About our new look
The Boston Globe Online is proud to introduce you to its newly redesigned format -- version 2.0, if you will. The new look, prompted by your comments and feedback, has a variety of new and improved features:
EASIER NAVIGATION
We've introduced vertical navigation on all pages, which can be found in the column at left. The links in that column will always be relevant to the section you are surfing.
MORE FREQUENT NEWS UPDATES
To keep the site fresh thoughout the day, we update The Globe Online every few minutes. Our latest news area will tell you virtually everything happening in the region and the world, and our front page will be updated throughout the day to tell you what's important.
FASTER DOWNLOAD
Not everyone surfs the web using a T3 line, so we've streamlined the site so you can spend less time waiting and more time surfing. In addition, all our graphics have been optimized for the web, so they are faster to download, and are understandable even if your graphics are "turned off."
EXPANDED SPORTS COVERAGE
To ensure you can get the latest scores and stats, we've expanded and redesigned our Scoreboard. Updated every few minutes, it's the best place to go if you're an avid sports fan.
QUICKER SEARCHES
We've placed a search box on virtually every page of the site (you can find it in the column at left). In addition, we're utilizing a new search engine that should make your queries faster and more focused.
HELP!
Our Help section is designed to assist you as you navigate your way around the new Boston Globe Online. It contains helpful hints, answers to frequently-asked questions, and other important information. Help is always available -- just click on the button in the upper-left corner of any page.
UNIVERSAL EXPERIENCE
Designing for the web is a challenge. Some of our users are surfing from high-speed offices with the latest browsers; others are surfing from their homes using 14.4 modems. To ensure we accomodate everyone, we've eliminated the use of elements that may be inaccessible or troublesome for some of our users (e.g., ISMAPs, frames). Our new design has been optimized for all users including the visually impaired, and, in general, is browser-independent. If you experience any problems with the site, please inform us at once and we will remedy the situation.
