Introducing the new 667 MHz Titanium PowerBook G4.

Titanium Titanium
The PowerBook G4 is encased in titanium, the exceptionally strong and exceptionally light metal used to manufacture supersonic aircraft engines.

Communications Icons Ready to network
An AirPort Card is now installed as a standard feature in the 667MHz PowerBook G4 (order it as an option for the 550MHz model). Gigabit Ethernet is now built-in, a first for portable computers. Additional built-in communications features include an infrared port and a 56K V.90 modem. And since Mac OS X is a multihoming operating system, your PowerBook G4 can sense and adjust to different network types available at different locations — automatically.

DVD
DVD movies to go
Why watch movies anywhere else? The PowerBook G4 comes with a slot-loading DVD-ROM drive for playback of DVD-Video and DVD-ROM discs and a wide-screen ideal for letterbox format movies. Naturally, it plays your music CDs as well.

5 hours of power. Leading the charge
A 55-watt-hour lithium-ion battery with integrated charge indicator LEDs provides 5 hours of battery life.*

FireWire and USB Expansion is built right
The PowerBook G4 features FireWire for connecting external hard drives and DV cameras, and USB for connecting graphics tablets, digital cameras and other items in your digital toolkit.

New power adapter
New square-shaped power adapter
The PowerBook G4 comes with a new square-shaped power adapter designed to fit in the palm of your hand. The new adapter has built-in hooks that let you wrap the DC cord for neater storage. The AC cord lets you connect your PowerBook to an outlet up to 12 feet away, and you can also remove the cord and use the included AC plug to connect the adapter directly into the wall. Colored status LED lights show charging status. An amber ring indicates that your battery is recharging, while a green ring tells you that you have a full charge.

We’ve kept the sleek exterior as stunning as ever, but on the inside it’s a whole new architecture: faster PowerPC G4 processors, powerful new graphics capabilities, and the world’s most advanced operating system combine to deliver off-the-charts performance. (And by the way, you can now burn your own music CDs, too, if you like.)

The new Titanium PowerBook G4 has all the subtle refinements and esthetic touches that made it the most coveted full-featured notebook computer on the planet: 1-inch thick, 5.3 pounds, slot-loading DVD (now complemented with a build-to-order CD-RW drive), 5-hour battery, AirPort, 15.2-inch megawide screen, and pure-grade titanium body. But the resemblance ends there. Because the PowerBook G4 has been turbocharged — extensively re-engineered — to deliver a tremendous performance boost. And for good measure, we’ve also significantly enhanced its wired and wireless networking capabilities.

G4 Processor New high-performance architecture
Inside every new PowerBook G4 is your choice of a screamingly fast 550MHz or 667MHz PowerPC G4 processor with Velocity Engine, with 256K of on-chip level 2 cache running at the same speed as the processor. The cache adds high-speed, short-term memory that boosts system performance by providing quick access to data and instructions en route to the processor—it adds up to wicked-fast performance. And to ratchet up performance even further, we’ve increased the system bus speed to 133MHz in the 667MHz model to provide superior bandwidth between RAM and processor.

ATI RADEON Graphics The PowerBook G4 now ships with an ATI Mobility RADEON graphics accelerator and 16MB of DDR video memory. With its advanced AGP 4X architecture and internal graphics engine running at 166MHz, the ATI Mobility RADEON renders 3D effects faster than ever before. And in addition to enabling full-frame-rate DVD video playback, the Mobility RADEON accelerator also speeds up visual effects like bump mapping, environment mapping and 3D textures, making the PowerBook G4 a dream machine for creative professionals and serious gamers.

In the PC world, you’d be lucky to get this much raw power in a desktop system. That’s because speed expressed as megahertz is not an accurate yardstick of overall system performance. If you’re interested in rating the relative performance of Macs and PCs, watch a clear, concise explanation of the megahertz myth — and some straight talk on what the numbers really mean. In fact, the PowerBook G4 blows past 1.13GHz Pentium III-based notebook systems in a series of Adobe Photoshop tests.**

Optional CD-RW drive Slot-loading DVD-ROM or CD-RW drive
The PowerBook G4’s slot-loading DVD-ROM plays CD-ROM, audio CD, DVD video, DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM discs. Want to burn your own music CDs? That’s easy: Have the Apple Store deliver a built-to-order PowerBook G4 with a slot-loading CD-RW drive.

PowerBook G4 Screen Size Megawide Screen
Do your best work ever in millions of colors on a stunning 15.2-inch (measured diagonally) widescreen format display — and enjoy the benefit of more space on-screen for tools, palettes, browsers and spreadsheets. Naturally, you can make movies of your own with the included iMovie software, or get Apple’s Final Cut Pro for more advanced video editing, compositing and special effects. Want to present your ideas on a VGA monitor, large-screen TV or projection system? The PowerBook G4 has built-in video output capabilities that let you do just that.

An easy gig
The PowerBook G4 comes with 128MB of RAM in the 550MHz model and 256MB of RAM in the 667MHz model. And it’s expandable to 1 gigabyte of RAM — twice the capacity of other full-featured portables on the market. This lets you run several RAM-hungry applications simultaneously, or to store an entire graphics project in main memory for fast image manipulations. Take advantage of this limited time promotion and double the memory in a new PowerBook G4.

Hard disk The fastest drive ever
The PowerBook G4’s hard disk uses the high-speed Ultra ATA/66 interface, which enables video professionals to quickly transfer large video files in real time directly from a DV camcorder. Two 4200rpm drives with 20GB and 30GB storage capacities are available in standard PowerBook configurations. Plus, you can get a 5400rpm drive — our fastest ever drive in a PowerBook — with a mind-boggling 48GB capacity (ample for three hours of broadcast-quality digital video) built-to-order from the Apple Store.

* Battery life depeneds on configuration and use.
** Based on a suite of performance tests using Adobe Photoshop 6.0.

Mac OS X version v10.1 and Mac OS 9.2.1
The world’s most advanced operating system
The PowerBook G4 comes pre-installed with Mac OS X v10.1, the operating system that combines the power and stability of UNIX with the genius of Macintosh. Besides giving you the benefit of pre-emptive multitasking, protected memory and standards-based networking, Mac OS X v10.1 comes loaded with tons of powerful yet easy-to-use applications like iMovie, iTunes, iTools and Mail.

iTunes icon Listen to this
You can use your PowerBook G4 to listen to your favorite hits — in stereo sound — using iTunes to import and manage your digital music collection. And you can burn your own CDs with a built-to-order CD-RW drive.

Image capture Image Capture
The Mac OS X Image Capture application supports today’s most popular digital cameras — like Canon (Digital Elph support is built in), Nikon, Kodak and others — right out of the box. Image Capture has built-in capabilities like a thumbnail browser that lets you select which images you’d like to download to your PowerBook — or add to a web page. Never has working with your digital images been this easy, or this much fun.

Mac OS X A flood of Mac OS X applications
Macintosh software developers are making sure all popular Mac applications run natively on Mac OS X. Right now there are hundreds of Mac OS X applications available, and more are in the works. But if you feel the need to go back a generation, it’s nice to know you can do it by simply selecting Mac OS 9.2.1 (which ships with Mac OS X) as your startup disk in System Preferences.
