Message: | I had seen a write up on the Unocal Speedway(?) mini mart at the corner of Pico and Barrington in the LA Times. Tried it today for two sandwiches to go. One chicken breast and one burger. Both terrific. The roll is kind of a cross between a hamburger bun and a sourdough roll, firm without being too hard. The chicken had some bitter greens, grilled onions and red peppers. The hamburger was similarly dressed. Ordered the burger medium rare, perfectly cooked, excellent, juicy and tasteful ground beef. As good a burger has I have had on the westside. The potato salad that I ordered with the chicken breast was like very good homemade with red potatoes with the skin on. Tried the french fries with the burger. They were nice and hot, but I would get the potato salad with the burger next time. Now, there were people actually sitting inside and eating at a couple of very small tables, but unless your idea of ambience is typical gas station mini mart chic, I recommend you get it to go. Each sandwich was about $6. But worth the price IMO. |
