I urge you to reject the U.S.-Microsoft agreement. It does very little to correct Microsoft's abuse of their monopoly power. I have not reviewed the entire agreement, but in particular this, in the definitions section at the end, is an obvious loophole:
"The software code that comprises a Windows Operating System Product shall be determined by Microsoft in its sole discretion."
Had this agreement been in place before Microsoft had mingled their operating system and browser code, this would have given them the right to "define" it as okay.
Please tell the federal government to go back to the drawing board, and come up with an agreement that actually puts some restraint on Microsoft. The company continues to arrogantly abuse its position in the marketplace. Just last week they locked non-Microsoft web browsers out of msn.com. In reply to complaints they claimed that they only locked out browsers that could not show the site correctly, a lie that was quickly revealed. Lacking remorse and any desire to change their ways on their own, it is obvious that they require much more serious remedies than the current settlement offers.
Thank you for listening.
