Do not dispair! There is a great storefront Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant, Imperial Dragon, in the shopping center on the southwest corner of Bristol and Paularino. Their egg rolls are the best I have ever had, their vermicelli dishes are wonderful. My favorite, and I only ever get this when I am there, is menu number 18: Combination vermicelli. It is a kind of salad and delicious. It has BBQ pork, BBQ shrimp, egg roll, lettuce, cucumbers, cilantro with a fish sauce over a large bowl of vermicelli noodles. The textures are also amazing. There are by my count eight different "crunches" in every large bowl. It is served with free jasmine tea and a fortune cookie (a good one). Costs $5.50. Try it with a dollop of garlic hot sauce from the bottles on the tables. Some of their other stuff is pedestrian, though. Go before noon or after 1 PM or you will be in a line. They close at 3 PM but open in the evenings at 6PM. I go there every time I am in the area and am horribly and hideously adicted.
