Kings Seafood on Pine Avenue - try their more casual bar/café next door to the main restaurant.
The Library - on 4th around Redondo (?) is the best coffee house around LB
Le Jardin du Thé in the Marketplace at 2nd & PCH for a Parisian tea fix. Open for breakfast, lunch & dinner.
I second the rec for Babette's Feast, but Open Sesame wasn't as good as it used to be, based on my most recent lunch there. There's another great little Mediterranean place on the little street (Norse or Viking Way) that angles into Carson just east of Lakewood Blvd. Don't know the name, but it's even better than Open Sesame.
