Quatsino

Nineteen reserves on 346 hectares, at the north eastern corner of Vancouver Island, just south of Port Hardy. The reserves were allotted by Commissioner O'Reilly in 1886.

The name is derived from the Kwakwala word "koskimo" which has been translated variously as 1) people of the north country, 2) the downstream people, or 3) people who lived on the other side [of the island]. The band is part of the Kwakiutl linguistic group.
