"Melody is the main thing. Harmony is useful only to charm the ears." --Haydn
* The 1920s, to the '40s are often called America's 'Golden Age of Popular Music'.
* Millions were nightclubbing and dancing their way through life.
* Radio stations and hotels had their own orchestras.
* Wonderful orchestras were playing in just about every city in the country.
* Even small towns had a dance hall, while big cities often had a dozen or more.
* Musicians and the bands were touring Europe bringing the new, exciting music with them.
And, - all this needed one essential ingredient, ........music.
This Golden Age of Music, was made possible by a Golden Age of Pop Composers. It wasn't just the world-famous composers, the Gershwin's, Cole Porter, and such, but hundreds of men -and women - who contributed music that captured the world's imagination.
Here is where you may read a little bit of their accomplishments, and hear some of the music they created. It is one of the curiousities of history, that while we still play and sing all their music, we rarely ever recall their names
