Welcome to the Langley Distributed Active Archive Center

The Langley Distributed Active Archive Center, located at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, is responsible for archiving and distributing NASA science data in the areas of radiation budget, clouds, aerosols, and tropospheric chemistry. Langley has a long history of involvement in these areas and a considerable body of relevant scientific expertise. This expertise includes: playing a primary role in the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment (ERBE), the Stratospheric Aerosol Measurement (SAM II), the Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiments (SAGE I and II) and the Measurement of Atmospheric Pollution from Satellites (MAPS) satellite experiments and in the Global Tropospheric Experiment (GTE) field program; serving as the primary location for the Surface Radiation Budget (SRB) data analysis; and, participating in both instrument and interdisciplinary investigations for the Earth Observation System (EOS).

EOSDIS will provide easy and reliable access to data products derived from NASA instruments on EOS platforms, to data generated by the NASA Earth Probes, to Earth observations data previously archived at various data centers, and to new data products derived from these data. Many of the EOS instruments are scheduled to be launched by the year 2000. Data obtained from the the Clouds and Earth Radiant Energy System (CERES), the Earth Observing System Polarimeter (EOSP), the Measurements of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT), SAGE III, the Multi-angle Imaging Spectro-Radiometer (MISR), and the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES) investigations will be archived at the Langley DAAC.

The Langley DAAC has developed an on-line computer system which allows users to log on, search through the DAAC's data inventory, choose desired data sets, and place an order. Data are available, free of charge, via FTP, on tape, CD-ROM, or Videocassette. Data may also be downloaded directly from the Langley DAAC Home Page.
