Vostok

Vostok, Line Islands

Vostok is a small (0.24 km²), low coral island of the southern Line Islands located 230 km west from Millennium Atoll and 158 km north-northwest from Flint.

The island is roughly triangular in shape, with fringing reefs protecting beaches of coral sand and coral rubble. The interior is vegetated with a dense stand of tall Psionia trees.

The island is conserved as the Vostok Island Wildlife Sanctuary protecting important breeding colonies of seabirds such as the Red-footed Booby (Sula sula), Great Frigatebird (Fregata minor), Lesser Frigatebird (F. ariel), Black Noddy (Anous minutus) and White Tern (Gygis alba).
