Futurama[Parasites Lost]
Review

If only Fox would start airing Futurama with the same regularity that space worms bring to Fry's bowels.
Fox, why have you forsaken me?
Whatever else you may want to say about Mom, she was right about not eating those egg salad sandwiches from the vending machines in truck-stop restrooms. Unfortunately, Fry has to find this out the hard way, as he gets a nasty case of the worms. Fearing for his safety, the professor and the gang make miniature, robotic versions of themselves for the flight into his innards. Meanwhile, Leela and Fry spend some quality time together, but as with the parasites themselves, nothing good ever turns up in the end.

Why Fox continues to dump Futurama in the canal of early Sunday night is beyond us. It remains one of the cleverest and most imaginative shows on television; thankfully Fox has at least had the sense to renew it for another season. But no matter what else is served up this year, tonight's episode will remain easily one of the funniest in the show's brief history. The spoof on Fantastic Voyage is smart enough, but the fact that Fry's worms -- which he claims are the best parasites he's ever had -- make him smarter and healthier only make him all the more pathetic and funny.

There isn't a single joke that falls flat in the show -- from the episode's title, Parasites Lost, to the name of the space highway (Square Route of 66) to the fact that Fry has an internal elevator that goes from the brain to the ballroom. We would still like to see more interesting characters outside of the Planet Express Crew, as Futurama has yet to introduce memorable neighborhood characters such as Flanders, Apu and the Comic Book Store guy. Fry and Bender are the two halves of Homer, and Leela is still an ass-kicking version of Marge. But it's hard to complain about underused characters when the primary cast is used so brilliantly. Futurama needs a better time slot, but Fox seems intent on keeping its head where the worms are.
