Message: | This is an awesome idea. I love a challenge. I have never heard anyone refer to the "south valley" - San Fernando Valley? Along Ventura? Anyway, defining the Westside as spanning down town west to the ocean: Best deals on the planet - happy hour/late night menu at McCormick & Schmicks (downtown, check on Beverly Hills location) lobster taquitos, seafood stir fry, major gourmet cheeseburger ALL UNDER $5.00 Farmers' Market at 3rd and Fairfax is a great idea for variety - the Gumbo Pot is outrageously good cajun. The Pantry - breakfast that will fill you for three fourths of the day, stretches the budget a bit for dinner but you get to eat steaks, chops, stews, very hearty with incredible crispy pan fried potatoes, house made cole slaw, crudites and good sourdough. Also open 24/7. Grand Central Market - very cheap but occasionally scary (chicarrones tortas and tongue tacos, etc.) Duke's - A little funky, communal tables, rock 'n roll waiters but high quality Americna food and the best pancakes in LA Barney's Beanery - Greasy spoon food but some tasty stuff and a gret variety Yuca's - tiny shack in the parking lot of a liquor store on Hillhurst that has the best burritos, reminds me of La Super Rica in Santa Barbara but even more bare bones Eat a Pita - Fairfax north of Canter's - good falaafel, grilled chicken, shwarma, hummus, tabouli, etc. outdoor patio under gazebo with fountain, candles.
