Microsoft Internet Explorer Logo Programs

Last updated: November 3, 1997                                                                                                Microsoft has provided two sets of Internet Explorer logos that you can include on your pages: channel logos and a Get Microsoft Internet Explorer logo.

The Microsoft Add Active Channel Logo and the Microsoft Add to Active Desktop Logo

You can use the Microsoft Add Active Channel™ Logo to provide your users with a consistent mechanism for adding your channel to their Microsoft Internet Explorer browser. It also helps identify your channel as one that is compatible with their Internet Explorer browser.

Likewise, you can use the Microsoft Add to Active Desktop™ Logo to provide your users with a consistent mechanism for adding your desktop item to their Microsoft Internet Explorer desktop. The Add to Active Desktop Logo also helps identify the desktop item as one that is compatible with their Internet Explorer browser.

Both logos should always include script that performs the following functionality:

  • directing people not using Internet Explorer 4.0 to download the new browser
  • for people using version 4.0, initiating the installation of your channel or desktop item
(You can use the script we have provided. See Step 3 below.)

If you'd like to use either the Add Active Channel Logo or Add to Active Desktop Logo, you must read and accept our logo agreement and register with us. You need to register so that we can contact you if there are any changes to the logos or scripts.

To register for the Add Active Channel and Add to Active Desktop logos (you need to register only once if you are using both logos), follow this three-step process:

  1. First, simply fill out the Site Builder Network (SBN) registration form. (Why apply to SBN? So you only have to register once. By building a channel using CDF and Dynamic HTML, you qualify for all of the benefits of a free SBN Level 2 membership.)

  2. Then, armed with your SBN ID and password, simply click through the logo legalese and accept the terms of the logo agreement. After accepting the logo agreement, you will receive the logo and script for use on your site.

  3. Last, follow the step-by-step instructions for adding the logo and script to your pages.
