Hip Clip
Review

This new device lets you carry your Game Boy with you anywhere you go.
Clip and go -- it's that easy!
Clipping things to your belt has become more and more popular as things like cell phones, palm pilots and pagers become necessity. Well, the Game Boy is also a necessity to many folks, and the Hip Clip is built specially for them. The device simply clips onto your belt, and then the Game Boy Color slides right into the holster and locks into place. And then you can walk around with the GBC securely fastened to your belt.

However, we're not talking major cool factor here. Having a Game Boy Color strapped to your waist is likely to inspire not a little bit of mockery from those who know you a bit better. Our initial experiments elicited snickers and rolling eyes. The most common phrase we heard was "Whatever, game dork. You're such a freak." This, however, is the price you must pay to be a truly dedicated game fanatic.

Public acceptance aside, the Hip Clip works marvelously. Its well-constructed design locks the GBC in securely, and a small lever releases it for instant play. Snapping it back in is, well, a snap. And, surprisingly, it feels quite secure -- we had little worry that it might suddenly fling off our side and crash to the ground. The part that clips to your belt even rotates, so the Game Boy Color can be carried straight up and down or sideways. The only complaint we have with the device is that you have to remove any power packs from the back of the GBC in order to clip it into place -- but that's hardly a major concern. Bottom Line: It performs its job fantastically -- it's a great way to clip a Game Boy Color to your belt, if you really want to do something like that. For public acceptance, however, we suggest wearing a long coat or sweater.
