Square Expects High Sales for FFX 1/23/01 15:14


Square is projecting sales in the millions for Final Fantasy X, the first game in the franchise for the PlayStation2. The company expects to sell 3.5 million copies of the game in Japan. It also expects to sell between 1.4 and 1.8 million copies in the United States and 1.2 to 1.5 million copies in Europe.

According to an update from Japan, Square's Final Fantasy XI will include over 2,000 playable characters. Each character will have specific goals to pursue within the greater storyline. To circumvent the language barrier, players will be able to communicate through a symbol system. Sega to Cease Dreamcast Production 1/23/01 11:28


Sega will cease production of its Dreamcast game console by the end of March, according to the Jan. 24 edition of Japanese newspaper, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. Sega will attempt to reverse its recent economic downturns by concentrating its resources on the development and marketing of game software for consoles such as Sony's PlayStation2 and Nintendo Game Boy Advance.
