Parents Choice Awards for E3 1/19/01 15:09


Mars Publishing, known for its Parent's Guide to Video Games series of books, will give out Parent's Choice Awards at the E3 Expo in May. The Parent's Choice Award nominations will be announced in the coming months; previous recipients include Electronic Arts for the creation of SimCity and Hasbro Interactive for Civilization 2.



Hudson Japan to Control Distribution 1/19/01 15:08


Hudson Soft will begin distributing its own games to Japanese retailers beginning March 1. The company is using the measure to reduce costs. The first games in the new distribution system will be Bloody Roar 3 for the PlayStation2, Momotarou Festival and Adventure of Pinobee for Game Boy Advance and Kurumaru for PSOne.



No Kessen III for Xbox 1/19/01 15:04


According to sources in Japan, Koei's Kessen III will not be released for the Xbox. The game was reportedly listed as a working title in a Microsoft release schedule, but it will remain exclusively on the PlayStation2.



Strip Mahjong for NGP 1/19/01 15:00


SNK is set to release the first adult game for the Neo Geo Pocket Color. Super Real Mahjong Premium Collection is a strip-Mahjong game to be released in Japan in March. This version will add new characters to the collection of animated characters from the arcade Super Real Mahjong series. The game is recommended for players age 18 and older.

Sony to Double PS2 Production


Sony intends to double its PlayStation2 production in the next three months, increasing from 1 million to 2 million units per month. The international release of the console left many forlorn gamers empty handed as production failed to live up to predicted levels. Sony shipped as little as half of the expected number of units to the US before Christmas, and the company hopes to compensate for its early shortfall by expanding production this year.
