Hey, I’m a social worker in Germany. I work with deprived adolescent and young adults (male and female) with complex social and personal problems. Among other things they have problems with self-confidence, body awareness and teamwork. In my opinion the haka is a great possibility to work on this and give the adolescent a positive feeling.
My first question: Do Maori approve it when Non-Maori use their traditional dances or is it an insult? Second: Does anybody know about something like a Maori community in Germany, which is willing to teach some of the Maori history, language and the haka? Or is there another possibility to learn the haka in Germany? Oh, and I'm female, would this be a cultural problem?
