CORRECTIONS

  • An article published June 14 on The Chronicle's Web site inaccurately characterized the authority of the new federal Office of Human Research Protection. The office, which is replacing the Office for Protection from Research Risks, will be part of the Department of Health and Human Services. Officials of that department said the new office would have the power to independently suspend research projects at universities where scientists have violated federal rules aimed at ensuring the safety of human subjects.
