Not only can i not reach my site from the Singapore airport, i can't even get it through the Google cache! High tech censors...
But the weird news is that i can't find any about an attack on Dr A T Ariyaratne, the founder of Sarvodaya (biggest NGO on the island) a few days ago. I got an e-mail about it from a reliable source, but Google, Daypop and my usual news sources (see LankaLinks) have nothing. That's bad enough, but what's really sad is the lack of coverage of a multi-hundred thousand person meditation that took place Friday in Anuradhapura. Only mention i saw was by
Bob Morris (March 15). There's enough warblogs, how about some peaceblogs? I'll try to take my own advice and do more of that here.

Well, i've made it as far as Singapore. They have free hook-up for people who just need an Ethernet connection. But i couldn't get through to this site, or my ISP at all, directly. So i ssh'd to a different account i had, and from there i can web and ssh to my ISP Transbay. Isn't the net great?
Perhaps, or did you just create yourself a

The tickets have arrived, i'm getting ready to leave for Lanka in a few hours. The main attraction is to be present at the 10-day training in NonviolentCommunication in Kandy, but i'll hang out afterwards with family, and with other people i know and meet and see what i can learn and how i can contribute. Maybe they can help us understand how to not get dragged into terror, or war on it. I haven't read news reports on how today's huge peace meditation in Anuradhapura went, but i'll probably post a few final bits here today before i head out the door.
I'll write more from the island, but who knows when or where? For more see LankaLinks, or if you know nothing and want background:
Lonely Planet travel guide on Sri Lanka, Tigers of Lanka (by an Indian journalist, name escapes me)
If you're more into novels: Funny Boy (S. Selvadurai), When Memory Dies (A. Sivanandan)
Far from a complete picture (i'm more connected to the Tamil view of things), but i think these have helped me. As usual, if you have more, add it here.

Toshiyuki Masui's PalmWiki (yes, wiki on your PalmOs? handheld) has been updated again. The accompanying QPocket? is also available in English now. It lists all memos in reverse time order and lets you filter titles dynamically (like iTunes).
Maybe i'll try to get Dan's PalmWiki-to-HTML thing going while i'm in Sri Lanka...

The faith that one will do it (or do it again) can be enough.

The most common icon you see for RssFeeds is the white-on-orange XML, something like
From what i understand, the various RssStandards are all XML (XML is ExtensibleMarkupLanguage?, and includes a great many standards--it's extensible), but it seems odd to identify with XML as a whole. Sometimes you also see
Would it be helpful to have several icons so you know which standard you're getting? E.g.
I don't know. I don't think it's good for RSS advocacy to ask readers to track which standards their readers support. Maybe we need a campaign to . Would that make life easier for people who write RssReaders? (one, two, yes, please keep those hands up)
So, what would that take?
Comment here:
it's definitely true that the "xml" icon is misleading. i think it should state "rss", without any version numbers. while this babylonic chaos of different feeds is in fact a mess, i don't think it will be solved by such iconic support. we rather need a specification standard here. imho, i think rss 0.9x should be discontinued and rss 1.0 should be improved. what's going on in rss 0.93, for example, appears to me as things that could be done more flexible in an application processing the news feeds. a "unify rss" campaign would be a wonderful intervention. Rss Diversity Confusing

I finally "get" what Bill Seitz has done. His new weblog is the RecentChanges of his wiki (and it's FrontPage), with weblog comments interspersed. In his
old weblog he often had/has lists of pages new or updated in his wiki, so i'm beginning to see how his current arrangement made sense. Now wiki page updates are listed automatically (just one at a time). I was thinking of it as a RecentChanges page with an RSS feed from a weblog somewhere thrown in, but it's basically the other way around.
I'm not sure i'd want the full RecentChanges flowing in between my weblog bits here. Maybe a check box when editing? Two checkboxes -- name-only, name-and-text (insert the recently-changed page as a title and weblog entry?). Don't want to crowd the UI though. Hrm.
This is all OneWeblogPerWiki? thinking, which loses one of PikiePikie's untapped possibilities: multiple weblogs per wiki. All very interesting though.
stating the obvious interview with Bill Seitz on his wiki-weblog WebSeitz:FrontPage
"During 2001 there were 2 events which significantly increased my frustration with the disposability of blogbits. ... So I finally got working on putting up a wiki."
My eternal question: in the interest of unfrustrating disposition of blogbits, when will someone implement a wiki-weblog that lets weblog entries be regular wiki pages?
