Have only recently driven any distance with my roof up I found it was very noisy on the motorway. I also found I could get rid of the noise by pulling down on the front of the roof  On inspection the two striker plates on the A pillars have grooves in them like this!

So off to the stealer with my extended warranty in hand. "sorry sir - fair wear and tear" :bs: on a 4 year old car with 18k miles "we can replace the strikers but we also need to do the catches and the seals- that will cost

I have exactly the same problem and Slough Honda quoted me a similar amount.

Where did you order the JDM parts from?

The striker on the right hand side of the car physically came loose, cost me 34p to have Honda take all the seals etc off and replace the screws that hold it in place, that was the charge (17p each screw !)

Might think about replacing the strikers, in the (UK) Honda parts catalogue there are 2 options, 1 for the GT, these are also hardened probably as per the JDM spec.

Probably worth changing to them, as I have a 2000 car with hard top, don't think they would have given it the GT strikers as it didn't even exist then did it ??

Good work!

Still begs the question though, is anything actually covered under the extended warranty???

Not covered so far on a 4 year old 18k mile car!

Drivers seat side bolster collapsing
headlight with water in it due to failed seal on unit
Worn striker plates due to poor materials

All declined on the :bs: "fear wear and tear" clause

Still I am reassured if I have problems with the clutch, engine, gearbox etc it should go through on the warranty!

Hmmm I have this problem too...................

I did read somewhere that a quick fix was to take the strikers off and place a piece of card behind each one to bring them forward a minute amount.

Not sure though...............

Tried that and the tubing over the catch hook!
Neither worked!
As you can see the wear was bad, almost slots worn in to the plates!

Other option may have been to swap the sides over. They look from this pics (an I may well be wrong here!) to be symettrical, and in your case the grooves are worn on opposite sides. So switching them over may have worked for a while..

Did think about that but I reasoned that they were already worn and simply swapping them would result in even worse noise sooner rather then later. Plus I was on a mission to prove the stealer wrong! :D

is there any adjustment in the strikers themselves? if you loosen the screws that hold the strikers in place is there any adjustment or will the new ones go on in exactly the same place as the old ones?

secondly, what are the strikers made off? steel or some other alloy?

No adjustment on the strikers, the screws are counter sunk and locate the plate once screwed down. Only possible adjustment at the strikers is packing them out from the window surround. Though I doubt that will do too much!

The strikers are cast and have not corroded where they have worn so I would guess an alloy.

Hi All

Remembered this from the FAQ section: -

Rattling Roof Catches
My S HAD the most annoying little clicking/rattling sound coming from the strikers/roof latches. I understand that this is a common problem/fault with many s2k's out there.

Get yourselves down your local fish tank stockist and ask from some Fish tank tubing . . . .it is a clear flexible 6-8mm diameter plastic tubing. I had to buy a whole metre . . . . but who damn cares it only cost 49p. Basically you only need about 2cms of the stuff.

All you need to do is slip this over the small metal knobbly bit (technical jargon) that protrudes from the striker (the part that is fixed to the roof) quite difficult to explain really, but if you look at it, you will see where I mean. This simply prevents a metal to metal contact, the small about of plastic is just enough to tighten up the seal.

I'm going to give this tubing thing a go too. May just use whatever I find around the house first though. :D

Yep, mine were done under warranty today, just new strikers no new rubbers or catches.

2 young grease monkeys even took it for a 10 mile test run to see if they had done it properly :thinker:
