Important note: Some of the applications listed on this page are freeware, and some are shareware. If you use shareware beyond a reasonable evaluation period, you are morally obliged to register and pay for the software. We are grateful to Qualcomm, Microsoft, and Netscape for granting the CPCUG license to distribute their software to our members. If you download or otherwise obtain any of these packages, please do not upload them to another server anyplace.
Connecting to cpcug.orgWe are phasing out the distribution of Slipkit and EmBarque to new account holders. The User Support Team will still support these antique applications, so if you are currently connected and not experiencing problems with these packages, stay with them. You might want to update the individual applications that were contained in those packages, and you can do this right from the Basic-Set links later on this page.1. Windows 95: The 32-bit MSIE Kit Millkern Communications has put together a Windows 95 Internet Access Kit for new shell-account-with-TIA users (a version for dynamic PPP account users will be available soon). This version, customized for CPCUG members, is also available as a five-disk set from Millkern Communications, and will be sent to new account holders if they specify that they are using Windows 95. You can also download it from the Millkern web server -- 6.4 MB (not available through LYNX). Please read and print this documentation before you try to install the software. The application is a self-installing package that contains Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 and Microsoft Internet Mail and News. It also contains and will install the necessary dialup networking and dialup networking script utilities.
Using this package will take advantage of the 32-bit Windows 95 TCP/IP stack, and users will then be
able to use additional Internet applications from the lists below. Be sure to get the 32-bit
applications for Windows 95.
If you are using Windows 95 with its own dialup networking, you will want to augment
your software with applications selected from the next section -- be sure to get the
32-bit versions of the applications.
We are now recommending that new account holders use the 16-bit version of Netscape with the included Shiva modem dialer and TCP/IP stack. It is available from Netscape's web site. Members connected through their cpcug.org accounts may read the installation instructions and download it now from our web server (7.7MB). This version is also available as a seven-disk set from Millkern Communications, and will be sent free to new account holders if they specify that they are using Windows 3.1X. The same diskettes are available to any CPCUG member from the software library folks at the start of our monthly general meetings at NIH. [There is a small disk preparation fee involved for those getting the disks this way.] We will be preparing Shiva Dialing scripts as soon as we can get to them, and they will be available right here. If you are using Windows 3.1X, you will want to augment your software with applications selected from the next section -- be sure to get the 16-bit versions of the applications.
