I spent much of my youth at my grandparent's house in Gloucester County VA on the Chesapeake Bay (I'm from coastal NC myself) and have had more than the usual amount of oysters in my life. I would say, honestly, that the only good oysters I've had here (albeit not many) actually have been at McCormick & Schmidststssttss (or however it's spelled) in Beverly Hills which has an AMAZINGLY CHEAP happy hour FYI. Even though it's a chain, the selection was good. IMPORTANT NOTE!! Good oysters (I prefer the brinier east coast varieties) are not in season. Wait until late fall/winter and you'll have the cream of the crop.
