Is there still room in this world for an old fashioned romantic?
Q:
Gia I would be happy if you responded.
My girl problem is that homecoming is coming up. I'm a freshman and the worst thing is I had to go to an all guy school because my parents thought if I went to co-ed, I would be "distracted". I need some ideas of where I can get a date and how I should approach a complete stranger to ask if they will go to a dance with me. I'm decent-looking (no acne) so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. My friends have dates but not me(my friends have girls they know at other schools)and no, my friend's dates wont set me up either. This is a very tough situation for me. Hell I never took a girl to a dance before, I want to badly because girl's rock. Gia please help my confusing life.

The way I see it, your parents got you into this mess so they should be the ones to help you get out of it. If there's one thing mothers are good at, it's butting into their children's lives (yes, it continues into adulthood) so let dear, sweet mom know about your situation and maybe she can set you up with a friend or co-worker's daughter. Okay, I know - it's not an ideal solution, but if you're desperate, you're desperate!
Q:
Romantic moonlit walks, love letters and poetry, long-stemmed roses... err... are women actually still impressed by these things or have they become as cliched as they sound? Sometimes it seems like the modern idea of romance is flavored contraceptives and getting wasted... Is there still room in this world for an old fashioned romantic?

You bet! That lovey-dovey stuff is music to my ears, but it's difficult to find guys who'll actually do it. Moonlit walks have been replaced with chat rooms, love letters are now e-mailed, and long-stemmed roses are more expensive than the down payment on a new car. It's not that we're impressed by such things, but that a guy put the thought into doing something romantic in the first place. And even then, those efforts often evaporate once a wedding ring slides onto his finger. So, keep being romantic -- women DO love it!
