting our freedoms.

By Anonymous @ Sunday, April 27, 2008 8:31 PM
As a college student in the early 70's I was brain-washed to believe that we were destroying the environment and none of us were going to be around much longer. The big lie threat then was 'a new ice age'.

Almost 40 years later, this has reared its ugly head again, but of course we're not making ice now, we're melting it. Unfortunately, the lunatics, who were fringe in the 70's are now in positions of power in the government and throughout public education.

So, sadly, we are seeing a food crisis that will kill people created by a phoney need for biofuels.

Don't look for the loonies to accept any responsibility for that.

A few green idea's for everyone:
1) take a cloth bag to the store instead of getting plastic bags
2) recycle
3) Car pool as often as possible
4) If it is yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down
5) Ride your bike to work
6) Email instead of writing a letter
7) Instead of buying bottled water, buy a water filter.
8) Install a programmable thermostat - it can save up to 25% on home heating and cooling bills
9) buy food from local farmers
10) Keep your car properly inflated
I believe if all of us commit to this we can truly make a difference. I hope everyone has a green day!

By Anonymous @ Sunday, April 27, 2008 7:48 PM
EARP, I'm glad you can quote the bible to support your believes. But I am pretty sure the bible talks about living a simple life and caring about others. Caring for the environment, which is what Newt was advocating, accomplishes those two things. God bless America.

I agree with you zlegatoz. All the people who are calling Newt names and talking about how he is a rhino are FOOLS! It is amazing to me that a guy who has done more for conservatives since Regan can get thrown out for just one issue. Not only that, Newt's ideas to solve that one issue are market based not government based. You people need to read what Newt has said about energy independence and the environment. Click in the ON THE ISSUES link, it is not that hard. I am thankful for Newts leadership.

We're going to throw Newt under the bus. Without other articulate conservatives making the case out there, here is a list of everything else we've decided to hand over to the left to "fix:"

- Terrorism
- Taxes
- Education

- Immigration
- Health Care
- The Economy
- The Expulsion of Religion from the Public Square
- Government Reform

Enjoy.

To "Anonymous @ Saturday, April 26, 2008 8:11 PM"-- I wish I could meet you and shake your hand for a brilliant comment. This is a feeble effort to follow along in the same light, I will do my best-- My comment would be that since the federal government seems to take great pleasure in taxing our dead parents for the assets they have worked all their lives to pass on to us and have ALREADY PAID TAXES ON THEMSELVES, it seems only fair that we should be able to have their carbon credits passed on to us as well, with a proper federal gouging of course, as, just as 'anonymous' has earned more credits than any RINO or lear jet liberal EVER will, my parents lived very much the same lives, having air conditioning in the home for a little over 15 years now, and gor their first car with working A/C in the early 80s. Their childhood also consisted of corncobs for personal cleansing after use of the outhouse, and so forth. Simply put, I am requesting carbon credits that are inheritable, since asking for reason and logic to be reinstated to our federal government seems too much to ask, the perfect example of federal madness being the biofuel idiocy, where the government has shown itself to be more concerned about corn feeding a car than a family. Price of food escalates today(government made problem), rationing of food tomorrow(government made solution). “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

Gen.8:22 KJV

If only American government regarded God and His Word would we no longer see how "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" Romans 1:22 KJV

Newt; the bitter reality here is that a 'solo' ad; just stating your 'Overview' would have accomplished what you offer as your intended goal here in sharing this statement of purpose with Speaker Pelosi.

Instead. . . and worse. . .during a critical Election; you are seated with a Republican arch-enemy; and by extension, the ENTIRE Marxist hierarchy of the Democrat Party.

This is not bringing Republican's into the 'debate'. It IS a blurring of your vision for America - and as well, the vision of every good Republican and 'Reason-capable' citizen - with the frightening spectre that the 'Left' would have America become.

We are dealing with world-class Marxists; and there is no way and no REASON, for you to imagine that on this or any issue of substance; that we can all, 'just get along'.

IMHO; implying that we are on any one of 'their pages' is a huge mistake. Hamas got some 'ligitimacy miles' from Carter; you have given the same to America's radical Left. . .the Party that wants 'collective ownership' of every citizen; can now quote/recall Newt; when it comes to THEIR Environmental Ways and Means efforts to accomplish their goal.

Whatever your intentions; they will make short work of it. . .and the everyday citizen-voter will only remember that there is less and less to distinguish Republican Values - from the Left's core beliefs.

Unless you have a much better reason than that you have sold out the conservative principles that I thought you lived by. Have looked up to you for years, but no more. By the way you are old enough to remember the supposed coming of the ice age?? Wasn't that in the 70's. Is there a conservative leader left in Washington or have they all sold out.

By Anonymous @ Sunday, April 27, 2008 1:27 AM
Newt Gingrich and Pat Robertson are 'useful idiots." Nancy Pelosi is a Marxist, so, of course she would promote this hoax foisted upon us in order to impose global Marxism. You failed to win the cold war by force, now you seek to achieve your goals by propaganda. You want government to control every aspect of our lives. You seek a society of lowered expectations and mass distribution of misery, except of course for the intelligentsia. The new energy efficient light bulbs which will soon be mandated are a perfect metaphor for your "green" solutions-- they are very dim and very toxic!! Then, you can point to your wonderful state subsidized ethanol which is already attributing to a world wide food crisis and soon to come wars.
Having lived 58 years on this planet, I can recall the threat of a new ice age. There was consensus! I can say that this man made global warming garbage is the biggest hoax of my life time, followed closely by the lies that we are running out of oil and that nuclear power is too dangerous.
I just lived through the coldest winter in 100 years in Iowa. We are experiencing freezing temperatures in the end of April. We have had three consecutive years of declining temperatures and two years with zero hurricanes!!
Newt reponds that he appears with witch Nancy because we conservatives need to come to the table. Only an idiot or an addict (to media attention?) comes to the table when the game is rigged. You don't debate a hoax by accepting the premise Mr professor Gingrich, useful idiot!

By Anonymous @ Saturday, April 26, 2008 9:08 PM
Newt,
I used to really respect you, but not anymore. Now you have just given legitimacy to the whole global warming lie. We can't sit at the table with people who won't change their minds. They only want us to change our minds. That will not happen for all of us who are true conservatives. We are tired of our so-called leaders giving in to liberals. We've watched it with taxes, social programs, illegal immigration, education, etc & now the global warming hoax. I could go on. Please get your backbone back & stand up to liberals. All republican leaders need to get their backbones back & lead us, not follow liberals. With all this giving in to liberals, people will not be brought into the conservative fold since they don't see any differences. We need more conservatives if we expect this country to survive.

Hey fellow conservatives, meet Hillary the Hawk! She is our girl! Forget Newt, forget McCain, forget the RINOs. They've certainly forgotten us.

Hillary is talking our talk!

Newt you have gone to the dark side!

By Anonymous @ Saturday, April 26, 2008 8:34 PM
I wondered why you did the ad, and your explanation doesn't explain it. By doing the ad it looks to me as if you are endorsing every lie Al (the almighty) Gore has told the world. Has anyone ever considered that most of our temperature readings are from big metropolitan areas. Being from Minnesota, the twin cities are just about always 10-15 degrees warmer than outstate in the winter and no one seems to be able to figure out that this blows. But they use it to say we are warming. Its all a bunch of BS and that doesn't stand for my Bachelor of Science degree, which is a lot more scientific than all you idiots with your liberal arts degree because you couldn't pass scientific classes, better for you to take subjective classes like English and Phsycology, where brown nosing goes a long way. Please don't e-mail me except to respond to this, any others I will consider trash, GREEN trash.

By Anonymous @ Saturday, April 26, 2008 8:22 PM
I won't call you stupid, your not a stupid man. You know as well as anyone that global warming is total fraud. So how much of the "action" did they cut you in for? Please tell us Newt, when we all have to start paying three times as much for energy because you sold us out, what is your percentage?

By Anonymous @ Saturday, April 26, 2008 8:21 PM
Let's face it folks. There are no conservatives left in Washington. More and more it does look like Hillary is our girl.

After all, when you think about it, during Bill's presidency, they were kept so busy dealing with consequences of their illegal activities, they couldn't really advance any agenda. I don't think it would be very different now.

And if someone is going to screw up the country and have it rain down on their heads, who better than the Democrats.

We don't have a candidate in this fight. I say let's elect all the conservative legislators that we can. And vote for Hillary. She'd be better than John McCain, who has made a career of screwing conservatives.

Rino survivors in Washington didn't learn a thing when conservatives didn't support Republicans in 2006.

At least Democrats seem to be smart enough "to dance with them that brought 'em'".

By Anonymous @ Saturday, April 26, 2008 8:11 PM
Hey Newt,

Now that you're gonna be helping out the carbon credit folks and I'm sure they'll give you a big important position from which to launch your 'debate'; so I want you to put my name down for a gazillion carbon credits and I'd like to exchange them for cash, please.

You see, I'm the daughter of a northwest Florida dirt farmer, born in the 50's, growing up in the 60's. And I sure as heck did my part for the planet.

My daddy plowed his 80 acres of ground with a mule; and my siblings and I were the labor force for chopping and picking that cotton and stacking those peanuts onto very tall haystacks. I'm talking earliest memories were of riding on my daddy's cotton sack as he drug it down the row. Worst memories--having to look down a long, long cotton row and know I wasn't getting a drink of water till I got to the end.

I remember when my mama got to retire the wood cook stove; must have been about '56 or '57. So we were all about those renewable resources long after the rest of you energy gluttons were swilling from the trough of our nonrenewable resources, with no remorse and a superior attitude, I might add!

And water, forget about it! We had a hand pump at the kitchen sink until about 1960, when we got a symblance of plumbing. (But only in the kitchen, I must add. Yeah, we had that little old out-house out back and if you were female you used that and wiped your hiney with a page from the Sears and Roebuck catalog. (Take that, Sheryl Crow, and shut up!) If you were male, you went off into the woods, where you had a stash of corncobs to clean up with. Talk about recycling!

My mama would heat water for doing the laundry in a big, black iron pot, after building a wood fire under it. And after the laundry was done, she took that water and scrubbed our lineoleum and raw pine floors.
The water would just drain right out through the cracks in the floor.

Our baths consisted of a pot of water heated on the stove and a wash rag. Try that sometime. But in the summer, there was the creek! How green my life has been!

And heating; man, we were tough. We had a fireplace in my early years that would sort of heat one room. Needless to say, we wore most of our clothing most of the time in the winter. Later we got a wood stove and it did heat the one room pretty decently.

Air conditioning? Well, we lived in the country, didn't even have locks on our doors or windows, so whatever breeze mother nature was kind enough to bestow on us, was all ours. But I'm here to tell you Mother Earth worshippers; she ain't always kind.

Happily to say, though decades have gone by since those happy days, I remain poor and a habitual recycler and save or natural resources.

So, as you can see my formative years alone earned me enough carbon credits, that after ya'll subtract out what Oprah and Algore and Nancy Pelosi and all you other big wigs, with your 10,000 sq. ft. houses and your private jets, and million dollar cars (thanks Simon Cowell; didn't know there was such a thing ), have used up and ya'll cough up the cost of those, you will have plenty of funding to reward me for my 'green life' and all my sacrafices made to save those nonrenewable resources and I think ya'll owe me about $10,000,000.00 more or less.

I'm awaiting your promised response.
I'm so glad I've got a dog in this fight! Go Newt!

By Anonymous @ Saturday, April 26, 2008 6:38 PM
I haven't heard you debating about this. Actually, I haven't heard you say ANYTHING about the speciousness of anthropogenic global warming. What the heck? You say there's an important debate going on right now... You're in the camp of those who say, foolishly, "the debate is over".

I'd NEVER want to be in a foxhole with you!

By Anonymous @ Saturday, April 26, 2008 5:57 PM
I just wish Newt was from my state so I could get the pleasure of voting for a real yellow dog instead of a phoney, baloney one.

By Anonymous @ Saturday, April 26, 2008 5:53 PM
Bernard Goldberg has nailed it! Crazies to the Left of me; Wimps to the Right of me is exactly how I've felt since we elected a (R) president, sentate and congress in 2000 and have had to watch them capitulate endlessly to the Democrats.

Can any one explain this to me? We handed them the country and now they've all gone over to the dark side.

You, and the rest, Newt will be judged for what you did and did not do while you held the reins of power.

What you have done is say 'Sure, you're right. How can we help you achieve your goals?' to the Liberals.

What you have not done is to advance one inch in a conservative direction. I, myself, would not want to stand before the Almighty (as I think you believe we all will some day) and say, 'Yes, I was in a very powerful position in the most powerful nation on the face of the earth that killed a disabled woman, because she was incapable of getting her own water. I stood by with all the others while a huge armed force guarded the facility she was imprisioned in to make sure no-one slipped in so much as a drop.

Where are we going? Are there no men of courage in this generation?

God have mercy on us all.

Newt,
I challenge you to investigate the lack of science supporting the hysteria of "global warming". Temps have gone down .7 degrees in 2007 and we have had historically cold events like snow in Bagdad. Our very slow and not historically hi temp changes are linked to solar activity and not CO2. We may soon even have a global cooling problem and right now we have a corn and fuel price crisis that needs immediate attention. Dirll more, expedite nuclear plants, build more refineries. eliminate boutique fuels, national plan to distribute H2 and subsidize H2 cars both development and purchase. I was a qualified as a nuclear engineer and studied Oceanography as an under grad, so have some background in this field.

Mr Speaker
What makes you believe that any global warming is man-made? I am a practicing experimental researcher in physics and i have not seen any convincing evidence for such. The published conversation on this subject is not scientific debate. This fiasco is tarnishing the good name of science and the casualty will be the ability of science to impact public policy. Your conversation with Ms. Pelosi does not help. I agree we need to be "on the stage" with these people. But our position ought to be to oppose bad science, not to agree with a bad premise and try to mitigate damage.

She has underminded the president's efforts in every single front against terrorism. The respect that I had for you has vanished!

Newt, you've stated that the reason you made the video w/ Pelosi is "to engage in the debate and to communicate our position clearly..." yet the WeCanSolveIt.org website posts "Our ultimate aim is to halt global warming"! If it hasn't been determined that man is causing global warming, how can man stop it!!! Come on Newt, you are smarter than that...

By Anonymous @ Saturday, April 26, 2008 12:52 AM
People on both sides of the fence are complaining about whether or not the whole Global Warming topic is a marketing gimick or not. I don't believe most of it but here is a different way of looking at it. Gas prices have been the highest ever seen. So what if we could improve our mpg? What if, rather than looking at it as contributing toward Global Warming, we could reduce emissions by 80%? View this website...it really works: www.icareaboutit.com/9158710

By Nanny53 @ Friday, April 25, 2008 10:42 PM
Newt I am so disappointed in you taking up anything with one of the worst socialist in our country. It is getting where there is no such thing as a Republican anymore. You just let them know that they have won the this global warming garbage. Why can't our party be strong and stand up to those socialists? Geezzz what is our country becoming?

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 10:12 PM
It may be that you have Global Warming in Washington or is it hot air. Come to Minnesota. It's the end of April and we are in the midst of an ICE AGE. Go Figure!

Actually, Global Warming is all about Marketing. You couldn't sell wind mills and ethanol along with huge subsequent subsides without a cause. That's where Global Warming comes in.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 9:47 PM
Newt: How could you join with Nancy Pelosi and make the people believe the Republican party has fallen in with the false belief in the Global warming. Once again the Republican party shoots itself in the foot.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 9:32 PM
There is already a conservative view on climate change-that it is a normal and natural part of nature and history proves this. To join forces with Nancy Pelosi is insanity. We have crazy environmentalists threatening to throw their bodies in front of equipment used to build a border fence. These people are insane, and to even acknowledge them or their views as factual or reasonable is insanity as well

I have always had great respect for you, but I confess to be confused on this ad. The ad makes it seem as if you support the conclusions of Al and his cartoons. It is only after reading your posting on this site that I realize you don't support these things. Did it not occur to you the impression that the ad would create and the damage that it would do. This is akin to an erroneous front page story correct by a next day article on page 57.

I fully agree with doing sensible things to eliminate pollution, but require more knowledge before destroying the world economy with worthless actions. I'm afraid your ad will allow many far left folks to note "of course the debate is over even Newt agrees".

Please get out there and make your views more known!

Ann Coulter has it right. If we only knew what the elites really think. If several hundreds of millions of us commoners just have to starve because the 'climate change' lunatics are burning up our food for energy---well, that will just be more resources for the 'chosen' ones.

They resent the air we 'non-elites' breathe.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 7:33 PM
We are on the verge of a global tragedy, summed up in the characteristically smug bumper sticker Mona spotted the other day: "Don't burn fuel. Grow it." The ecochondriacs abetted by the likes of Senator Grassley have taken subsistence crops and made them part of the energy market. No good can come of that, only vast human misery. It's the oldest conservative lesson: The real problem isn't the "problem" but the Big Government solution to it.

By Gatorwest @ Friday, April 25, 2008 7:29 PM

1) We have an obligation to be good stewards of God’s creation for future generations. (95 to 3)
2) We can have a healthy economy and a healthy environment. (73 to 18)
3) We can solve our environmental problems faster and cheaper with innovation and new
technology than with more litigation and more government regulation. (79 to 15)
4) Entrepreneurs are more likely to solve America’s energy and environmental problems than
bureaucrats. (72 to 18)
5) If we use technology and innovation and incentives we do not need to raise taxes to clean
up our environment. (68 to 29)
6) We support giving tax credits to companies that cut carbon emissions as an incentive to
cut pollution. (76 to 21)
7) We want to encourage businesses to voluntarily cut pollution and give them financial
incentives to do this but, if necessary, we will require them to do so. (66 to 25)
8) We should give tax credits to homeowners and builders who incorporate alternative
energy systems in their homes, like solar, wind, and geothermal energy. (90 to 8)
9) We support offering tax credits for people who turn in older, high-polluting cars. (68 to 27)
10) Climate change and global warming are probably happening. (82 to 13)
11) We support building more nuclear power plants to cut carbon emissions. (65 to 28)
12) We should hold city governments to the same standards for cleaning waste water as are
applied to private industry. (91 to 5)
13) We are prepared to use public funds to preserve green space and parks to protect natural
areas from development but especially with public and private partnerships. (81 to 15)

After all, she pretended to quote the Bible to enforce her "green" views, when what she said is nowhere to be found in the Bible. The radical environmentalists are preventing our oil companies from drilling oil right here on our soil, and instead trying to force ethanol on us, which is causing soaring food prices, food shortatges, and gas prices. You and Nancy said you didn't agree on much, but that you did "agree" on environment..and no specifics were mentioned!

Red white and blue surely beats being beaten black and blue by Dems on the environment. I love the idea of prizes for innovation. Too many ideas have originated here in the US (transistors, Demming's Total Quality, and HD TV to name a few) that others have exploited for their country's benefit. It is time for the creativity of the US to be exploited for the benefit of the US. If it takes being seen with Pelosi to get us moving in the right direction to benefit from US creativity then this was a very creative move. Well done!

Mr. Speaker,
I have long admired you and your common sense small government attitudes but I think you are wrong on this one.

All the thought on the Democratic side on this and other issues seems to center around adding government regulation, power and taxation.

Don't you really believe that if we reduced regulation, taxes and other government interference, we would be able to supply more oil, refine more oil, and do it for less money. We also could promote and support other energy sources as they become more viable. Making an energy source viable shouldn't mean artificially raising the prices of other energy, it should mean doing strong R+D until it can compete in the free marketplace

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 3:45 PM
Newt,

What or who is the force behind blocking innovation? Take the internal combustion engine for instance. Why haven't we found a better alternative yet?

What about the compressed air car?
http://www.theaircar.com/acf/

What about a combination of technologies leveraging solar, battery, hydrogen, compressed air, etc?

Global Warming is a myth, but dependence on foreign oil is not. What do we need to do to move past the internal combustion engine?

Mr. Gingrich,
I learned years ago in business that the only people who say "let's just suppose you are right" have actually run out of supportive facts for their argument.
That is not the case here. The Global Climate Change myth is built entirely upon speculation and "Research". The "Research dollar is NEVER spent on proving that things are OK as is, or even improving. No, the "Research" dollar ALWAYS pays for conclusions that require MORE "Research" dollars.
The facts by themselves tear down this scam, but there is no money in reporting good news. There is no transfer of wealth to other countries unless we have caused something terrible.
A man armed with facts and common sense will ALWAYS defeat ideas that are not grounded in fact. I guess it is just easier for you to go along. Too bad.
I am REALLY fed up with the so-called "Compassionate Conservatives", from G.W. Bush on down, that feel it necessary to "reach across the aisle" and "compromise" on silly, feel good schemes that just waste taxpayer money. The Liberal definition of Compromise is to fold completely to the liberal causes and needs. That is NOT going to change just because you and Nancy made a "We're just One Big Happy Family" commercial.
I have the utmost respect for you, sir, but I really expected more than this from you.

Respectfully,
Bill Eldred

Lucky us, we have three Democrates to run for President, and RINOs like you to support them. Thanks for nothing.

Newt, I have to admit I was aghast when I first saw the ad w/Pelosi. You are a towering intellect of your generation, and I couldn't imagine what was going through your head. So, I appreciate you releasing the statement. I respect your opinion and reasoning, but I still disagree with your decision to do the ad.
The democrats are committed to the anthropogenic global warming nonsense, and many, like Al Gore have declared the debate to be 'over.' I do not believe it is possible to have a reasoned debate with them, when they are simply not interested in the facts to the contrary of agw, nor balancing environmental concerns with our nations economic best interests.
For you to appear in an ad w/Pelosi gave the whole notion of anthropogenic global warming validity, at a time in which evidence is mounting to the opposite...that we may actually be heading into a mini ice-age rivaling that of the mid-1800s.
We are witnessing a dangerous convergence of issues nationally and internationally. Our economy is faltering because of high oil prices, a destabilization of the dollar against foreign currency, and our enemies continued sabor rattling. Pelosi and her minions are preparing to mandate renewable energy at a price tab in the trillions. If a dem gets the white house, we are in for a major tax hike. The notion of agw needs to be defeated on its face.
I appreciate the need to 'reach across the isle' to try and accomplish something. But where did it get Bush? He made a serious attempt to 'change the tone' in D.C. in his first term, only to have them turn on him and basically spit in his face. The dems are not interested in compromise or in carefully examining both sides of this issue, or what's best for this country. They want only one thing...to hold on to their power.
All that having been said, I still have the utmost respect, and will continue to follow your activities closely.

Global warming contradicts what the Bible teaches us. No where in the Bible does it say Global Warming will destroy the earth. co2 is needed for plant growth which in turn human and animals need oxygen and food from plants to survive. When we release oil and coil from the earth's surface it produces c02 which is good for the enviroment. It's God's Natural Law.

I set forth a principled comment this morning. Why hasn't it been posted?

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 2:16 PM
Newt,
You lost control of the conversation when you joined their club. You gave tacit support to their presuppositions regarding both human generated climate change and the necessity for government to solve the problem for us. The former is far from certain and the latter is dangerous. Neither reflect a conservative or rational view. Stewardship is not a function of hysteria. We could certainly use government to make changes easier such as nuclear power, ground-source heating and cooling, and advanced fuel technologies through tax and regulatory policies but not as mandates. Don't lose control of your message by being associated with a different, inferior one.

Newt,

I am just appalled that you have given over your name to this Global warming fraud.

What a worthless argument you've put forth that you HAVE to join them to fight them. Last time I heard it, it went , IF you CAN'T beat'em, join them.

You say 'you don't think' there is conclusive proof of global warming or human involvement. As worded, it sounds like you actually believe both propositions. Unbelievable!

Have you not looked at the well documented counter reports and analysis?

The most recent climate study indicates a drop in global temperature in the full calendar 2007 of .65 to .75 degrees C REVERSING the LAST 100 YEARS of temperature increase. In one year, 100 years erased and this while CO2 is higher.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 2:07 PM

Dear Newt,

I have long respected you and your contributions to the Republican Party and the conservative movement. No more.

Global warming as a crisis is the biggest fraud of our age and a disgrace to any one with a brain. Acceptance of the "global warming is a crisis" view is a natural for Democrats (i.e. welfare state socialists) because they are under the thumb of the radical environmentalists who view progress as a threat to the earth. Global warming measures will do more to limit economic growth, scientific progress, and the condition of the world's poor than anything currently being contemplated. It is a gigantic wedge for a massive increase in government power, particularly world government power.
The unintended consequence of these misguided proposals will, in reality, deprive us of the ability to adequately address real environmental problems in the future.

What is amazing is how little the public knows about the actual science of global warming. For example, a critical question is what is the current temperature of the earth and how does it stack up historically?

While a lot has been said on the issue by bloviating politicians and far-left environmental organizations, who, as the late economist Aaron Wildavsky observed, view GW as the mother of all fundraising opportunities, the science does not support their hyperbole. The science is, in fact, fairly straightforward to those who take the time to examine the scientific literature, rather than what passes for journalism these days.

For thousands of years, the temperature of the earth has tracked within a range of about three degrees Celsius (or more, depending on the specific region of the earth being examined). We have arguably reliable land-based temperature records from the mid-19th century forward. For the period prior to 1850, we are dependent upon ice core samples and a variety of other proxy records, including tree rings, seabed sediments, boreholes, stalagmites and pollen.

Probably the most significant ice core studies were conducted in 1983 by climate paleontologists Willi Dansgaard and Hans Oeschger, whose samples from the Greenland ice sheet reconstructed 250,000 years of climate history. A similar ice core sample on Antarctica’s Vostok Glacier a few years later revealed a 400,000 year temperature record. Both studies revealed a 1,500-year cycle of moderate warmings and coolings which have tracked quite closely with the variations in solar activity. These findings of the historic temperature record have been replicated by hundreds of proxy studies in all parts of the world.

Viewed from an historical perspective which specifically examines the past 1000 years, the temperature of the Sargasso Sea, for example, has ranged from a high of about 24 degrees Celsius reached during the Medieval Warm Period (900-1350 A.D.) to a low of about 22 degrees C during the Little Ice Age, which extended from about 1350 to 1850.
For the people in the northern hemisphere, for example, the history of these two eras reveals striking differences in the quality of life, including health, economic prosperity and creativity. The continent of Greenland was substantially warmer than it is today and supported Viking colonization and farming. By the mid-14th century, the Viking settlements had all disappeared as a prolonged era of cold made the continent uninhabitable. The subsequent cold era in Europe was marked by increased hunger, plagues, and malaria epidemics (which are not confined to tropical regions). Comparatively speaking, it wasn’t a pleasant time to be alive, particularly for the vast majority of the world’s poor.

For the past 150 years, the northern hemisphere has been, fortuitously, emerging from this prolonged cold spell. Since 1850 temperatures have risen about .8 degrees C, bringing us to a level which approximates the average of the past 3,000 years (i.e. 23 degrees C). When George Washington and his troops camped at Valley Forge, for example, it was colder than it had been for 1,500 years, yet it was just 1 degree C below the 3,000 year average. It is from this climatic trough that we have been emerging over the past 200-odd years.

The temperature record of the 20th century is, in fact, quite unremarkable from an historical perspective. Yet, global warming alarmists would have you believe that a .8 degree C rise in the past 150 years, coming at the end of the Little Ice Age, is cause for panic. They blame it on greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide, and call for draconian reductions in CO2 emissions. In the current election cycle, politicians pandering to the environmental movement call for 70%, 80% (do I hear more?) reductions in CO2 emissions, which, while having no demonstrable effect on climate, will undoubtedly create massive harm to both the U.S. and world economies.

Part of this alarm is the human tendency, fueled by an irresponsible media, to get caught up in the events of the moment. Thus, a temporary heat wave becomes a permanent condition and a portend of things to come.
This "presentist" mindset lacks the historical perspective and a sense of proportion necessary for rational thinking and problem-solving.

The leader of this cult, Al Gore, has gone so far as to falsify the temperature record in his propaganda film “An Inconvenient Truth” in order to provide a basis for these drastic measures. His temperature graph is based on Michael Mann’s now thoroughly debunked “Hockey stick” representation of climate history which falsely shows a relatively flat temperature record until the late 20th century when it spikes upwards. Not only did Mann misrepresent the peaks and valleys of the past 1000 years, but Al Gore’s graph added the results of dubious global circulation models (GCMs) to extend the actual temperature record into the future. Yet, it is an example of what happens when a buffoon like Al Gore plays with science.

As a real scientist, M.I.T.’s Richard Lindzen, has observed, "future generations will wonder in bemused amazement that the early 21st century's developed world went into hysterical panic over a globally averaged temperature increase of a few tenths of a degree and, on the basis off gross exaggerations of highly uncertain computer projections combined into implausible chains of inference, proceeded to contemplate a roll-back of the industrial age."

Indeed, these GCMs, while interesting experimental tools, were never intended to provide the basis for government policy. But that was before the popular media, looking for scary scenarios, got a hold of the highly dubious results, and prompted the politicians to “save the planet” (and guarantee their own re-election in the process).

There is now increasing evidence that CO2 has very little to do with global temperatures and that it is, in reality, a lagging indicator of rising temperatures by as much as 800 years. This is what the Greenland and Vostok ice core samples, and hundreds of other studies have revealed.

CO2 is a minor greenhouse gas, comprising no more than .038% of our atmosphere (the largest being nitrogen at 78%). Measured in terms of the length of a football field, CO2 would represent just 1.36 inches (out of 3,600). Much of this has to do with the gradual release of CO2 from the oceans in the period since the last Ice Age. Moreover the “CO2 causes global warming” theory is refuted by the experience of the 20th century. While temperatures rose by about one-third of a degree in the period from 1900-1940, when CO2 levels were relatively modest, they actually dropped from 1940 to 1970 when CO2 experienced a dramatic increase in the post-war economic buildup. From 1970 to 2000, temperatures rose about .11 degrees per decade, but have leveled off since 1998. Thus, it is only during the period 1970-2000 that temperatures and CO2 have shown a coincidental correlation. From 1900-1970 no such correlation exists, nor, might I add, do they in any prior eras of human history, when temperature reflected the natural 1500-year cycles, oblivious to the effects of man.

Al Gore and the global warming extremists have it all wrong. All the scary scenarios they describe, including dramatic sea level rise, species extinction, extreme weather events, have all been disproven by the evidence. Example: Gore predicts that sea levels will rise by 20-feet by the year. All reliable scientific studies predict a rise of 7 inches per hundred years, the same of level of increase we have experienced since the end of the last Ice Age.
Species extinction? Also, not a problem, at least not from so-called global warming.

Al Gore likes to pretend that he is on the side of science and the environment. In reality, he is profoundly stupid man who, despite any background in science (except a "D" in earth science), is doing a gross injustice to the field by politicizing it. He once obviously saw it as the white horse he was going to ride into the White House. Now, he seeks further inflation of his ego as the world's savior. And he was helped along in that regard by five socialist Norwegian politicians who know nothing about climatology.

Standing firm against this global warming as crisis crowd is essential if we are to address the genuine challenges of the future from a rational and scientific perspective, applying our limited resources, as Bjorn Lomborg, has suggested, to the most serious problems.

Newt, please recant of your foolish dalliance with misguided utopianism. Start your own publicity campaign to bring us to the bargaining table on our terms, rather than capitulating to their false premises. Join with Heartland, AEI, CEI, and most of the world's leading climatologists to refute Al Gore's big fraud. There’s no hope for Al Gore. There is hope for you, Newt. Think of the impact you could have if you came out against the global warming hysteria now. You would send Big Al and his PR firm into apoplectic fits.

WILL SOME ONE WHO IS SAYING NEWT IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE READ HIS POSITION AND TELL ME WHATS WRONG WITH IT? I DON´T UNDERSTAND WHY WE CAN INGAGE THE LEFT.
(81 to 15)
14) We favor property tax credits to private landowners who agree not to develop their land
and agree not to sell it to developers (65 to 30

OIL AND NATIONAL SECURITY
1) Our current dependence on foreign oil threatens our national security by making us
vulnerable to dangerous dictatorships. (78 to 18)
2) Our current dependence on foreign oil threatens our economic prosperity by making us
vulnerable to dangerous dictatorships. (78 to 19)
3) We should build more oil refineries in America to lower the cost of gas and reduce our
dependence on foreign oil. (77 to 19)
4) With appropriate safeguards to protect the environment, we should drill for oil off
America’s coasts to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. (73 to 23).

Mr. Newt

I won't post anonymously, and I won't pull punches (nor will I go over the top). A quick review of replies already posted suggests that I won't plow a lot of new ground, either - but I've got to comment anyway.

You didn't have a bigger supporter than I was in 1994, and in the heady days that followed when you forced the Democrats to respond and react to you - instead of the hewing to the Republican tradition of responding and reacting to the Democrats. Almost single-handedly, you made "Liberal" a dirty word that, even today, Liberals shy away from.

That was the heydey of principled conservatism.

However, since your resignation and rehabilitation, you seem eager to find ways of crossing the aisle to "join with" the most virulent and unrepentant Liberals on issues in which they called the tune.

Each time you did, two things happened:

1. You undercut those principled conservatives who refused to cross the aisle and work on the Democrats' terms; and

2. You gave credibility and political cover to those Liberals (Clinton, Kennedy - now Gore and Pelosi), by making their extreme positions seem "centrist."

Ronald Reagan did not cross the aisle - either with the Democrats in Congress or the Soviets in SALT talks. He set the agenda and made them come to him. He didn't always get everything he wanted, but he got the core, and compromised only on those things that were away from his core.

In crossing the aisle with Gore and Pelosi, you've abandoned Reagan's core principle - which was to draw the line and not cross over on core issues. As someone else said, you seem to be moving rapidly toward the RINO/Rockefeller wing of the Republican Party. That's more than a shame - that's a tragedy - in 2008, we need a clear-eyed, principled conservative every bit as much as we needed you in 1994 - but this time, you're AWOL on the conservative cause.

Sir, you are backing Al Gore in his effort to push a Kyoto-esque agenda that will cost America trillions (that's "trillion" with a "T") of dollars (sadly, you're not alone - both President Bush and John McCain have climbed on that no-nothing bandwagon of pagan-like worship of a human-free "mother earth" instead of looking (as you suggested) for technological and free-enterprise solutions.

You say you're part of the conversation - but by being in the ad, you're not part of the conversation ... you're part of Gore's cheer-leading section. You've put your name, image and endorsement on his "Inconvenient Truth" agenda of state control of the economy and of our individual lives.

Gore has been discredited in Britain, where a court ruling declared his film propaganda (as opposed to educational). Only this week, it came out that he swiped computer-generated images from a Hollywood blockbuster and presented them as factual scenes of Global warming. He, sir, is a fraud, a liar and a deceitful demagogue eager to make millions (of dollars) and influence billions (or people) with his crude and anti-scientific polemic.

And you give credence to the lie, and to the liar - the deceit and the deceiver - to the propaganda and the propagandist.

You remain a brilliant political strategist, but it seems that you have no more at the core (any more) than does Dick Morris - another brilliant political strategist who'll hire out to Bill Clinton and Trent Lott at the same time - then sell them both out for another 15 minutes of air-time.

I am sorry you have fallen so low, Mr. Speaker. Your explanation explains nothing, justifies nothing - but it does clearly illuminate your cross-the-aisle-to-get-along mind-set perfectly.

Respectfully, sadly and finally ...

Ned Barnett

The last time I checked we all live in USA. In the USA we have freedom of speech which allows us the space and respect to express openly our ideas. With freedom of speech open discussion is possible. Without it you get regulation and liberal ideas shoved down our throats just like socialist countries. Newt you are right on the money. We need real solutions. It just so happens that our congress is populated half Democrats and half Republican give or take a few. Isolating one party or refusing to take part in this conversation is not going to advance the "environment" and "energy" case in a productive manner. Our mutual defense, economic well being, and our future public health require this dialogue.

Why even give them a inch. Now there going to take a foot. I thought YOU of all people would see that frist. Now we are taking one step close to their goal of rising taxes and bigger gov. Next time look at the forest for the trees and Stand up and say this is what we believe and what need to do. Why work with them, they do not want to work with us. They want to rise are taxes. We need to make a stand and make them start to give up things. I can't believe it. You know better. Sure, lots of folks aren't tech savvy and can be lured by politicians into believing the Global Warming stuff. You should not be helping them, though. The entire GW stuff is such an obvious crock, a power and money grab by Marxists and leftists who think they have finally found the Holy Grail of leftism, the Big Thing that will convince people to give over to them their freedom and property. Conservatives are proving they are not capable of articulating and defending their positions. Maybe they are just afraid of being called mean old capitalists, Earth-destroyers. What about the Truth? I know for a fact that the leadership of my employer thinks GW is all hooey, but they participate in conferences, etc, as if it's all true, because they think they can find a way to make money from it. agendas everywhere.

Newt,
I can not describe my disappointment.

Your ad with Nancy and subsequent explanation is on a par with Carter’s meeting with Syria’s president and with the leaders of Hamas…

No amount of explaining can undo the damage.

You have been an icon of the conservative movement; you have just given that image and prestige in support Al Gore and his hysterical movement.

Gore has declared that the facts are no longer in question the debate is over! You sitting next to Nancy calling for action on the “crisis” affirms that message…

That is the problem with icons I guess eventually most show you their feet of clay…. I had honestly believed you were a principled leader.

You will note that there is no similar outrage on the left for their folks appearing in with the conservatives in these ads. Could it be that they understand which side surrendered their principles.

I will watch with interest as you turn this into a serious debate about scientific facts and conservative solutions. Excuse me if I don’t hold my breath.

According to ice cores from the Vostok drilling site in Antarctica and deep sea sediment cores we are close to the end of our 12,000 year interglacial period, Google "interglacial" and you will see what I mean. We had better hope we can warm the planet or all those beautiful skyscrapers in New York are going to get bulldozed into the Atlantic. Glaciation is a pattern that repeats every 100,000 years with only a small 12 to 14 thousand year period of warmth and there have been five Ice Ages in the last 500,000 years. Antartica was totally ice free until 12 million years ago and the trend is colder, not warmer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Five_Myr_Climate_Change.png

Your web post does not match the ad, so I am a bit confused. It reminds me of Senator McCain almost yelling that he is a true conservative and then his actions show the true RINO that he is. Or when I wrote to Senator Kyle about the amnesty bill and he told me that he had to be a part of it or Senator Kennedy would have written the bill (BS). You "partnering" with Ms Pelosi shows your true colors. Keep drinking that green tea....

1. Bush and most of Congress did the ethanol deals to satisfy the farm lobby -- both corporate & rural, not to satisfy Stalinists.
2. Global warming is only important to those who are trying to make political hay out of unusual weather experiences. The gullible moderates are the targets of this, but the Rush approach of pooh-poohing everything will not prevent the gullible from being swayed.

The only hope to keep those folks from being swept up in a tidal wave of chicken little mandates & taxes, is to set aside the arguments over GW - yes or no & GW - man-made or natural, and move forward with common-sense, economically-sound policies & activities.

Build more nuclear plants, conserve whatever energy we can, develop new sources, be good stewards of the environment, etc. -- none of you who are ripping Newt can say that there's anything WRONG with doing any of those things. If you'd read a little bit more & stop blindly listening to Limbaugh, who has his head in the sand on this topic, you'd see that Newt's approach is one that can actually provide leadership on climate, and will give its supporters a lot more political capital to spend when it comes time to defeat outlandish climate proposals from the left, the U.N. & George Soros.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 9:35 AM
Do you know what I hate more then politicians? All the people posting on this blog calling Newt a traitor, commie, whore, dumb ass, ect. You guys have got to get a life. The guy makes a commercial about one topic that you guys might disagree with and now he is no good. Talk about throwing the baby out with the water. I thought that was something libs did.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 9:24 AM
Newt, you were a hero of mine in the early 1990s, even though you were green then. Now your time is past. Give it up. Kissing green ass for a few votes, even if you're being totally pragmatic and cynical, is a losing long-term strategy because there are so many moderates and even conservatives who are confused about green issues. You've just lent your weight to the green side and thereby confirmed a lot of wrong thinking in otherwise solid conservatives.

You should be ashamed of your foolishness. Most of aren't that stupid. I'll never support you in any way in the future.

Sincerely,

Bob

Unthinkable! To appear in an ad with a San Francisco Liberal. These people will be the destruction of this country. They are egotistical self-centered trash. San Francisco as much of CA has become a pool of filth with no morality. Where are conservative leaders? Do they really exist? Are they all just sellouts.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 9:15 AM
As a conservative and a member of the Westmoreland Conservancy, I believe the most important resource we have is land. Yet I still see the need to drill on 2000 ANWAR acres to try to achieve a modicum of energy independence.
Please do debate, but make sure the idea of energy independence, without sacrificing too much land, is at the centerpiece.
Thanks.

Mr. Newt I have been a long time faithful beleiver in you and your conservative beliefs. I thought you were different from all the other unprincipled immoral politicians, but sir you have now proven me wrong! Your actions to partake in the hoax and sharade of "global warming" with the likes of Nancy Pelosi have left me with a great feeling of dissappointment and betrayal! Good luck with your future endeavors in the Democratic Party!!

Mr. Gingrich, anthropogenic global warming is a fraud and a deception. One need only peruse the data sets used by the former Vice President in his Reifenstal-esque propaganda piece for evidence (temperature leads CO2, not the other way around; the data sets were switched).

Subsequently, joining with those who perpetuate that fraud makes you part of it as well.

This is why the GOP is now failing, and will continue to fail. Conservatism is not forwarded when people like you embrace liberalism and liberal premises. Bad show.

As someone who has been with you from the beginning (we live in Marietta, Ga.), I feel personally betrayed. Of course, I don't know why I ever expect integrity from a politician. I just thought you were different. Shame on me.

I just have to know though. Are you this big of a narcissit that you would kneel at the prevarication alter of Al Gore and whore yourself out with disengenusous Nancy Pelosi just to get on television?

You, sir, are a casualty.

You disgust me for betraying yourself! I disgust myself for ever believing in your sincerety and dedication to conservatism.

No mas, Mr. Gingrich, no mas.

Newt, I am a financial contributor to American Solutions. I think I understand why you did what you did w/ the Pelosi ad, but in my opinion, your erred. We need a strong conservative voice debating against the false idea of human-generated "global warming." We DO NOT need to appear to be conciliatory. And in this ad, you looked weak, and you made US look weak. Let's get a REAL debate going, Newt, like Ben Stein is doing w/ "Expelled."

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 8:36 AM
This ad makes no attempt whatsoever to present an "alternative" conservative stance on the issue. It merely reinforces the popular "consensus", now with even more "validity" from conservative leadership support.

Newt, I thought in recent years that you might be the last bastion of hope in Washington for truth and conservatism. Now, you've gone the way of McCain, selling out the truth and conservatism and those who put you in the very position of politics that you are in today. And that's your excuse? The McCain excuse... reaching across the aisle, joining the dialogue, blah, blah, blah. It's all bullsh*t politics!

How much did they pay you to be in that ad?

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 8:28 AM
82% of American's agree that global warming is probably happening. If we don't get involved in the "green debate" and present our ideas on how to solve environmental issues we are going to get NP's ideas. All Newt has said is use private industry to help create a clean environment not government regulation. I would hope that conservatives understand the import ants of taking care of the environment. It is ridiculous to say God created it so we don't have the power to screw it up. God created life and we screw that up every day. God gave us free will. We should using that to better others life's and the environment. Read the on the issues section of the web page.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 8:10 AM
Newt,

I have always thought that you were right on most issues; the Contract with America being the best idea. You are terribly wrong on this issue.

I do believe that we should be good stewards and protect the environment but we should not buy into "The Green Debate" without some science that can be verified. What is out there definately does not prove the case for global warming no matter what Al Gore says. The debate is not over.

What we are seeing now in the last few months is that pushing corn production for fuel has caused the start of food riots all over the world, hoarding and mass histeria. That fuel is a poor sorce for fueling our cars and still polutes the earth worse. Has anybody stepped up to the plate and said enough. This is the wrong approach.

Newt, you were the leader that I had hoped would do something like that, not reach accross the aisle join their debate. This should not be accepted for debate. It is wrong science that is being used by Liberals to take control of the country.

Bad science is made worse when we accept the debate simply because Al Gore and the Media are pushing it down our throats. It is wrong and you should not have jumped in particularly with Nancy Pelosi and legitimized the debate. Please reverse you course on this. Change the debate to our terms not join theirs.

A Conservative.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 7:53 AM
Sadly, starving a few million Haitians or Africans never bothered environmentalists in their Priuses (or should one say Priui, plural). It didn't bother leftists in the U.S. when Stalin starved millions in the Ukraine. Starvation: that's the outcome of food to fuel initiatives. Of course, they'll blame Bush or the Republicans for this too. People like Newt will look for "a bi-partisan" approach to solving this man-made problem.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 7:34 AM
It's good to see so many conservatives banding together to voice their opinions with regards to Newts ad appearence and the junk science known as global warming/change/crisis, or whatever it is today. However, your opinions are only being heard, in the majority, by people who already agree with you. Look at the Libs and other fanatics. They are all over the place, on the evening news, in increasing numbers of commercials, in schools and shopping centers. They're at the auto shows and car dealers. Right or wrong, deceptive or not, they are getting the air and print exposure to millions and we get to read each others e-mails. Remember, squeeky wheels get the attention and the oil. Complaining to those of us who already agree with each other is pointless. Just bend over and grab your ankles instead.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 7:22 AM
IMPOSTOR ALERT!!

Newt, I think you should know that someone who resembles you very strongly has recently made a very stupid ad with Nancy Pelosi.

Of course I realized that you would never make an asshole out of yourself like that.

Would you?

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 7:05 AM
You should have done your own add with another conservative. Speak about the science and technology you and many of us believe are the correct answer. To sit with NP gives her creditability, this is not the thing to be doing.
Make another add with a conservative articulating the correct conaervative answers to this concern.
Warmest Regards,

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 5:28 AM
I learned yesterday that Newt had given a nod to the left with this HUGE compromise. I also learned yesterday that some of the environmentalism movement finds its roots in the witchcraft religion of Wicca. Apparently Wiccans believe that there is a Goddess and that she is the earth. She feeds off of the earth's "greenness", including when each person dies. Is it any coincidence that today we hear things like, "We need to save mother earth" and "We need to be green".

No doubt about it, this is a religion--a revived pagan religion.

The One True God--Father, Son (Jesus) and Holy Spirit--created this world and remain in control. And while we are to be good stewards of this world, we are in no way to do so by adhering to false prophets (i.e. Al Gore, Oprah) or false gospels (i.e. Environmentalism, Wicca, New Age.)

America, return to God...and please don't legitimize the deceitfulness of our enemies by endorsing their cause. Advance God's cause by loving mercy and justice and most of all, His Truth--it's still marching on.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 3:15 AM
I agree with those who said you should've made your own ad. An ad with a fellow Republican would've been alot better.. not an ad with Pelosi (of all people!) . The ad just made us look as though we're caving to the Dems and their global warming hoax.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 3:13 AM
Shame on you, Newt!

I detected that your last phone call with Rush Limbaugh a few weeks back was "strained". A far cry from when you two put together "The Contract with America" in the early 1990's, won back the House & Senate - only to lose it a scant few years later after the DEMs had held it for 40 years! [I wonder how long they'll keep it this time?]

There is NO such thing as global warmer! I remember the coming Ice Age in the mid-1970's. There's documentation of this switching 5 times in the last 125 years! I also remember when we would run out of food when the planet hit 5M! The is also coming up again. There's always the Domesdayer's.

GOD created this planet and us; HE's in control!

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 3:04 AM
You're better than this, Newt. They made a friggin' patsy out of you. Cuddling up to Pelosi and her ilk never works for the betterment of America. If you must get into a discussion about this "global warming" nonsense, then make your own commercial stating the points you made in your explanation above and invite the LEFT to join YOU. Leaders set the path, not follow it. Be a leader, my friend.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 1:43 AM
It is extremely disappointing that you, Mr. Gingrich, have decided to sport the "green" side of what is a leftist issue. Global warming is a sham, we need to expose it as such.

Whatever happened to limited government, low taxation, deregulation, and outright production that was winning the world - having beaten the Communists in other countries while fostering Communists in this country?

We need to produce OUR OWN oil, and if an environmentalist gets in the way, drill them too! Produce means get it out of the ground not just to buy it from some sheikh in the Middle East!

Tax credits aren't needed, but what is needed is getting government out of the marketplace.

Democrats like "Miss America" Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, Harry Reid, and the ilk of human betrayers have one purpose - to destroy all that is good in America. Why do you side with them by taking their issue?

Build Nuclear Power Plants, Build Oil Refineries, Build Oil Derricks, and make it part of the American landscape.

Green is not the answer, Newt. Just like Peace in the World, or Peace in the Middle East is not the Answer. World Peace equals World Death.

There's a story which I tell that is part of history. It's about Ephesus, Greece. You see, Ephesus was a giant metropolis, but was getting a reputation because of a certain policy that goats would eat the excess greenery within the city. Someone who made decisions then, decided that the goats were unseemly and had to be moved, (which eliminated their food source). The result, in less than a year, was that Ephesus fell into the sea.

Do NOT let your ideals mix with those of the tyrants with D next to their names. We in America do not want to fall into the sea.

By Anonymous @ Friday, April 25, 2008 1:12 AM
You have become just another "useful idiot." Use that much vaunted brain of yours and look at the SCIENCE! There is no proof that can hold up to serious scientific scrutiny. Can 19,000 American scientists really be wrong?(Check the Oregon Petition) Accepting the premise in order to get in on the argument, is a losing strategy. How can you fight against something when you have implicitly endorsed it?
I am now incredibly, incredibly relieved that you decided not to run for President. If you can be taken in by this liberal claptrap what else will you be wiling to accept "just to get in the game?"

Newt,
huge fan of yours for many years. Watch you when you appear on t.v., etc.

Newt, in my conservative opinion, you made a mistake appearing with Pelosi. A San Francisco "huge" liberal! Your appearance gave her credibility! She has none!

Newt, this entire global warming thing is a bunch of crap. Your explanation of getting in the debate doesn't fly. You should not get in a commercial with Pelosi. Doing so suggests you accept the premise that there is global warming caused by man. We don't even know if there is global warming---and if so-so what? Greenland was Greenland for a reason.

It appears you went over to her side! Jeez, she is the ultimate enemy! A San Francisco California Liberal! What could be worse?

Common Newt! A really concerned citizen. Don't defect.

There is no such thing as "Green Conservatism" there is Conservatism and then there are the various liberal counterfeits of conservatism that only serve to water down Conservatism in their never ending effort to weaken and destroy the country.

Conservatism isn't stupid and this is such a stupid, stupid move on the part of someone who used to be a bold conservatism that words fail me.

What's the point.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 11:38 PM

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 11:34 PM
Mr. Speaker,

I’m so disappointed to see you in this ad. There are better ways to bring conservatism in to the energy debate, but this isn’t one of them. Siding with Pelosi and the democratic left will only serve to weaken the conservative cause, not strengthen it. Please rethink your position.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 11:28 PM
Newt,

After reading all of the comments made thus far about your appearance with Nancy Pelosi and your explanation for that appearance, I think your staff will need new headings to characterize the comments when they present a compiled list to you (I doubt you will read them all). The usual “Yes”, “No”, “Undecided” will not work in this case. More appropriately the headings should be “Support”, “Critical”, and “Profoundly Critical”. With the printed “Support” comments being able to be collected in a single paper clip while the others would fill a cabinet drawer or two, I wonder if there is some method to your madness?

With your well-developed senses of humor and irony, could it be that you are reeling us all in to display an appropriately cynical comedy when you spring the trap?

You certainly observe that there are not enough vertebrae among the current population of Washington arena Republicans to make a complete Conservative spine, so this gambit you began is designed to lament that fact.

After sufficient hue and cry, you plan to announce that “Even though I appeared with Nancy Pelosi, I will never appear with Nancy Pelosi” as a satire on Democrat Party method. Announce the satire and receive much more media coverage than the subject material (GW) could command alone. Then you can use the coverage to defame the popular misconception. Your flock will return happy to have played in your educational comedy. Your integrity will be rescued and intact and your playful wit injected into the currently liberal dominated political discourse.

Tell me this is true and I am not dreaming like I wish I had been when I saw that ad.

You certainly know that the ‘D’ in Democrat is for:

Diatribe, not Dialog;
Dogma, not Deliberation;
Discord, not Decorum;
Deceptive, not Dependable.

No need to confess an error if you can display a ploy. That’s politics….

Jack, Snohomish, WA

PS I don’t think you did it for $, you are smart enough to know that the only place you could openly spend it would be San Francisco.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 11:09 PM
Mr. Gingrich, I'd held out hope for some time that you might continue to be a voice of Conservative sanity in cesspool of bipartisan baloney. Instead, you sit on the couch and claim that we need to engage the philosophical enemy on their own terms. Here's a quote for you which you may recognize: "Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 11:01 PM
WOW!!

Well Newt you have fallen into the pitchfork crowd ready to string up the next successfully entrepreneur who wants to make money and spend money wherever and however they please. Galileo was imprisoned for thoughts that the world was "Round", I would guess that there were intelligent people like "Newt" who lined up to put him in jail.

Newt you are a history professor not a scientist, it is understandable that you think you can talk to people and work with them, all the while they are stabbing you in the back. The thing you have missed is one of Newtons laws , "Energy can neither be created nor destroyed only altered in form". Newt you are using the "Zero Base" budgeting theory for Science, ie All budgets go up so we just have to minimize the budget, not eliminate it. What happened to the Lion who wanted to eliminate the education department, oh he decided to agree with the EPA no matter what the cost.

Newt, ever watch Myth Busters? These two guys decided to test light bulbs and guess what, the regular incandescent light bulb performed better that the compact fluorescent. Wow using hysteria to sell different products, thats unheard of!!!!

The bottom line is that private industry will produce, sell and market the fuel of the future. Not government, to para phase Regan, government isn't the solution government is the problem.

It is extremely hard to explain to my child that most of the country has been captivated by a hysteria that is not supported by fact or most of the scientific community, and we are supposed to change our lifestyle for an epic size hoax . WHEN A CONSERVATIVE ICON SADDLES UP WITH "THEM" my child doubts all that is true and correct. I would not do a PSA with Osama Bin Laden explaining the dangers of "Setting your suicide vest to go off too early might be dangerous", Newt you have become just as absurd.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF YOU I AM ABSOLUTELY TIRED OF THE GREEN REFERENCES IN ALL MEDIA. HAS ANYONE NOTICED THE GREEN LOGOS IN THE LOWER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF ALL , I MEAN ALL, TV STATIONS. RIDICULOUS. ALL COMERCIALS ARE GREEN!

Meanwhile No to Nuclear Power, No to Refineraries, No to any energy advances!!!!!

Newt, By the looks of the posts here you have hit a nerve. Unfortunately, not the right one. As much as you are a student of history, you should now the only way to win in the battle of ideas is to make your point to the opposition and not try to schmooze and water down your principles. You can be a conservative and still be for for energy conservation, recycling, alternantive fuels, and a clean environment.

Why are you sleeping with the enemy who has no ideas and just rhetoric, and wants to inflict conficatory governament regulation and taxation on the citizens of the this country.

I hope you more publically clarify your intent and make another commercial showing how conservative priciples can be the right path for energy independence and a clean environment.

Unless we start making the case for the latter, we're going to get the former. That's why I took part in the ad."
This was Newts last sentence and it just boggles my mind with all the advances we have had in this country for the past 30 years and he still wants to debate our energy policy. Looks like we will still be using foreign oil for a long time.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:36 PM
I've heard it said that one definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. I applaud you for doing something different than just shouting no.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:36 PM
Entering a "debate" with someone who says that the science is settled and the debate is over, isn't really entering a "debate". You're just allowing the premise to be acknowledged. This will do two things ... make you look like a sell-out, and allowing the wackos the opportunity to invalidate anything you say against global warming in the future.

I'm sorry Newt, but this time, you really stepped in it. By the way, you can join my debate on it, but its settled opinion.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:35 PM
Mr. Speaker we have been on the debate stage for 30 plus years. We can drill in places we never could before to extract oil and gas always thought unreachable. We use 50% of our energy from coal but we can't start new mines. We can build the safest nuclear power plants but yet even now with gas prices at $3.50/gal the left wing enviromental not in our back yard fools will always "just yell no" for all of the above. You are playing their game and it is a loser. They want to force high taxes on oil companies to subsidize alternative fuel which will only drill the hole that those same oil compnaies will be buried in.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:33 PM
Defenders of Newt... consider this. These AGW policies hurting people... in a real way. The elderly can't afford to heat their homes in the winter. Our generous U.S. Senate sends them an extra $100! WOW! Working people are losing income ... by driving to work. Food prices are soaring because of food-fuel tax subsidies and because growing and bringing food to the market is even MORE expensive because of rising fuel costs. The rich in congress and those who cleaned up financially after they left congress (payoffs? nah... brilliance!) are totally out of touch with what's happening to regular people.

We need to be drilling for oil! We need clean coal fired generation! We need nuclear power. We need hydrogen. Our government is failing us.

Newt is part of the failure!

"...Green Conservatism that wants to use science, technology, innovation, entrepreneurs, and prizes to find a way to creatively invent the kind of environmental future we all want to live in."

I have no problem with conservative and market oriented policies to address environmental problems. That's one of government's primary and limited functions; addressing problems when the market fails as in externalities and public goods. But the keyword here is environmental PROBLEMS. Global warming is not a problem. It's an agenda to limit the free market. Newt, you have accepted the premise of a liberal agenda. Good bye.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:27 PM
Gas is hedging up to $4 a gallon. We are forced to use ethanol in our gas--that helps the environment--(so they say) but we are going to have poorer gas mileage, so we are going to use more gasoline. Makes sense to me! Just about as much sense that global warming does! Get your carbon offsets and global warming doesn't even matter--how could you fall for all this ridiculous stuff! I am so sorry you are taking this stand. The contract with America was great, too bad that it was just words! You have deserted the conservative movement--what's next?

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:26 PM
I would really like to encourage the people who are calling Newt an idiot, kool-Aid drinker, commie ect to think about what they are posting. The guy agrees with conservatives on 99% of the issues, no one has communicated the conservative cause as well as Newt the last 20 years, and now that he departs on one issue he is a commie. That is amazing!

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:15 PM
People are ridiculous if they think that Newt joined "the dark side"! I don't agree with his add either, but to say that Newt is the same as Pelosi is just moronic. I don't understand why as conservatives we are not supposed to think independently. You have Jackass' out there like Mark Levin telling all the Kool-Aid drinkers what to think. As I said I disagree with the commercial too, but can't we post reasonable comments and not pretend we are on moveon.orgs website. Newt, if you really wanted to address serious issues, try addressing the national debt, our educational system, the corruption in Washington and on and on. As for all the Christian conservatives out there, why don't you just follow your bible teachings and live a simple life. I am no bible scholar and don’t attend church every Sunday, but from what I have read from the Bible the idea of conserving and living a simple life is everywhere. If the Christian conservatives were as worried about following that teaching as they are the teaching on life our planet would be a much healthier place. I hate politics!

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:12 PM
Mr. Gingrich, you're an idiot. Climate change is normal. Man-made global warming is nonsense.

Policies to "control climate change" from governments world wide is starving people. In the U.S., they're making hardworking Americans pay needlessly. Some can't afford to drive to work anymore. Seriously. I think you and your ilk don't understand this. How stupid can you be, you who claim brilliance?. It's nauseating. When I saw McCain hold up that sign after the NH primary: "Stop Global Warming" , I felt weak in the knees.

You are betraying commonsense to make nice with savage leftists who have no care for humanity, Stalinists.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:10 PM
R.I.P. to another conservative pioneer. While being a good stewart to the world is everyone's responsibility, selling out to the "Green" agenda is deplorable.
The "Green" perspective has systematically shut down every good alternative, nuclear energy as an excellent example, and have propped up their agenda with perfection over good as the goal.
Sorry Newt, but somewhere you gave up and now you throw us conservatives under the "green" bus.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:05 PM
Newt, you gave credence to the AGW hoax. You apparently want Al Gore and the UN to collect taxes on the CO2 we exhale.

I am no longer a supporter.

Please, will the last one to leave; turn out the lights.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:55 PM
Newt,
The problem with getting "on the stage" with these people is that you have to accept the premise that there is such a thing as "global warming" and that is is man-made. You say this "may" not be the case but, by doing the commercial, you are showing one and all that you agree with the fear mongers that are pushing this pap. There is no such thing as man-made global warming. By accepting their premise, you have already lost the fight. I am sick to death of all the propaganda that is being pushed by Al Gore, the main stream media, Hollywood, and every marketing firm out there today. It is absolutely disgusting to me that the media and schools are trying to indoctrinate our children with this lie. What's even sadder to me is so-called Conservatives that are letting them get away with it. Fine, get on the stage with them, but just know that "if you sleep with dogs, you wake up with fleas".

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:55 PM
How sad. To think that I REALLY wanted you to be president is now depressing. It is not a debate when both parties are operating from the same premise. Pelosi has pulled your statue (and stature) from it's pedestal. I'm sorry. Washington is, as you say, broken. Clearly, you haven't broken away from it.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:53 PM
AlGore says there is no more debate. Newt, once you sign on with the liberals premise then you have already conceded that there is AGW and the audacity that man can change it.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:51 PM
Sadly, this event shows that Newt really isn't that much different than the other nuts in the ad. He now joins the ranks of Pelosi, Sharpton, and Pat Roberts. It is sad to see him diminished from the powerful conservative he once was, and once again become the liberal-leaning college professor type.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:51 PM
Newt, you blew it, taking part in a debate now is to late.
The left wing group just neutralized you from a debate. I gave you more credit than that. If you don't call it when it comes up, the debate is over.
Do you think McCain will have a chance to win with out CAMPAIGNING. duh.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:50 PM
The problem Newt is that the motivation is climate change. No one wants to put real pollutants in the atmosphere, waste energy, etc. The "problem" is the motivation is tied to the entire bogus theory of climate change.

The climate change loonies want me to believe that CO2 is a polutant, but its okay to fill my home with mercury filled light bulbs and drive a Prius that is 3 times more environmetally unfriendly than a Hummer. Climate change is designed to make government more invasive, larger, and provide a new source of taxr revenue.

THAT is what you have signed on to support. I have no desire to read or listen to anything you might say going forward.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:48 PM
Newt couldn't beat the Democrats, as he was pretty much forced out of office, so he joined them just to stay in front of the TV camera. The glory days of the early nineties are gone, and he just can't fade away.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:48 PM
Appearing in an ad like the one with Pelosi is not participating in the debate. It is surrendering the credibility to engage in meaningful debate. The statement contains a host of inaccuracies:
The majority of the public does not accept the premise of global warming;
The public does not agree that humanity is responsible for climate change;
Green conservatism is not accepting the premises of pseudo-environmental extremists and attempting to limit the damage -- green conservatism presents scientific facts and compelling logic to refute the arguments of people like Pelosi and Gore in order to re-focus the debate on genuine pollutants and on responsible environmentalism.
Eliminating the ban on DDT and PCBs is a start. Use technology to produce the cleanest energy possible and use the market to find ways to make it cleaner. Differentiate between real pollutants and imaginary pollution that is a nature product of life itself. Stop claiming that the doctors, biologists and engineers who support the theory that global climate change is caused by man are "scientists" whose judgment on the climate is informed and irrefutable.
In short, let's get real. Newt, you let us all down, and I hope you'll focus on facts instead of on more propaganda before the next ad offer comes to your plate.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:46 PM
Newt,
Good Grief, Man! Have you lost your mind? I have always considered you to be a man of great intelligence...up until now. Why would you do this? I still do not know even after reading your pitiful explanation.
I just heard this morning about these scientists calling for "global cooling", and an upcoming ice age.
You should not have caved into the dumbocrats. Nancy Pelosi is a dim-witted buffoon....and it made you look similar.
You should not have made this phoney commercial. Global warming is THE biggest hoax this country has ever witnessed. It's about stealing people's money from them, and having the government run our lives all day long. No puny man can destroy this earth. That will be in Almighty God's hands when the time comes.
Shame on you, Newt.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:44 PM
Newt is finished - anyone remember when he joined Hillary for Health Care Reform recently. One guy at work today said that Newt is basically the conservative Chuck Shumer. Anywhere a camera can be found, then you will find Newt there. Liberalism is a Mental Disorder and I hypothesize that Newt has excessive lead in his dinnerware thus causing brain damage and a direct path to Liberalism. To make a film with Lenny Riefenstahl (Tight Cheeks Pelosi) and espouse the propaganda of the death cult - leftists, islamists, communists, gayists, blah blah blah - is truly a despicable action and is the cherry on the top of the end of Newt's not so glorious career. Did I say that Liberalism is a mental disorder????????

I may be a nobody to you, but I am proud to be part of the Wm F Buckley wing and I would never sell out my principals and beliefs to side with liberals like Nancy Pelosi who only will turn around and stab you in the back when she gets the chance.

"Green Conservatism" is fine. Sign me up.

However, lending stature to the likes of pelosi and the Church of Global Hysteria is too much akin to what PeanutBoy carter did by travelling to Syria to kiss Hamas' *** (butt).

Having a debate is great, but a 30-second national commercial is NOT the place to do it.

You should know better, Mr. Speaker.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:18 PM
I read your reasoning for joining and gave you the benefit of the doubt, since you have been reliable in the past. However, I am not seeing how your joining with this group will bring conservatism to the table with people who are not really there for the environment. They are there for gaining control over everyone. It's Animal Farm all over again!

Newt, very sad day indeed, when you jumped on there bandwagon about this global warming hoax.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:17 PM
Newt is totally wrong on this...read this...not written by me
Down to Earth Day An estimated billion people are celebrating Earth Day around the world, but few seem to understand its true motivation. Today isn't just another reminder to use recycled paper or drive energy-efficient cars. It's a calculated attack on the sanctity of human life. Population control is inextricably linked to the environmental and abortion movements. For years, the Sierra Club and other green militants have said that the best way to consume fewer resources is to have fewer children. Their own website says, "Talk to your decision-makers and demand an increase of funding for voluntary family planning programs and access to comprehensive sex education for young people." Last year, Optimum Population Trust released a paper that was even less subtle. It claimed that children are "bad for the planet" and called on nations to reduce the global population by five billion--which would only be possible by forced abortion and sterilization. And how could we forget Barry Walters? The Australian professor published an article last year advocating a "baby tax" for every couple with more than two children. The crisis du jour is global warming, but even that is just another excuse to fund "Planet" Parenthood and similar groups. Stewardship of God's creation is the responsibility of every Christian. But we must realize that there's a greater threat to the environment than climate change or scarce resources--and that's the threat of environmental extremism that elevates the planet above people.

I hope the lopsided posts make politicians like you take some notice. Every time we disagree with you we are stupid, ignorant, lazy, gun toting, God Fearing, hicks who just don't know better. And then you go about building your little empires anyway. As of this year there really is no branch of government accountable to the people anymore, and thats a scary thought, you belong to little groups of people, usually the richest and the loudest. I have been lamenting this to all my friends for years; that we the people only matter because we spend money, no one believed where we were headed. Now they come complaining to me, but it really is too late. What a joke. We pay farmers not to grow food so that we can buy it cheaper overseas, then we take that food and make crappy gasoline that uses more water and energy to produce than regular gas. We are forced by the government to buy ridiculously expensive poisonous light bulbs, that we are going to have to create a tax to clean up and dispose. We will end up paying a tax on carbon and thus every aspect of our lives, what a boon to work ethic and enterprise that will be. Yet YOU tell us this is necessary, this is sane, we just don't understand. No my friend, it is you that does not understand. This country will not exist in 20 years. Thanks you greedy bunch of pigs

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:03 PM
sir, by agreeing to "co-sponsor" as it were, the ad with speaker pelosi, you have accepted the premise that any global warming is anthropomorphic, human caused. by doing this you have already lost the debate on the issue. the whole underlying issue for ms pelosi and others of her ilk is power. they are the angry neighbor claiming that the witch next door made their cow sick. they are the maniacal orator claiming that your sin has brought down the wrath of god on you (or in this case "mother nature"). there is no reason to agree with these people. all of their solutions are to be applied to everyone but themselves as they are the annointed and our saviors. the arguements were and still are complete bunk and by agreeing with their premise you have given them yet another piece of legitimacy they do not deserve.

Mr. Newt;

The best way to curb "global climate change" would be for all the communist activists to stop exhaling all this carbon telling us to stop exhaling carbon.

Your appearance with Pelosi on this issue is the moral equivalence of Jimmy Carter appearing with Hamas. Hamas are terrorists, negotiate with them and they will laugh while they dig your grave. Pelosi is a Communist. Negotiate with her on Global Climate Change, and she will laugh while she digs your political grave.

I was hoping you could be a brokered candidate at a topsy-turvy convention after McCain blows up. But, now that you're on board with Global Climate Change, I'll have to hope that he only gets 4 years, and maybe we'll find a Conservative who refuses to accept Communist premises as policy that needs to be negotiated.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 8:52 PM
Newt,

I have admired your vision and ideals for a long time, but I can't tell you what a disappointment it was for me to see you tag team with Nancy Pelosi on the global warming hoax ad. I totally disagree with your arguement that conservatives are missing from this debate. To the contrary, their voice is just now starting to be heard through the censorship of the media. The Al Gore movie is starting to be exposed for what it really is -- a huge untruth. Hundreds of scientists are now coming forward with alternative views to the UN study. And real data is starting to expose the lie that is climate change. I wonder how many Democrats you can sight that signed on to the Contract With America using the logic you have used for signing on to the global warming hoax? You're signing on to this has perpetrated the lie and in the meantime GREAT damage is being done to our nation in the form of power plants not being built, food prices increasing from the biofuel hoax and other things. These things will come home to roost sooner than you apparently think. I expected much better from you. You have time to regain my trust, but I want to see sure signs of it soon.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 8:48 PM
Newt, Have you gone completly senile? Since when do you win a debate by supporting your opponent's argument? I'm getting sick of Repubicans' logic. Time for a third party with real conservative belief and common sense.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 8:43 PM
Newt you have clearly lost your mind- you cannot win an argument by agreeing with the other side. When you converse with fools you become one, and you now are one.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 8:30 PM
Newt,

I understand your point that "just yell no" isn't a strategy. However, embracing freedom's latest threat isn't a good one either.

The day is coming when your liberty will be regulated by your carbon footprint. The size of your car, house and number of kids will all be determined by the EPA or other government entity.

"Green Conservatism" - sounds like "Marxist Liberty" to me. You can't get to truth by embracing lies.

If you really want to help this country and posterity, use your influence to start a Manhattan project for Fusion Energy. Much like the space shot, if we put our will behind it, the US can achieve this goal.

Then, with a limitless supply of clean cheap energy, our terrorist enemies will go broke and our possibilities will be wealthy.

The Republicans cared but that is no more,
They've sold out to stupidity for power and loot,
Even our last great hope, a man named Newt,
All they do now is moan and whine,
They've lost their principals and have no spine,
The libs will run over us and tax us more,
All in the farce of global warming by Al Gore,
I must say I've given up on the right-wing half,
They care for us no more, so what chance do we have?

This is your idea of Real Change? So glad I haven't bought your book.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 8:22 PM
Newt,

I've been a long time fan of you and always enjoyed listening to intelligent conservative speeches. I can't believe I saw you on tv telling all Americans "Our country must take action to address climate change." With that statement you have taken sides with Al Gore by agreeing with him that WE are the cause of climate change and implying that changing our behavior will effect the global climate. That is 100% pure BS and you know it. You acted like Nancy's little lap dog in that commercial!

"Conservatives are missing from this debate"
Newt...you're missing from the debate and there is no debate when you're agreeing with them (D) that we are changing the climate. Anyone with a knowledge of history knows that the climate is always changing and it always will. Where were all the massive hurricanes last year that the global warming crowd predicted???

REAL CHANGE would be drilling for oil in ANWAR and everywhere else the USA has access to oil reserves. REAL CHANGE would be exposing the companies selling carbon credits to be frauds and snake oil salesmen. REAL CHANGE would be debating man made climate change vs. "solutions" to fix something we can't effect.

Please show us the leadership that you've demonstrated in the past on many conservative issues. Let someone else be Nancy's lap dog.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 8:16 PM
Newt,

I’m glad you pointed out your reason. It makes sense to me and one other thing I think we have to keep pounding on is when it comes to the environment we need to be on the stage and actually lead the way. I think we can do this with the simple guidelines that were set out in the book of Genesis in the Bible that is recognized by many religious sects, people, and conservatives. The guidelines as I see them are Man was given dominion over all the blessings provided us we are to USE them, NOT abuse them, manage them correctly and we won’t loose them.

This falls in line with your thought of , “use science, technology, innovation, entrepreneurs, and prizes to find a way to creatively invent the kind of environmental future we all want to live in”.

There also has to be ways to expose the extremist on the Left that would discourage them and the media that support them. I think if we use a more common sense approach and get it out to the people the tide will be shifting in the correct (right) direction.

Sadly, this misguided rationalization for lending credibility to a bad ideology by joining it is not new with Newt. It's exactly what made him FORMER Speaker Newt G. . After the CWA Congressional victory he couldn't wait to start selling out the very people who put him there, jumping into bed with the Dems, passing an alleged outlawing of unfunded mandates bill which actually was a sham, outlawing none, and when true conservatives objected to such he removed them from his inner circle, replacing them with liberals. I'm sure he would tell you he was just trying to engage the other side just as he does with this incident, but it was a pure sell out. Newt talks the very best, most intelligent game of any current Repub., but watch what he actually does. Since he now has little opportunity to actually do much, this ad fiasco is the only indicator of true intent likely to be seen.

I agree to a point we need to advance technology no matter what that technology might be (computers, phones, networks, energy). But to appear in an ad that ultimately promotes a lie (a hoax emplys people are laughing) that is causing the demise of small business people in the USA, only gives ammunition in the cannon of the left. Newt has had many good ideas, but this is an example of a bad idea and bad behavior. I believe we are simply responding to the demands of communists who have assumed the mantle of the green movement. Newt has basically given credence to the global warming arguments of the left. Energy is good, clean energy is better, but at what price? And isn’t there a middle ground? I believe there is a very solid and affordable middle ground. Where is the common sense? We are putting a speed limit and governor on the engine of capitalism when we tell ourselves that any oil is bad and deny ourselves the life and blood of the American economy.

'man-made' global warming is the biggest crock of crap that the counter-culture has ever tried to get over on the voting consumer.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:58 PM
Newt, Your "contract with America" was a fabulous piece of work. Now you've de-legitimized yourself by apearing in the hoax ads. Makes you look like one of those bobble head dolls that nod their head without knowing why. What have you done to actually study the issue of '"global warming" yourself. Also, right now the CO2 concentration is reported to be 370 (or so) parts per million. People that grow plants in green houses like to bump up the concentration to about 1000 parts per million. It makes the plants grow better. With the rice shortage (caused by the idiotic move to burn food in cars) I would think we'd want to do what ever we can to help out the plants. More CO2 can help that.
More oil is being found all the time. What did Brazil just discover? the 3rd largest reserve ever? Drill! Drill NOW! Just having congress tell the world that we are going to remove all the roadblocks to drilling for our own oil will have a huge physocological effect on the world and futures prices will tumble.
Why not get on that band wagon?
Please.
Regards,
David

I agree with you Neut. The chicken-little environmentalists are foolish and disengenuous, but fossil fuels are harmful in the long run and we need better options. I have high hopes for fuel cells and I think we need to update and expand nuclear production. Only clear thinking conservatives can weed out the windmills and ethanols that liberals adore because they feel right.
Just be careful, Neut. They will try to use you and flatter you. Stay true.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:44 PM
This is just further proof that the Republican Party has become completely redundant -- Democrat-Lite, if you will -- and it is high time to put the GOP to sleep and form a truly Conservative party. And Newt, you are definitely NOT invited!

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:43 PM
In other words, you know it's hoax, but for political gains you're willing to propagate it. You broke my heart Newt. You broke my heart!

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:42 PM
Lost ALL credibility with me. Why accept the premise--engage in debate? Why, when all you do is give them cover. Another Rebuplican castration in full view and with a willing participant. Thats why I won't donate Republican party and to few individuals.

By JUDYCZY @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:38 PM
It is a sad day when the last best hope of the Conservatives and the true Republican Party surrenders his soul to the opposition. My first thought was how many pieces of silver AlGore paid you.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:35 PM
Dear Newt,
I am truly grieved that you chose to place your name on Al Gore's 'We' Campaign. I am a hurricane meteorologist specializing in climate studies. (See my website: http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/Goldenberg/)
1) There are many serious scientific flaws and distortions in Al Gore's film (see: http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/monckton/goreerrors.html)
2) There are major problems with the IPCC report itself. Many scientists have pulled out of the IPCC (though often their names are left there).
3) There are MANY scientists who have also done careful research with the climate data and have come to very different conclusions than those who are pushing the global warming agenda. (See details on the large climate conference just held in NYC: http://www.heartland.org/NewYork08/newyork08.cfm
The audio, bio's and in many cases powerpoint presentations are available there.
Honestly, the more that I speak with my fellow scientists, the more I discover that it is probably a minority of scientists who have looked at the data who believe the global warming stuff.

You might say that your motive is just to encourage people to protect the earth or to get a place in the debate. But that shows ignorance of where the global warming crowd's agenda is heading. You lending your name \to this adds steam to their efforts. I would greatly encourage you to read the transcript from Vaclav Klaus' talk, president of the Czech Republic, at the Climate conference:
http://www.heartland.org/Article.cfm?artId=23073&CFID=394203&CFTOKEN=90376761 (or go to heartland.org and do a search for his name).

I believe in reasonable conservationism, minimizing certain pollutants (CO2 us NOT a pollutant! Life needs it to exist!), etc. But that is not the real agenda of Al Gore's campaign. PLEASE take time to find out more. This could be done by getting info from the presentations of the conference I mentioned, though I am sure that you have lots of other sources.

You've heard God works in mysterious ways? It's a good thing you didn't run for President. That's how I look at your ad with Pelosi.

This is all about money and power, isn't it Newt? That's why you did this? You think the global warming controversy is "settled," don't you? You think Americans all believe in the hoax so we better jump on board or we won't win any elections? Is that it?

B.S. All it would take is a respected person (once upon a time it could have been you) to buy a 30 minute slot on the networks and announce the TRUTH behind global warming. Recent studies have shown there is NO connection to man's behavior and climate change.

But instead of doing that, you simply continue to hoax and give respect to someone like Nancy Pelosi, who has done as much to harm our country as the terrorists themselves.

Screw you, Newt. You've lost respect by doing this. Why don't you do what's GOOD for the country for a change, instead of siding with Democrats because you think that's the way the country is going?

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:23 PM
Why are you kissing Hanoi John Kerry? His treason is responsible for the last four years of the Vietnam War, and for how many of the years you were in Hanoi? Did he or Hanoi Jane visit you there?

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:22 PM
pathetic. the way to lose any argument is to agree to a false premise from the beginning. this is exactly what Newt is suggesting. agree that "man-made global warming" is a problem so they will listen to our conservative ideas to fix a problem that does not exist. pure genius. these are the same people that have supported burning our food for energy. hey i have an idea, burn what you can not eat and eat what you can.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:22 PM
Take the heat, Newt; you're doing the right thing by insisting a place at the table of the debate. Much can be said about each of those items you listed (e.g. science, technology, etc), and we need folks to start articulating positive and healthy policy responses to the radical liberal ideas out there.

And folks need to lay off leaders who attempt to articulate themselves about green conservatism. Many of the posts here are vile and the posters should be ashamed.

Keep up the good work!

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:20 PM

Why just join in on a Liberal view of the world?

You are just like McCain and Bush.... a liberal a__ kisser!!!!!!!!!!

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:19 PM
Why didn't you mention your position in the ad rather than imply agreement, you have been lured to the dark side, anything for power, anything to get elected.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:17 PM
Newt,
This is why you and John do not have the support of conservatives across the country. There is no such thing as global warming. The term climate change is more appropriate and the fact is the earth has always had a climate that changes. It is just that now the left has fooled enough people to believe in this nonsense. I think Abe Lincoln said “you can fool some of the people some of the time and usually that’s enough.” Many Americans have been fooled by this garbage science, including the idiotic Whether Channel. I fear that conservatism is entering a climate change of its own, the ice age. There is no choice between the current presidential candidates; all will run this country into the ground. It is just a question of how fast. When you want to get really depressed sit down and figure up how much you really paid in taxes last year. Don’t forget State income taxes, property taxes, federal taxes, sales taxes, city tax, gasoline taxes, social security taxes, Medicare taxes. Did I forget any?

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:15 PM
I use to admire you for your intelligence and the way you stood up for conservatism. I can now just shake my head. How can you engage in a debate with people like Nancy Pelosi? You use to be speaker of the house and a damn good one. At least you had a head on your shoulders. I thought. She is so far out there it's a shame. I guess I'm one of those would believes in natural happenings and there is nothing we can do to change it, unless we blow each other to kingdom come.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 6:12 PM
In all due respect, rubbing elbows with Pelosi is tantamount to the case conservatives are making against Obama and his association with the company he keeps with rev. Wright and Ayers regardless of how trivial those relationships seem. You are now projected as condoning and acknowledging the liberal slant in relation to global warming and other twisted liberal matters by association.

Just once I'd like to hear conservatives in Washington DC say Hell No to the Liberals. I don't know if you have figured it out yet, But We The People want ACTION. Your ad with Pelosi is one more step to giving in to the political agenda of the Liberals. I for one am very disappointed in you and your explanation is plain lame.

They will use you then abuse you as a patsy to further their cause. Mark my words. You of all people should know that liberal democrats think they alone have the right idea. There will be no debate unless you agree with them.

I think you did it because Al Gore paid you a handsome sum. I am very disappointed in you.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 5:50 PM
Newt,
Why would you allow yourself to be a pawn in the GW crowd? The data they use is over 10 years old to prove their point about global warming. They would not allow new data to prove that GW is not happening.
I know you like history but when it comes to putting more money in Al Gore’s pocket, I think you need to live in the present and accept that they duped you. You can still stand up for yourself by retracting your support. I don’t think Al Gore is going to nominate you for a Nobel Prize in Literature by supporting this bunk. I won’t support you by buying your books anymore.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 5:50 PM
Newt, when I saw the ad I started laughing (very loudly), so I didn't hear much of what either of you said. Judging by the comments though, you must have agreed with something she and her fellow San Fran Sicko friends concocted to raise taxes, eliminate God from our life, and impose further oppression on the middle class--Am I right?

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 5:47 PM
Some say you legitimized Pelosi. I say you delegitmized yourself. All these global warming initiatives are hurting REAL people. Most in Congress are rich enough to not feel any of the hurt they are causing the elderly, the poor and the average working American, let alone the poor in the other parts of the world. Food-to-Fuel will starve people TODAY and TOMORROW. We need to drill in Alaska NOW! We need more nuclear plants. We need viable hydrogen production techniques. I KNOW climate change is real. It's happened throughout the earth's history. Why in Hell .... (actually that is the answer... it IS a Hellish concept)... anyone believes in anthropogenic global warming is beyond me, except that it's a means for MORE taxation, more control of people by the government and more loss of freedom and liberty. You sicken me, Newt. I'm done.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 5:43 PM
oy... of all the people that I would think would join the global warming hysteria, you would have been one of the last. Too much intelligence and common sense in that brain of yours to not see this movement for what it is.

Newt, I supported you for president right up to the day I watched your 'debate' with Senator Kerry. That same day I unsubscribed from your Free Newt email newsletter and started looking elsewhere for a candidate.

Plain and simple, you are giving credence to a movement whose aim is to limit individual freedom and increase the power of the government. Have always liked you, Newt, but shame on you.

While writing this post, I think I just figured out what you are doing... you must figure the only way you can ever be president is to be viewed as more 'moderate'. We'll see if that works for you.

In the meantime...

The conservative movement mourns the loss of one of its greats.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 5:41 PM
Newt, come on man. You were my boy, I went to CPAC to see you then I see you on the couch right next to a commi. Regardless of what your careless brief says, you've sold out buddy. It's quite obvious. You have the ability to get everyones attention on your own by using the words you did in this post. But no, you chose to sit right there and be filmed next to NP. Why? Probably because you want everyone to see you as hip and trendy with your cool black and white commercial about the environment. What's next? A duet with Bono and John Legend while wearing recycled dime store band t-shirts? What a sell out.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 5:41 PM

Now, you go and pull this stunt? I knew you had larceny and contempt in your heart for conservatism - thanks for confirming my beliefs.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 5:24 PM
I agree with Newt's statement although a spot with NP is pretty bad. You should have done your own spot and put the spin on it you have in your explaination above. I don't agree with climate change but there is nothing wrong with looking for better fuel options and ways to curve polution but only if it benefits the avg. person. Any additional Gov regulation that causes tax increases has got to go and please get rid of ethonal already!

We could have used your help in actualizing conservative principles. What's next -- just a pseudo conservative for the Supremes? After all, don't we want to maintain a "dialogue" at all costs?!! You have sold out!

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 5:11 PM
I am a conservationist but NOT an environmentalist, Anyone advocating action to combat climate chage (read, "gobal warming") is LEGITIMIZING THE LIBERAL PREMISE that the phenomena is REAL--which it is not. Most truly scientific evidence does NOT indicate a HUMAN factor in climate change whatsoever. The greatest period of "global warming" in Earth's history occurred at the end of the last Ice Age when the human population was insiginificant. Climate change is a CONSTANT FEATURE of planetary life and periods of warming and cooling have been occurring since Earth was formed. Temperature changes on the planet occur PRIOR to the elevation of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere, not as a result of rising CO-2 levels. The dynamics of the sun is the dominant cause of climate change, not people, and the Earth was both much warmer and colder than today in the last 500 years (recorded history will demonstrate this). Glaciers are receeding in places but also expanding in other areas, and new climatological studies are actually predicting the beginning of a cool-down perod over the next 26 years that will produce the coldest planet we have seen in centuries. By the way--what is the IDEAL temperature of the Earth? Does ths question not have to be answered before we take steps to stop "global warming"? Perhps we are still too cold--or already not cold enough.

To give these anti-capitalist, big-taxing, big-spending, anti-God, nature-worshipping globalists the conservative blessing is perhaps the last act of a dying movement. Fight the premise AND the people who make it the reality (albeit, false) that it is. Sacrificing the truth and one's principles to appease or accept what is popular are NOT the actions of a true conservative and an affront to thoe who are. Fight the PREMISE which is based on a lie. Disaster awaits us all if this movement is not destroyed.

Thank you Mr. Newt! You are absolutely correct, and ... right! Just as it is good that we are in the U. N., and that it is in N. Y., so we can keep an eye on it and have influence, we should be involved in the debate, and there still is a debate, over climate change. If we are not, they will make all the decisions and end the debate. Mr. Newt, I may be the first one to agree with you completely! I am on our Rep Exe Cmte and I met you at Jan Whaley's Republican memorial in NW Florida, (I was in the quartet) and I still think you are the perfect one to keep an eye on the liberal democrats. You are one of the few to confuse them with your intellect and the facts, and I am always interested and fascinated by the way you think.
It is so critical that we have an influence with this issue, as they would love it if we simply stayed silent. Since they hate capitalism so much, this may be the only way they can defeat it. It would take something of this magnitude. Please keep it up, and never trust them. Wait, I learned that from you!

Newt, you have sunk your boat appearing with socialist Pelosi. I feel I can no longer trust what you say or do. You better get out to Fox and other networks and do serious damage control. As intelligent as you have been in discussing the Conservative movement over the years, why would have not consulted with the scientists in the world that have researched the climates of the world and have differing positions and are supporting their actions and statements with scientific facts?? Good luck with trying to convince any conservative that you were right with appearing with Queen Pelosi!!

Dear Speaker Gingrich,

Your name is Neville Chamberlain.

Your appearance with Speaker Pelosi was contemptible. Does the phrase 'useful idiot' ring a bell?

Global climate CHANGE (not necessarily warming) is a fact. There is NOTHING other than climate change, probably influenced more by variations in sun spot activity than anything else. Depending on your cosmological orientation, climate change has been taking place constantly for thousands to billions of years.

The current 'global warming' hysteria has nothing to do with climate change. It has everything to do 'communist/socialist/liberal fascist/Democrat party' efforts to: 1) destroy the US and its economy; 2) control world energy resources; 3) make billions of dollars for a handful of individuals (Al Gore) and companies who control the manipulation of carbon credits.

You, of all people, should be doing NOTHING other than yelling NO from the mountain top. NO to the lies and distortion of the current 'global warming' scam. NO to the grotesque manipulation of science for political manipulation. NO to the intellectual fascism being imposed on our campuses regarding the global warming and environmental scams and many other issues. NO to the efforts of Nancy Pelosi, the Democrat Party and their international Communist and Socialist handlers to destroy the US via this bogus issue. NO to the idiotic government projects that are starving and killing people world wide rather than solving real problems. NO to the efforts of the environmental fascists to stop every real effort to promote our energy independence. NO, NO, NO, NO to the utter malignant evil that is imbedded in the current 'global warming' and environmental scams.

Government does have a roll. Its roll is to ensure individual and corporate freedom and liberty. Its roll is to get out of the way of the free market entrepreneurship and innovation. Its roll is to protect us from the all the totalitarian efforts, including those of our Democract/socialist/communist party to impose totalitarianism from within.

Your appearance with Speaker Pelosi is a watershed moment. It is the moment all your years of conservative leadership were squandered. It is the moment you became synonymous with Al Gore. Hopefully your new friends will enjoy having another 'useful idiot' to parrot their propaganda.

Your new name is Neville Chamberlain. The 'global warming' and environmental scam is the Nazism of today and you have just sold out to them.

If you have any time to read real information after hobnobbing with Nancy you might try:

I think you're one of the most astute political minds in the country, and I agree with your blog entry. *However*, appearing in this ad was a huge strategic blunder, in my opinion, and no amount of rationalizing will convince me otherwise. Republicans can have a seat at the table for a sensical energy policy without lending legitimacy to the global warming alarmists. The propaganda value of having one of the conservative movement's leaders sitting next to Nancy Pelosi to ask for "urgent" action on global warming is non-trivial, and those of us who have learned to be deeply distrustful of every "crisis" that comes along have had every reason to be. Politicians, news channels, and special interests who benefit all love a crisis, because it opens wallets and opens the opportunity for a whole new set of laws that are next to impossible to kill once they're enacted. You know this better than most anyone, so I simply cannot understand what you were thinking here. It was a major mistake.

Newt has gone to the Dark Side. Just by appearing you have legitimized the lefts claims. Remember the picture / 1,000 words. Well in this case you better start talking faster because so far it's all BS.

This comment by Diana: Newt, I'm not surprised that you jumped on board with the socialist in our country, after all isn't it just part of the scheme of things! Convince the American people “they are the problem“ (Create “Fear”), they are causing "Global Warming", also convince them they need to stop driving their vehicles, because they are using too much oil, causing a shortage and polluting the air, thus, “they are the problem! It is their Fault!” And lest we forget, the American people have been destroying the ozone layer for how many years now??? Many American people hunt and own guns, and yes, they are the problem, right Newt?? It's their Fault, They cause the extinction of certain animals and they are at fault for crimes committed with guns. And to go further, convince the American people that they aren't capable of raising their own children (so the government should)… Basically, socialist, including the “Global Warming Crowd” have divided American people into many different groups, (these groups are created with “fear“, “hate” and “even love” of something that is important to the group) then they pit the groups against one another, constantly keeping them at each others throats so to speak. WOW! American people, they are a real problem aren’t they, it‘s all their fault isn‘t it! “NO, THEY ARE NOT!!” and “NO, IT IS NOT!!” Control, it's all about control. Did you ever study about abused women, Newt? Well, the control that their abuser has over them comes from convincing them they are the problem, creating fear, thus they become completely controlled, many times to the point of allowing themselves to be physical beaten, this is the same principle used by “Karl Marx“ in the Communist Manifesto, Socialism. FIRST CREATE THE “FEAR”, “Global Warming” and Many other assorted fears, then convince the American people that if they just pay more money in taxes it will get rid of the "Global Warming"! STUPID!! “Global” how I dislike that word, socialist are trying to make it an everyday word in American homes. Wonder why that is, huh?? Newt? I think you know! As do I.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 11:09 AM
Newt,

I can't tell you how disapointed I am that you and Joh McCain appear to be buying into the man-made global warming/climate change hysteria. I have been one of your biggest fans, but I'm afraid you have made poor choices with regard to this subject.

We need alternative energy, like nuclear. We also need to take advantage of the tremdendous oil resources that we have here at home, not because of "climate change", but because we need independence from foreign energy.

You're validating a hoax Newt, and I am sick to my stomach that I now have to include you with the likes of John McCain in that regard.

Looking elsewhere for leadership,

Martin Thompson
Richmond, VA

By @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:13 AM
PS. If someone came up with the money for that phony commercial with Nancy, couldn't someone come up with the money to EXPLAIN why Global Warming, as being taught in our Government Indoctrination Centers (Schools), is a FARCE. I, sadly, think so. Sorry Newt. You have great ideas, but this one reeks.

By @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:10 AM
OK. Logically, the next step would be to set a date to pull out of Iraq, and let's raise taxes temporarily etc etc.
By the way, I have been trying to cancel my $5.95/month subscription for two months now, but it seems the link does not work. Furthermore, after Emailing, I was asked to keep it, but I said No.
What does one have to do to Cancel? Cancel the Credit Card I wager.
How Democratic.
This cinched the Deal for me. I now truly believe that the Repubs are in bed with the Dem stringpullers and thus we get to vote for McCain... the lesser of three evils.
I'm writing in my vote for Jesse Ventura. At least I know he's not wearing a mask.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:19 AM
Disappointed is an understatement. We live in your previous congressional district(moved there intentionally) and have always supported you. We were just discussing how we could actually vote for McCain if you were on the ticket...hooking up with Pelosi changes things and I am so sorry and sad. The envirement is important but you should have chosen a different route!

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 9:03 AM
"I have a different view. I think it's important to be on the stage, to engage in the debate, and to communicate our position clearly."

Are you high? Its got to be dope! You must be smoking somthing. You don't get to sign up with enemy, support their cause, jump in with both feet, then claim you are somehow different. You did "communicate our point clearly." You are obviously a kool-aid drinking, Al Gore supporting, crazy as hell, wacked out global warming is killing the dingo that ate my baby, card carrying member of the flat earth and evil suvs are killing our planet club. Have fun with your new friends!

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 8:47 AM
Newt, I've been a supporter of yours in the past, but you've obvioulsy lost your damn mind. You not only sold out and gave support to a fake cause that only the left will ever benefit from but now you have no honest explination... that shows a lack of judgement followed by a lack of integrity. A killer combo...

By Jeepinguy @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 5:49 AM
I think your message would have had more punch if you had left Pelosi out of it. I understand what you are trying to do but it came across as giving the left wing Global warming nuts credibility.

By Anonymous @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 12:13 AM
Newt, you're an obvious sell out and a liar.
Here's why:

Your claim that we can't have a policy of "Just Yell No." is an insult to Americans who know full well that the global warming scam is a leftist/communist/dem bid to control America's economy, vital fuel resources...and slam the citizens with burdensome taxation to support idiotic GW agendas.

American's weren't yelling "No."
They were yelling for some member of the RNC to show some balls for once and speak out clearly against the creeping leftist/communist/democrat party and it's agenda.

Your claim of going on board with this GW lunacy so you might help lessen it's impact is absolute nonsense, in that it is akin to claiming to be joining an invasion force against your fellow Americans so that you might convince some of them not to shoot at us.
It's only a lame defense of capitulation.
Screw you, Newt.
You greasy tongued Rino.

You’ve sold out, lost your way, or changed towards a premise that is socially communal, scientifically unsound , logically fascist, and ultimately focused on the destruction of human life. Eugenics. Do not be fooled by it’s fashionable style or pleasant demeanor. What you have tied yourself to is not altruistic isn’t patriotic and it is not moral.
You can justify your behavior all day long but you have committed a treason to the conservative values of the men and women who have put you in the seat of honor.

No longer are you “Our Guy”. No more should you look to conservatives for support.

As you pass into an abyss of shame and humility, I hope you will awaken from you slumber. Realize you are now in the company of wolves. Beg for forgiveness from those you turned from. Grieve with sorry for those who have lost heart because of your betrayal.

But know this. We will not ask for the seat we gave you back. NO, we cannot.

Should you not repent and the heathen that you have chosen to associate with embrace you or should you, our Old Brother, decide to embrace them as your own, know this. Those who gave to you a seat of authority, recognition, notoriety and respect have crafted a new place and are finding for themselves new leaders. The seat, We The People, gave you, YOU have soiled, and stained and is no longer acceptable to us.

Do not expect to return in that seat. There will only be a place on the floor for you.

Al Gore left the stage in 2000 a broken, angry, and spiteful man, having lost his bid for the Presidency because he couldn't carry Tennessee, his home state. He was elected here twice as a US Senator (I voted for him then, twice) but then the Clintons had him; he took a hard left turn, and was nearly unrecognizable to his former supporters. Thus the solid defeat at home in 2000.

Did Al learn anything from his defeat? Yes, bitterness.

I believe Al has latched on to this pursuit of Global Warmalism as a sort of surrogate Presidency, and he'll doggedly persist in 'winning' until he has everything his way. He doesn't want to lose another one, not now, after winning the Nobel Prize. That's not enough, now.

Unfortunately for Al, science can't be silenced; eventually we will know more about our ever-changing climate. There's so many conflicting reports both going both ways, even some new "Ice Age" predictions, that to have Big Al say early on that "the debate is OVER" should have finished his ride as Global Warmalism's spokesman. If the scientific community hadn't been so cowed.

Really, with Al Gore leading this movement, there's no way Conservatives can ever have a voice. Because of 2000. Mark these words...Al Gore won't allow any Conservative input into 'his' movement. It's personal, now.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 23, 2008 8:05 PM
Sorry, Newt, it won't fly.

You have just implicitly aligned yourself with the crazy Global Warmists. You can have a debate without all being on the same side.

I choose the side of common sense, and you are not there. Count me out.

By seebee @ Wednesday, April 23, 2008 7:52 PM
Why Pelosi? I'm sorry Newt - seeing you sitting on the sofa with Pelosi doesn't buy you a ticket to the dance. This "dance" (global warming) is too bizarre. I think you have more of an impact when you enter the discussion by keeping your distance or sitting on the opposite side of the room with actual scientists. It is just like Obama sitting in Rev. Wright's delusional "church" for 20 years. He didn't "distance" himself and he did not exhibit any leadership qualities by continuing to sit in a pew and donate money to the cause. Joining the "gang" and becoming a "gang-member" just gives you a group identity.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 23, 2008 6:40 PM
Mr. Gingrich, please show some leadership and tell people the truth about the global warming hoax. Your appearing with Pelosi undermines my work, and the work of many other skeptics who are *right* about this. Is it not more important to be right, and tell people the truth, than to simply get along with people who are wrong?

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 23, 2008 4:29 PM
My confidence is questionable ref your conservative priciples. I've always looked to you as a guiding light, going back to when your daughter worked with us at Delta. Please reconsider who you sofa with in the future.

I was so upset to see you with Speaker Pelosi pushing the Global Warming Thing. I read your comments, but I felt that I had to weigh in and let you know how I felt. Global Warming is a Fact. We know it is occurring, but there is no way humans can control it. We cannot control a Hurricane, Earthquake, Tornado, Thunderstorm or any other natural phenomena that takes place on our planet. How on earth can anyone think they can control the temperature of the planet?
We have to do the research to determine what the effects of the global warming will have, what areas will be impacted and use educational and other resources to prepare those areas for what will be coming. We know its coming, prepare for it and deal with it. This is all a Money Grab by special interest groups who are able to dupe the public.

You are a man of great knowledge and integrity and to join speaker Pelosi simply gives these environmental maniacs credibility.
You need to help inform the American people as to what is going on with the Oil Drilling situation in our Country. We need to know who is responsible for not allowing the drilling, why, and how we can get it on the table so the “Folks” can do something about it.
We have a vast supply of untapped oil in Alaska, the Gulf of Mexico, Utah, Montana and other locations. But because of “Special Interests” (Environmental Lobby), we can’t get it. Look at the long term problems ahead in the Middle East and the new birth of problems in South America. Those problems are going to go on and on for decades and we will be at their mercy.
Let our oil companies drill for our own oil, and the American Economy will bounce back like a rubber ball. We are at war. An Oil war. Put the resources of the United States to work like we did at the beginning of World War II. A massive consolidated effort of our great American Workers created the military machine and might that took down Hitler and the Japanese Empire. We can do it with the Oil Crisis. Put us to work on our own oil production and knock OPEC out of the box. Yes - continue the development of the Hybrids and Solar and whatever other technology is needed and when they come along we can cut back on the oil or sell to the other nations that will be held hostage by the Middle East and South America.
When are we going to wake up? Our whole economy is based on Transportation and moving from one place to another. Necessity!!! How do we get to work? How do our products get manufactured (other than those in China)? How do our goods get to the stores for our consumption? These items are just the tip of the Iceberg. Just think about all the relationships to Oil and Transportation. Those Sheiks in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia and Kuwait) have been sucking us dry for years. Why do you think they are sitting on their little Gold Thrones? Our American Companies put them where they are today, and then they kicked us out - took our technology and know-how and shoved it in our faces.
Thanks for reading this. Dennis , Baxter, Tennessee.

Whether there is global warming and, if so, what causes it, are matters of fact - not politics. The best people to judge in the complex area of climate change are the scientists who have spent years studying it.

This issue has been studied more thoroughly than any other piece of policy-related science. There is now an overwhelming consensus amongst qualified scientists that the Earth is getting warmer and that our emissions of greenhouse gases are the main driver for this change.

So, Newt, why don't you accept what the science is telling us? The world, especially low-lying countries like Bangladesh, faces a serious and urgent threat. The US needs to contribute to solving it.

By Anonymous @ Wednesday, April 23, 2008 4:15 AM
“I think it's important to be on the stage, to engage in the debate.” Newt, is that supposed to be a joke. According to the elitist, socialist, do as I say not as I do crowd, that you just got into bed with, THERE IS NO DEBATE. Dr. Al Gore just said on national TV that people who have legitimate questions about his so called science (what exactly are his scientific qualifications again?) are akin to those who believe the moon landing was staged on a Hollywood set. Does that sound like debate? If Al Gore thought there was still room for debate he would have shown up at the The 2008 International Conference on Climate Change, where over 200 scientists from all over the world (with real degrees and everything) actually got together to talk about whether people are causing global warming.
These control hungry socialists obviously do not care about facts. If they did they would actually want to find the truth, no matter how inconvenient it might be to the profits they are making and will continue to make by bringing our well oiled machine of a country to a grinding halt. Yes, puns intended.
A quote from one of the most intelligent , rational thinking, talk show hosts of our time, Andrew Wilkow, applies here: To include people who are wrong in the decision making process merely for the sake of consensus, does not yield good decisions.
I agree that there needs to be another dog in this fight besides the liberal propaganda that is force fed to the American public 24/7, but joining up with the likes of Al Gore and Nancy Pelosi is not the way to go about it. By signing up with them, you, a conservative, have just given them more legitimacy in the eyes of their blind followers, and crushed your reputation with conservatives.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 22, 2008 11:23 PM
Newt, I think you've lost it. You sure lost me. I did once have hope that I could count on you, but apparently that's wrong. When you stand up on your hind legs and tell these jokers that their manmade global warming theory is a fraud, then maybe I'll listen to what you have to say. Not before.

By Wally @ Tuesday, April 22, 2008 11:00 PM
I hear 'ya brother. I'm concerned on two fronts : A.) Nancy Pelosi - although you may need to work with her in the future - America does NOT - and her effectiveness & ratings are lower than well water - by you appearing with her - her ratings jumped 10 -15 points.

B.) Now everytime a Conservative tells Al, Nancy or the other tree huggers of a by-gone era that could care less about our Quality of American Life - to "Pound Salt" on Man Made Global Warming - they (The Enemy) are going to remind us that you sat on the couch with Nancy "in agreement". Put RINO-Democrat McCain on the Couch.

Democrat-Socialist always screw Conservatives in the end. Now they have the Obama Bus as another weapon. :-)

Not that it counts for much but - I'll stand with 'ya on the side of Technology, math, science, China is the Enemy of Earth too, "Ace" this soy-corn-et al going to inefficient biofuels and put OUR FOOD back on the dinner table and let's drill like their is no tomorrow (because there isn't) in ANWR, the Gulf etc to BUY US TIME TO CONVERT once and for all. For this, I'm with ya - no couch time necessary :-)

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 22, 2008 10:13 PM
Mr. Gingrich, One does not first have to agree to a false premise in order to engage in debate. Check out the Michael Crichton speech "Aliens cause global warming".

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 22, 2008 10:03 PM
Newt, you lost me :( You've gone over to the other side by furthering their goals. You don't 'get along' with those that are wrong, you debate them with facts.

Like the late, great Ronaldus Magnus, my party has left me. Looks like I have to go to the Constitution Party to find a true conservative home, the "R's" and the "D's" are just 2 sides of the same coin now.

Thanks for the memories.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 22, 2008 9:54 PM
newt, I saw that ad and it made me sick, for years I have looked up to you as a conservative leader, someone that could articulate conservative values in a way few others if anyone could. The principles of conservatism don't change!!! our challenges change, the issues change, however the template and they way of handling them should fall back on our principles.

you say conservatives are silent on the issue and need to be engaged with it on the stage etc, that makes me laugh, because it isn't a dabate it isn't LEADERSHIP when you have the SAME view as they do.

just got back from hawaii, visited hanauma bay, they said an ancient rise in sea level formed the bay, umm, was that cave man global warming?? north america has had one of the coldest winters in a long time, these are the kinds of things you should point out, point out, the stupid things that actually make us use more energy trying to feel good.

I fear the mccain template of obtaining power has infected you. move to the left get the media attention and get the votes, however I will remind you that if we had a real conservative that wasn't mormon mccain would have had no chance, also pay attention to the states that helped him win, are the same ones that vote for the libs, one has to wonder where this is headed.

By John Ansell @ Tuesday, April 22, 2008 8:07 PM
Folks, he's got a great point, why let the liberals have a monopoly on this issue? We need to form the Conservative solution to the "problem." And no, I don't buy into the hype, it's just that we can use this as another wedge issue.

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, April 22, 2008 7:34 PM
Newt, by excepting even the slightest garbage that AG, NP or any of the deer in the headlight LIBS have on this GW Bunk is a show of weakness. The Libs way is do it their way....and their way ONLY. We have no negotiation room. I am VERY disappointed. We need MORE Refineries, The environ- mentals will be the death of America.

By jscripture @ Tuesday, April 22, 2008 6:44 PM
Newt, I love you, but signing on with N.P. gives credibility to AGW. How do we avoid going down some economic dead end when we can't stand for getting our facts straight, before setting policy?
