National Book Festival and Reading
Laura Bush hosted the National Book Fesitval on September 8 to highlight the importance of reading and libraries in the U.S. To coincide with this event, Mrs. Bush established the Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries which she created to enhance the collections of school libraries across the country.

Education Initiatives
Mrs. Bush's education initiatives include recruiting more people to join the teaching profession and helping to ensure children start school ready to read and learn.
