basic set-up
Start by winding one shuttle with burgundy, another shuttle with cream/beige. You also will have a ball thread in each color. You also will need three or more beads (mine are 9mm rose beads.) Load shuttle 1 with either color, and the beads. Tie a knot in all 5 threads. You can find instructions for basic pearl tatting here Hold the two burgundy threads together for your ball thread, S1 for your shuttle. Tat two ds. Reverse, switch to cream thread, hold both threads together for shuttle thread, tat 2 double stitches in reverse tatting (2nd half of ds first). Keep repeating for desired length, ending with cream When you are ready for the first bead, tat 1 ds with the burgundy threads, then 1 with the cream threads. Put down all except the burgundy shuttle (S2) and ball thread, tat a normal chain: 2-2-2-2-2-2. Put down, pick up the cream shuttle (S3) and ball thread, tat 2-2-2-2-2-2. Slide bead into place in the middle Pick up S1 again, holding both burgundy threads again, tat 1. Switch to cream, tat 1 (reverse order). Start with beginning chain again (burgundy 2 ds regular, cream 2 ds reverse), for as long as you want. Keep adding beads, finish with chain, tie. This also makes a very nice choker necklace! |
