President Bush to Nominate Hull to be Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Yemen

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate Edmund James Hull to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Republic of Yemen.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, he has been serving as the Principle Deputy Coordinator for Counter-terrorism since 1999 and has been a full participant in the interagency Counter-Terrorism Security Group (CSG).  As part of the CSG, he traveled to Pakistan, India and Russia among other countries to coordinate U.S. counter-terrorism efforts with those countries.  Hull served as the Director for UN Peacekeeping Operations in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs from 1996 to 1999.  From 1993 to 1996, he held the Deputy Chief of Mission post in Cairo.  He has held various posts both in Washington, D.C. and abroad, including Director for Near Eastern Affairs at the National Security Council, and Director of the Office of Iran and Iraq Affairs at the Department of State.  He is the recipient of various awards including the Baker-Wilkins Award for Excellence in the Direction and Management of Oversees Missions in 1995. Mr. Hull is a graduate of Princeton University.
