We have eaten there a couple times when the wait at Sawtelle Kitchen was too long - if I remember correctly, it's Northern Italian(?) cuisine and it was pretty good. I will eat just about anything, but my wife, who is Japanese and extremely fussy about food (she can tell the difference between different types of nori on Sushi!)enjoyed it as well. If you like Japanese, try Yokohama Shokutsu (I think that's how its spelled) on Gateway/Barrington - we eat there from time to time. HAve you tried Suhi Mori yet....?
