New PCI Chip Set
Intel Debuts USB Controller

Product Description
Intel's family of products for the Universal Serial Bus (USB) specification enables PC and peripheral designers to easily integrate the benefits of USB for their customers. Intel's USB family of products includes the Intel 430HX PCIset for top performance and highly reliable business PC designs; the Intel 430VX PCIset for maximum multimedia capabilities and top-value home and small business PC designs; the 8x930Ax Universal Serial Bus peripheral controller for creating new PC peripherals including digital joysticks, cameras and integrated PC/telephony applications and the Intel 8x930Hx Universal Serial Bus Hub Controller for USB integrated hub devices, including monitors and printers, as well as stand-alone USB hubs.

The Intel 430HX PCIset
The Intel 430HX PCIset helps you achieve the real performance advantages of Intel Concurrent PCI architecture (incorporating PCI 2.1). You can design a new generation of Pentium® processor-based business PCs with built-in scalability-enabling you to add features and capabilities at a variety of price points, without degrading system performance. Universal Serial Bus (USB) support enables a wide spectrum of peripherals that are hot Plug and Play "right out of the box."

Uncompromised EDO timing performance matches up to 10% performance advantage of an L2 cache-based system, without the cache. It supports 64Mbit DRAM (for up to 512MB of system DRAM), and integrates the memory address buffers. Integrated deep-posting and FIFO buffers enable concurrent activity on both sides of the System and Data Controller for improved CPU utilization. ECC and parity memory support are integrated into the chip set. The 430HX PCIset single-chip host bridge requires 60% less board real estate.

The Intel 430VX PCIset
The Intel 430VX PCIset helps you design a new generation of Pentium processor-based PCs for multimedia, games and personal productivity software. Improved EDO memory support, faster timing and support for advanced synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) enable a breakthrough in performance. An option for Shared Memory Buffer Architecture (SMBA) permits sharing part of system memory with the graphics controller for ultra-cost-sensitive PCs.

The 430VX PCIset integrates support for the Universal Serial Bus (USB) specification, so home users can add a wide variety of Plug and Play digital devices, from mice, keyboards and trackpads to joysticks, cameras and USB phones.

Intel Concurrent PCI architecture (incorporating PCI 2.1) means that as new sound and video applications hit the market, PC users can add new PCI cards without degrading system performance. You'll see enhanced performance for hi-fi, 3-D, audio, full-motion video and the hottest new "edu-game" software. At the same time, the common "business core" at the heart of the 430VX PCIset lets you leverage your investment in BIOS code and development tools.

The Intel 440FX PCIset
The Intel 440FX PCIset is a highly integrated chip set solution for delivering Pentium Pro processor performance to mainstream business systems. This second-generation PCIset for Pentium Pro processors delivers world-class performance at an affordable price. The 440FX PCIset optimizes system performance for 32-bit application software in 32-bit operating system environments, and supports Universal Serial Bus (USB) capabilities for Plug and Play connectivity "outside the box."

The Intel 8x930Ax Universal Serial Bus Peripheral Controller
The 8x930Ax USB-compliant controller is an 8-bit single-chip microcontroller implementing the Universal Serial Bus 1.0 specification. The microcontroller can connect a wide variety of external peripherals including telephony equipment, keyboards, monitors, printers, games and other devices to the host PC, equipped with a Pentium processor and Intel 430HX or 430VX PCIset on any other USB-equipped systems.

The 8x930Ax USB-compliant controller is based on Intel's widely used MCS® 251 micro-controller architecture. It is a high-performance 12 MHz controller which features ample data memory space, flexible addressing capability, and efficient high-level language support. The controller is feature and instruction set compatible with Intel's MCS 51/MCS 251 microcontroller family, a feature that protects your firmware/software investment.

The Intel 8x930Hx USB (Hub) Peripheral Controller
The 8x930Hx USB-compliant controller features the same time-proven MCS 251 microcontroller core, plus the advanced capability of an integrated hub controller. The hub provides an expansion point for USB by supplying a connection to other USB functions. The 8x930Hx is the first production USB hub available for todays PC peripheral devices.

The Universal Serial Bus Specification was completed in 1995 by the members of the Universal Serial Bus Implementors Forum. The USB-IF now contains almost 400 member companies in a variety of industries including semiconductors, computers, cables and connectors and telecommunications.
