Message: | A couple years ago I lived at the edge of the UC Irvine campus. The eating was not great, but my favorite place was the small Korean place (mostly take-out) in the shopping center with the supermarket (Albertsons?) at one corner of campus (not the larger Marketplace with the movie theaters etc). The "Mother's Market" health food stores also have sit-down restaurants which are okay. It's a chain but (so far as I know) a small local one. My real favorite place, maybe a bit far for lunch but certainly worth the trip, was a world-class taco stand called El Toro Bravo in Costa Mesa. I believe it is on 19th Street. The cross street might be Pomona. If you take the 55 to the end and take a right at Triangle Square (which has the Barnes and Noble), go down maybe a mile, and it's on your left after (I think) a Smart and Final. To my knowledge it has the best burrito in Southern California. It's in a small strip mall that also has a Mexican market. It's all take-out, no seating. Phil Agre
