MRI: Packers' Favre has tendinitis
By Don Banks, Sports Illustrated A Green Bay spokesman said Monday that results of an MRI on Packers quarterback Brett Favre confirmed tendinitis, but showed no ligament or tendon damage. Rest has been prescribed, but no determination has been made on how long Favre should rest. Favre has not been ruled out for Monday night's game against Miami, but is unlikely to play. When asked if Favre's status should be considered day-to-day, the spokesman said, "It's more like week-to-week." Favre, who has started a record 125 consecutive regular-season games, did not play in the Packers' exhibition game against Denver on Sunday, a 26-20 loss.
Favre tested his sore elbow during pregame warm-ups, and decided to sit out. After Sunday's game, Favre said of the MRI: "I think the smart thing to do is to make sure that there is nothing in there. We don't believe that there is any problems. There is not much swelling at all. But it's tennis elbow, and as a quarterback, every time you throw, it's going to be inflamed. So we just want to make sure we have something to compare it to." Favre said Sunday he'd like to be back on the practice field Wednesday, and that he hopes to play at some point this preseason. But he also conceded he'd have to take a wait-and-see attitude.
