Westbank


Located on 969 hectares servicing 3 reserves with a total of 10 km of mostly paved roads. The reserves were allotted by Commissioner O'Reilly in 1860.

The Westbank First Nation has a population of approximately 500 members and its traditional territory is located in south central B.C. and extends from an area west of Kelowna to the Slocan Valley in the east.

The post office in 1902 gave the reserve this name to indicate its position on the Okanagan Lake. The Westbank Band broke away from the Okanagan Band in October 1963. The Westbank Band is part of the Salishan linguistic group.
