For those of you that bought the original 1975 vinyl issue of this timeless classic, you may have been disappointed by the state of the vinyl. Well, more than 25 years later, you have a chance to hear "Ommadawn" as it was meant to be heard. The vinyl is top-quality 180g virgin vinyl and plays impeccably with near-CD quality.
As for the album itself - what can I say? Mike Oldfield's most emotional and diverse work to date, fusing in an array of world music styles (African, Celtic and...

Mike Oldfield - On Horseback (Ommadawn)
Love it.

Mike Oldfield - On horseback
One of mike Oldfields rare attempts at vocals

me playing On Horseback by Mike Oldfield
I'm playing the ending segment of Mike Oldfield's 37-minute piece 'Ommadawn'. No amp at home so I'm playing through guitar rig. The capo is supposed to be at 7th fret but I'm detuned. Enjoy and sing along! :P On Horseback Lyrics: Mike Oldfield, William Murray Vocals: Mike Oldfield, The Penrhos Kids I like beer, and I like cheese I like the smell of a westerly breeze But what I like more than all of these Is to be on horseback Chorus: Hey and away we go Through the grass, across the snow Big brown beastie, big brown face I'd rather be with you than flying through space. I like thunder, and I like rain And open fires, and roaring flames. But if the thunder's in my brain, I'd like to be on horseback Some like the city, some the noise Some make chaos, and others, toys. But if I was to have the choice, I'd rather be on horseback. Chorus Some find it strange to be here, On this small planet, and who knows where. But when it's strange and full of fear, It's nice to be on horseback. Some are short, and others tall, Some hit their heads against the wall. But it doesn't really matter at all, When you happen to be on horseback. Chorus So if you you feel a little glum, To Hergest Ridge you should come. In summer, winter, rain or sun, It's good to be on horseback. Chorus Chorus You know, I'd rather be on horseback.

Portsmouth - Mike Oldfield cover by Hergest Ridge
So, I was bored, so I took a recorder, had fun with it, and this is the result! Nothing really incredible, just a little tune I always loved. Though it might maybe interest you guys. My name should easily indicate that I'm a huge Mike Oldfield fan, and he made such an incredible song out of this folk tune... I had to try too! All of the instruments played by me, blah blah blah. So anyway, been working on some stuff. I've got an awesome track which should be a collab coming up, though it won't be before at least September. Maybe I'll have another song for you guys before that, though. Dunno. Also, this is making me want to do some instrumental pony music. Maybe in a similar style to that of Mike Oldfield, actually. No idea. ------------------------------------------------- DOWNLOAD LINK: www.mediafire.com

Until he started touring regularly in the late 1970s, Mike Oldfield built up a reputation for reclusiveness that verged on hermit-hood - rarely interviewed, seldom seen, he simply sat in the studio, constructing his latest one man masterpiece, and apparently turning down some fabulous offers to go on the road. In fact, given the extraordinary complexity of the three albums he recorded during this period (Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn), his reluctance to perform live was scarcely surprising. If the Beatles didn't think it possible to recreate some of their stuff on stage, what hope did Kevin Ayers' old bassist have Just twice did Oldfield stir, once for a BBC TV performance of side one of Tubular Bells, and once for a full-fledged live presentation of the entire disc, shortly after the album's release in June 1973. Surrounding himself with friends - Ayers, David Bedford, Mick Taylor, Steve Hillage, Fred Frith, Pierre Moelin and Ted Speight (Steve Winwood dropped out after missing rehearsals), Oldfield then took over London's Queen Elizabeth Hall for a show that highlights both the ...

After that he composed some more hits, beside others 'Moonlight Shadow'. Singing was never his cup of tea, so he let others sing, here for example Maggie Reilly. But in his videos Mike Oldfield is at least always to see. 'Music for me was my whole life, for 20 years, I lived, thought and breathed music, everything was music. He often takes his guitar and starts playing. Meanwhile he doesn't sing anymore at all, he loves instrumental music, especially celtic folk. His girlfriend ...
