World Premiere!

In "Safe," a possible terrorist attack traps wealthy Americans in an underground luxury bunker 300 feet below the earth's surface. As time goes on, survival depends on whether they are being saved, or being kept prisoners by the people hired to protect them. Safe is set in the immediate future.

A Carnegie Mellon University Graduate, Recent LA theater credits include Stanton in Matter of Honor at the Pasadena Playhouse, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet at A Noise Within, Dorian Gray in A Portrait of Dorian Gray at The Theatre @ Boston Court and Louis XIV in Power at Theatre Banshee.  He has appeared on "Guiding Light," "The Bold and Beautiful," "Kojak" and in a myriad of independent films - his most recent "The Deafening Silence of a Very Bright Light".

Ronald Hunter has appeared on Broadway, Off-Broadway and spent many seasons with various regional theatres on all three coasts. He received an MFA degree from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Member of the Circus Theatricals Studio Ensemble.

John Kassir's most recent stage credits include the world premiere of The Glorious Ones at Lincoln Center.   Off-Broadway credits include:: Reefer Madness (Winner Ovation / Garland awards), Three Guys Naked From The Waist Down (Drama Desk / Outer Critics Circle award nominations), Ionesco's Variations... (World Premiere). TV/Film credits include: The Crypt Keeper in  "Tales from the Crypt", Zagreb in "HBO's 1st & Ten", Gar on  "Star Trek Voyager", The Atom  on "Justice League", Shemp in  "The Three Stooges Movie",  Ralph on "Reefer Madness The Movie" As a standup comedian, John was the  Star Search $100,000.00 Comedy Champ, and has opened for headline acts such as Lou Rawls, Rodney Dangerfield,  and The Temptations. As a voiceover artist, his cartoon voice work includes Pocahontas, Tiny Toons, and The Simpsons, among many others.

Circus Theatricals credits include: Laura G. in Man.gov, Viola in Twelfth Night, Marian Almond in The Heiress, Weedwacker, the title role in Iphigenia in Aulis, Sister Cities, Coffee to Go (The Circus Theatricals 7th Annual Festival of New One Act Plays), The Circle, Deconstructing the Torah.

Jade Sealey’s other stage credits include the roles of Cavale in Sam Sheperd’s Cowboy Mouth, Indra’s daughter in Strindberg’s A Dream Play, Katherina in The Taming of the Shrew, The Princess of France in Love’s Labour’s Lost, Constanze in Amadeus, Mary in Green Eyes Dreaming.

Jade received her BA and went to graduate school in Theatre Arts at UCSC where she did two seasons with Shakespeare Santa Cruz.

DERRICK MCDANIEL (Lights)
With Circus Theatricals: Man.gov, Harm's Way, Twelfth Night, Complexity, Greensward The Misanthrope and Iphigenia in Aulis. Derrick began his acting apprenticeship in 1990 at Theater East in Studio City, CA. This is where he honed the craft of stage lighting. A few of his lighting credits include “The Godfather Workout” for the HBO comedy festival in Aspen; “The Quiet Room” at the Whitefire Theater, “Worse Than Murder” at the Ventura Court Theater, and “Eubie Weller” at the Stella Adler Theater; “Among The Thugs” at the Odyssey Theater- and many others. Derrick was nominated for a 2004 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle award for lighting, in “Among The Thugs”, as well as, a 2005 ADA lighting nomination. He has earned critical acclaim, many times over, for his designs. Derrick would like to thank you for your support of live theater. Enjoy.

Safe marks Jamie’s first time working with Circus Theatricals. Her original play, The Outskirts of Paradise, received its LA world premiere at the Met Theatre last summer. As a monologue artist, she has performed her work in London, Santa Fe and Chicago.

An award-winning filmmaker and prolific playwright, Mr. Rose's writing/directing credits include the film Side Effects, starring Arye Gross, premiering this spring at the Breckenridge Film Festival; the feature Come As You Are, starring James Russo;The Elevator (Best Short Film - Denver, St. Louis.  Official Selection - Toronto, AFI, Fort Lauderdale).  Other screenplays include Nervous Rex for the Samuel Goldwyn Company, Steps, currently in development at Endgame Entertainment, and Almost Dangerous at Mandalay Films.    Produced plays include Eye to Eye (American Globe Theatre, NYC), the critically acclaimed, Weekend In Goshen (Theatre Geo, Los Angeles), Opening Ethyl (West CoastEnsemble, Los Angeles), Tryst and Shout (Circus Theatricals at the Hudson Theatre, Los Angeles) and Looking For Lois (Finalist - Actors Theatre of Louisville's National One-Act Play Contest).

KAPPY KILBURN (Director)

Kappy Kilburn is Associate Director of Artistic Development at Pasadena Playhouse.  Her directing credits include: Work, Hindsight, Relativity (Hothouse at Pasadena Playhouse), Three Hotels (Freemont Center Theatre), Watching War/Wanting Peace, Romancing Stereotypes (LATC), Fast and Furious at Sacred Fools, 2007 ABC Diversity Showcase, All My Sons for Directors Lab West. She has worked in NY (Broadway, Off-Broadway), LA, Florida, Missouri and Georgia.  Kappy has assisted renowned directors such as David Esbjornson, Frank Galatti, Gordon Davidson, Lynne Meadow, Sir Peter Hall, and David Ira Goldstein.  She co-founded and is on the Steering Committee for Directors Lab West, and an alumna of Lincoln Center Theater's Directors Lab.

 

Jeannine Stehlin

JEANNINE STEHLIN (Managing Director)

Produced over 40 plays for Circus Theatricals, including Man.gov, Harm's Way, Twelfth Night, Sister Cities, Greensward, Complexity, phigenia in Aulis, The Misanthrope, Macbeth, Tartuffe, The Cherry Orchard, Richard III, Hamlet and The Cheats of Scapin, (Odyssey Theatre/Circus Theatricals co-productions) The Circle and the award-winning The Job by Shem Bitterman (LA and Off-Broadway). Sound design credits include Circus Theatricals 7th Annual Festival of One Act Plays (now playing), and The Circle (LA Weekly "Best Sound Design" nomination).

Her long list of acting credits include Macbeth, Twelfth Night, The Job, Peer Gynt, Tartuffe, The Misanthrope, Hippolytus, The Stronger, The Art of Success, Women and Wallace and the films, “Watch It,” and “Rancho Cucamonga." Jeannine made her television debut as a child on the popular children's program, "Romper Room" in Pittsburgh.

Jeannine earned B.S. in Advertising from the University of Illinois, and an M.B.A. in Marketing from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

 

Jack Stehlin

JACK STEHLIN (Artistic Director)

Jack founded Circus Theatricals in New York in 1983, and has produced over 40 plays in NYC and Los Angeles. An award-winning actor, Jack has appeared on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theatre, and stages around the world. Jack is an alumnus of John Houseman's The Acting Company and a graduate of the Juilliard School. Most recently, he as seen on stage in the Circus Theatricals production of Complexity, and the Los Angeles premiere of Salome with Al Pacino, directed by Estelle Parsons.

As an actor, his Circus Theatricals productions include The Misanthrope, The Circle , Macbeth, Hamlet, Richard III, Tartuffe, True West, The Cheats of Scapin, The Job.

Other Los Angeles Theatre:Speed-the-Plow (Los Angeles premiere), and Habitation of Dragons (Zephyr). His extensive notable New York credits include Richard II (dir. Steven Berkoff), Henry V (w/Kevin Kline), Casanova (w/ Ethan Hawke, dir. by Michael Greif), Henry IV, I (w/Mandy Patinkin, dir by Des McAnuff), Julius Caesar (w/ Al Pacino and Martin Sheen),Timon of Athens (dir. by Brian Kulick), Richard Foreman’s Don Juan, and Romeo and Juliet (dir. by Les Waters).

TV and film credits include the film "Salomaybe?" (with Al Pacino) and guest star roles on "Without a Trace," "Monk," "JAG," (recurring), "Buffy" (recurring ), "NCIS," "Judging Amy," "The Practice," "Crossing Jordan," "NYPD Blue," "ER."

This summer, Jack returns as DEA Captain Roy Till on the Showtime series "Weeds."
