Kid Rock, whose sidekick, Joe C., died last month after a lifelong battle with celiac disease, will lead a salute to artists who passed away in 2000 during next month's American Music Awards.

In addition to Joe C., the tribute is expected to honor Latin jazz great Tito Puente, Staple Singers founder Roebuck "Pops" Staples, TV/radio personality and jazz artist Steve Allen, eccentric rocker Screamin' Jay Hawkins, '50s pop singer Julie London, '60s pop singer Oliver, original Shirelles singer Doris Kenner-Jackson and jazz player Nat Adderley, among others, AMA spokesman Paul Shefrin said.

The tribute will include a montage of film clips with voiceovers and will not feature any live performances.

Kid Rock is up against Eminem and Marc Anthony for the Favorite Male Artist award, to be presented at the January 8 ceremony at Los Angeles's Shrine Auditorium.

AMA organizers also announced a string of new performers for the show — Marilyn Manson (performing "Disposable Teens"); Outkast ("Ms. Jackson"); Pink ("Most Girls"); Jessica Simpson ("I Wanna Love You Forever"); 3 Doors Down ("Loser"); and 12-year-old country singer Billy Gilman ("One Voice").

Previously announced performers include Toni Braxton, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Martina McBride, SHeDAISY and Britney Spears, who will co-host the show with LL Cool J.

Added presenters include Marc Anthony, Aaron Carter, Destiny's Child, Melissa Etheridge, Everlast, Mya, Nelly, Kelly Price, Queen Latifah, LeAnn Rimes, Run-D.M.C., Shaggy, Tyrese, Vertical Horizon and Vitamin C.

Among the previously announced presenters are 'NSync, 98°, Sisqó, Snoop Dogg, BBMak, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Creed, Ja Rule, Lil' Bow Wow, Brian McKnight, Mandy Moore, Mystikal and Brooks & Dunn.

The 28th annual AMAs will air live on ABC.
