I know what you're thinking. Angeli and Daimiano's?

I guess I must have been craving the warm and cozily soul satisfying effects of a red sauce of some kind this weekend...

Saturday we went to Angeli Caffe. I thought about it and realized that I live a few blocks down the street and hadn't been there in about 16 years! I begged my mom and her boyfriend to take me there for my 13th or 14th birthday. At that age, I loved anything Italian but was probably more drawn to their cute angel wing logo. Of course, all I remember was that I had my first wood stove pizza there - and I was in heaven - all was right with the world.

That pizza oven does make that room very warm and cozy - we sat in the slightly cooler second room. Evan Kleinman's Good Food voice softly played in the recesses of my mind. The restaurant was full but not maddeningly crowded. We ordered a sinful small casserole dish of fresh out of the oven molten smoked mozzarella with fresh tomatoes. It was so rich and simple and delicious. I spread a hunk of cheese on my bread and let out a moan. It was just the comfort my heart was looking for. That crazy blob of hot cheese made my day, perhaps even my week.

My boyfriend ordered the lasanga (I may have begged him to). It was also rich and *sigh*ful with its delicate layers of fresh veggies and bechamel and pasta and tomato sauce. My Linguini di Mare (sp?) was hot and spicy, just like me. The service was casual but friendly. And the price was so right.

And although plate after plate of tirimisu pased by, we were far to cheesed up to continue.

We stopped by Double Rainbow and I had a scoop of It's a Goody instead.

Sick!

Lastly, after a second night in a row desire for comfort food, we ordered Daimiano's. Forget everything I've said before. You all are right. It sucked. Everything was flavorless.

Oh well, ya win some, ya lose some!

I gotta get to the gym...

p.s. Anyone heard anything about an Angeli opening on Beverly? Just curious...
